Don’t really see partners mum since covid as lives a couple of hours away and she never travels . Previously it was small talk every few months . She came for Christmas lunch and this was my present . Aibu in thinking she is far shaming me ? When ever she sees her slightly overweight son she makes comments about how he looks pregnant . I used to run a lot don’t now .

Buy her an ice pack next year in the shape of a heart!

TheCreamCaker · 27/12/2021 19:30

The bitch. My (late) MIL was similar, used to say I was fat even when I weighed 9st! Now, I am obese but she's no longer here to see it

Ohmydaisy · 27/12/2021 19:36

If you'd got it for yourself, then it'd be ok. ( I personally am one step closer to being a mermaid 😬). But I'd be a bit sneeped too if someone had given it to me as a gift. Maybe she's just not very ' aware' of how it may make you feel? 😳

MaggieCassidy · 27/12/2021 19:37

Crikey! It’s a bad enough “joke@ but to put a sentiment like that on a cushion and then gift it to someone is all-out weird.

Although… I’m sure if you can find where she got it from, they probably do one with a tasteless joke about a monster-in-law you could get for her!

MillieMoses · 27/12/2021 19:38

Wow….just wow 😟

SoonbeSpringtime · 27/12/2021 19:39

I don't even know where to go to start on this.

What did you say @Welshlavalove when you opened it?

No way would I send it to the charity shop, who'd buy it?

DancyNancy · 27/12/2021 19:42

Wow....bitchy!!

Celestine70 · 27/12/2021 19:43

Nasty. I would have great satisfaction burning it.

dementor72 · 27/12/2021 19:45

Just say ‘so this is a re-gift then? , or are you intentionally being a cow ?

Motherof2Dragons · 27/12/2021 20:00

"Are you taking it to the charity shop or do I have to?"

HollyandIvyandAllThingsYule · 27/12/2021 20:19

Did someone actually say this was hilarious?? Confused Hmm

It’s not even mildly amusing. Just utterly naff.

MrsHGWells · 27/12/2021 20:25

Very unkind from a warped sense of humor, not funny, and personal attack.

Would say something to let giver know this went below the line, & unappreciated.

I think that poster meant the idea that anyone thought this was a suitable present is hilarious.
THEDEACON · 27/12/2021 20:26

What a bitch She would ha e got that thrown back at her and been on her own Christmas Day when I threw her out !

Salonikia · 27/12/2021 20:31

One Christmas I got a box set from my ex’s mother with a small wine and glass and the book ‘The birch’ from Jackie Collins. Now I think she bought it on a shopping trip with her friends wheee they all got it as a fun gift for other people. I reckon her reasoning was that I like books but considering the fact we didn’t get on that well, it sort of ruined my day. I think gifts like that are really inappropriate

whynotwhatknot · 27/12/2021 20:37

What did your dh say about it

Welshlavalove · 27/12/2021 20:45

Other half thought but weird but annoyed when I said I was upset

Shanda5 · 27/12/2021 20:51

Wow. So, so rude! Totally understand why you are annoyed!

JacquelineCarlyle · 27/12/2021 21:04

I don't get what was wrong with your gift @Salonikia ?

Plumbuddle · 27/12/2021 21:14

@JacquelineCarlyle

I don't get what was wrong with your gift *@Salonikia* ?
I think the title was not "the birch"...
Toadstool52 · 27/12/2021 21:17

@Eslteacher06

I'd save it for her birthday and regift it to her. Mehehe
EXACTLY! Grin
AdoraBell · 27/12/2021 21:46

YANBU it looks like something my passive aggressive late MIL would buy for me.

Hankunamatata · 27/12/2021 21:49

Its weird but would make me laugh but my mil has same humour and same waistline lol

worriedatthemoment · 27/12/2021 22:21

Bit harsh if you don't share same sense of humour etc

Happymum12345 · 27/12/2021 22:22

That’s awful. Absolutely awful.
