to ask how much wine you’d buy in this situation

NB - this is a LIGHTHEARTED thread

DH went to do the Christmas food shop today. I told him what I needed for the pudding and said ‘can you get a fair bit of wine as I want a drink tonight, tomorrow and we need for Christmas Day’.

On CD we’re having PIL. So 4 adults. FIL will have one glass of bubbles. MIL, DH and I all drink but not to excess.

I like a drink but don’t drink masses or that but I do like it and DH drinks rarely.

Given this information how much sparkling wine would you buy?

As reminder sparkling wine for:

Me tonight
Me tomorrow
4 adults on CD

Once I’ve had a few answers I’ll divulge how many DH bought.

Thanks @Merryoldgoat your thread reminded me of MNet in the days of yore. Grin

Merryoldgoat · 23/12/2021 20:23

I'd have got 8. I hope your dh has learned his lesson!

Suzi888 · 23/12/2021 20:24

6-8 probably ten to be sure. Grin

Spottyspotladybird · 23/12/2021 20:24

Between 6-8 definitely. It’s Christmas!

RosesAndHellebores · 23/12/2021 20:24

He's buying for the animals in the manger not the wise men and shepherd's!

Merryoldgoat · 23/12/2021 20:24

What is cremant? Bugger - sounds good even though I know nowt.

I did the Christmas booze shop last night, it’s separate to the food shop as I need to take the extra strong bags. My first comment to the lovely young man at the checkout was ‘please don’t judge me on this…’

10 bottles minimum, a good selection of red and white, some fizz, and maybe a bottle of gin thrown in. It’s Christmas!

Covidclaire · 23/12/2021 20:26

I’d just rather have too much and have to store it than be short on Christmas Day

Absolutely! It’s not going to go off, is it.

Plus you need to buy for worse case scenario at the moment, so always need 10 days supply. Can’t exactly add wine to your emergency isolation shopping that your neighbour has kindly offered to pick up for you.

I don't even drink wine. Nor does anyone in our family. I still bought three! 🤣

ElephantOfRisk · 23/12/2021 20:35

10-12 I think, I'm not a huge drinker but I wouldn't want to run out.

Dh and I and one of adult DSs will drink wine over christmas day and boxing day. DS not that much, just a couple glasses of fizz and then he'll move on to beer or cider. I have 7 bottles of fizz (had 8 but needed a last minute gift!) 3 white and 3 red. Leftovers will be used for Hogmanay and supplemented if required.

RoyalFamilyFan · 23/12/2021 20:35

Blimey you lot are alcoholics. I would have bought 3 or maximum 4.

DedafalalalalalusBloom · 23/12/2021 20:36

People always drink more than you think in my experience. I also have a terror of under catering. I've got 12 bottles Prosecco, 6 Riesling, 3 red, 1 vodka, 1 Rum plus mixers and soft drinks. It's now down to just me and DH as we're isolating but that was to cover 5 people for 2 days ( plus whatever they would bring.)

Cremant is lovely. I have some and some prosecco and some cava.

@SockFluffInTheBath

Based on you saying:

I would also have bought 3. You say none of you drink a lot so 2 glasses each sitting? That’s a bottle to cover you tonight snd tomorrow, and 2 for Christmas day. If you’re doing a bottle a night by yourself then you’re not drinking ‘not a lot’.

This...
ElephantOfRisk · 23/12/2021 20:39

I also have a fully stocked drinks cabinet and crates of beer and cider in the garage as well as gifts for folk under tree. It was DHs birthday recently so he is sporting 10 bottles of malt :)

I think we've all bought bottles of spirits for each other too.

Honestly none of us are big drinkers but I like to have plenty in.

DH just had a moments panic in thinking he hasn't bought any beer for himself but i said Santa and our boys have him sorted.

DebbieHarrysCheekbones · 23/12/2021 20:43

I’d have said at least 10
It’s Christmas after all.

How your marriage has survived up to this point is frankly beyond me and yes you should open another bottle now Wink

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 23/12/2021 20:44

The LTB goes without saying.

I'm with you, OP. I'm a light drinker most of the time - 2 glasses of wine a week usually but, at Christmas, we'll be cracking open the champagne at 10. AM, that is 😀

MauveMavis · 23/12/2021 20:44

Oh dear.

I don't drink much and even I'd have bought six bottles...

Christmas here is small (two people) and there will be at least two bottles of fizz and lots of white/ red available (I have a good stash). Also tonnes of spirits as people buy me it faster than I drink it.

DrCoconut · 23/12/2021 20:44

I'd buy 2 bottles. Or maybe 3 if you think you may need more. Depends on how much you drink really.
