to ask how much wine you’d buy in this situation

NB - this is a LIGHTHEARTED thread

DH went to do the Christmas food shop today. I told him what I needed for the pudding and said ‘can you get a fair bit of wine as I want a drink tonight, tomorrow and we need for Christmas Day’.

On CD we’re having PIL. So 4 adults. FIL will have one glass of bubbles. MIL, DH and I all drink but not to excess.

I like a drink but don’t drink masses or that but I do like it and DH drinks rarely.

Given this information how much sparkling wine would you buy?

As reminder sparkling wine for:

Me tonight
Me tomorrow
4 adults on CD

Once I’ve had a few answers I’ll divulge how many DH bought.

I'd get go for six to be safe.

gobbynorthernbird · 23/12/2021 19:13

My answer would be 'lots'. Is your DH still alive?

MollyVolley · 23/12/2021 19:14

I say 6 as well!

PotteringAlong · 23/12/2021 19:14

Minimum of 6 bottles. I would have probably gone 8 OR 6 bottles and a bottle of nice champagne as a Christmas Day drink.

Sew3stitch · 23/12/2021 19:14

Minimum 5 so I would probably buy 6.

TheHoptimist · 23/12/2021 19:15

4 bottles fizz
2 white wine
2 red wine

Palavah · 23/12/2021 19:15

Assuming the type of wine isn't relevant, I'd probably buy 6-8 bottles, as I don't want to have to run to the supermarket again on 26/27/28

Merryoldgoat · 23/12/2021 19:16

@Nix2020

I’m wondering if you’re my best friend who I had this conversation with and said ‘minimum 6’ without hesitation.

@gobbynorthernbird

He is thriving and I’m drinking Prosecco. But I’m on bottle of how many? That’s the question…

I would’ve asked you to specify how many bottles “a fair bit” is

DrWankincense · 23/12/2021 19:16

At least 6 🍾

superram · 23/12/2021 19:16

10 one for you x2 days. One each Christmas Day, then spares, just in case!

FatCatSkinnyRat · 23/12/2021 19:16

I plan half a bottle per person - evens out with those that have one glass and those who go on the lash.
So, two bottles for xmas. One bottle for you over 2 nights.

Three bottles

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 23/12/2021 19:17

1 for tonight, 1 for tomorrow, 4 for CD. 2 spare.

friedeggandsauce · 23/12/2021 19:17

I'd go 8- it won't go off 🤷🏼‍♀️

Purplemoon54 · 23/12/2021 19:17

8

midlifecrash · 23/12/2021 19:17

Eight

zebrapig · 23/12/2021 19:17

I'd say 6, maybe a bottle of fizz on top.

Houseonahill · 23/12/2021 19:17

Yeah probably 6, maybe 8 so I have spare for later in the week

Winniemarysarah · 23/12/2021 19:17

@PotteringAlong

Minimum of 6 bottles. I would have probably gone 8 OR 6 bottles and a bottle of nice champagne as a Christmas Day drink.
I’d have said a minimum of 8. It’s Xmas day and people tend to get carried away.
gobbynorthernbird · 23/12/2021 19:17

@Merryoldgoat is someone going to have to go shopping tomorrow?

PickAChew · 23/12/2021 19:18

I'd buy a case of 6 and use any left at new year.

Shoxfordian · 23/12/2021 19:18

I’d say 12 at least
Plus a few extra

mynameiscalypso · 23/12/2021 19:18

I'd probably get 12 as it's always worth having extra and it will get drunk at some point / you can always take it when you go to someone's house.

Quickchangeartiste · 23/12/2021 19:18

As it’s sparkling it needs to be drunk on the day as it were,

So in this house that would be minimum 4 bottles but more likely 6.

But my stomach is a bit 🤢at all that fizz. Give me some red 😄

Merryoldgoat · 23/12/2021 19:18

I LOVE YOU ALL!

Three. He bought THREE bottles of Prosecco.

I’d have got 8 as it will last.

We are not short of money. He is not in ANY WAY tight. He just has a strange blind spot with booze.

I’ll go to coop tomorrow and buy a few more, no biggie.

But it’s like he’s forgotten who he’s married to!
