to ask how much wine you’d buy in this situation

NB - this is a LIGHTHEARTED thread

DH went to do the Christmas food shop today. I told him what I needed for the pudding and said ‘can you get a fair bit of wine as I want a drink tonight, tomorrow and we need for Christmas Day’.

On CD we’re having PIL. So 4 adults. FIL will have one glass of bubbles. MIL, DH and I all drink but not to excess.

I like a drink but don’t drink masses or that but I do like it and DH drinks rarely.

Given this information how much sparkling wine would you buy?

As reminder sparkling wine for:

Me tonight
Me tomorrow
4 adults on CD

Once I’ve had a few answers I’ll divulge how many DH bought.

I've bought ten bottles of wine plus port, sherry and multiple bottles spirits and liqueurs. I'm not in the country over Christmas Blush

aneres · 23/12/2021 19:56

@superram

10 one for you x2 days. One each Christmas Day, then spares, just in case!
I would say exactly the same.
AngelonTopoftheTree · 23/12/2021 19:58

Min 6, but probably 12 🥂 enjoy your bubbles OP!
From the house that has 30 plus bottles, thanks to Tesco special offers - we're preparing for the minimum pricing they're bringing in here in Ireland in January. Xmas Sad

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 23/12/2021 19:59

Three??? Sheesh, minimum 6, but I have a dozen in. Plus red and white. I expect it to last well in to the new year, but I would never risk running low on fizz at Christmas.

Bushkin · 23/12/2021 20:00

All fizz? I’d probably go for 5 bottles then round up to 6 to be on safe side

Merryoldgoat · 23/12/2021 20:00

Ooooh! Port! I’ll grab a bottle tomorrow when I too up the bubbles

afrikat · 23/12/2021 20:01

I'd go at least 8. Maybe 10 to be safe..

Daisy829 · 23/12/2021 20:02

I thought 12. Glad I’m not the only one who said that!

Bushkin · 23/12/2021 20:02

Just RTFT, three!!!! I’ve got three plus a bottle of red and a bottle of port and a bottle of baileys just for DH & I

Coronado2 · 23/12/2021 20:05

You've made me doubt whether I have enough now op. I have three bottles of prose6, three bottles of champagne. I'll probably drink a bottle tomorrow, then at least a bottle between dsis and I Christmas day. Concerned the rest won't be enough between DH, bil, sil and I boxing day. We do have a lot of gin though.

Coronado2 · 23/12/2021 20:07

Oh and I've got a bucks fizz for Christmas Day breakfast Xmas Grin

ThisTooShallPassOneDay · 23/12/2021 20:08

Yeah 8-10 for sure!

Merryoldgoat · 23/12/2021 20:08

All kidding aside, I have a massive fear of under catering - my wedding was an utter joke - we had to give away wine as people left the reception as we bought so much.

I’d just rather have too much and have to store it than be short on Christmas Day.

Mushrooms0up · 23/12/2021 20:09

minimum 6, but I’d probably get 8 - 10 as I’d hate to run out when hosting.

icelollycraving · 23/12/2021 20:10

Regular bottles? 8 at least. Magnums? 7 Grin

1forAll74 · 23/12/2021 20:12

Oh dear, I have only bought one bottle of prosecco, from Asda, and ordered a bottle of Baileys, but they sent a sub , and sent a cheapo type of Baileys. I am an oldie and live alone, so don't drink that much, although I do like some craft beers, so have got some bottles left over from another shop.

But going to my Sons house on Christmas day, he lives in the same village as me. and he said he had bought some champagne and gin for me, so guess I will have to sup that !!

Redcrayons · 23/12/2021 20:13

We’ve got a million extra bank holidays, best make it 12, OP

yikesanotherbooboo · 23/12/2021 20:14

6 bottles will be enough

Merryoldgoat · 23/12/2021 20:14

Tesco Whoosh is delivering 4 more bottles, a slab of Ferrero Rocher and some OJ as Buck’s Fizz was mentioned upthread and I realised it was a necessity 👍🏽

L125 · 23/12/2021 20:14

3?? It's wine, not wise men. At least 6 (probably 12).

StarryNightSparkles · 23/12/2021 20:14

Between 6 and 10 bottles.

FangsForTheMemory · 23/12/2021 20:16

I've had said 6 minimum or 4 white and 4 red, to be on the safe side. It's not as if you won't use it up, is it?

aneres · 23/12/2021 20:17

I would also expect that people brought a bottle so 10 plus whatever they bring Grin

Scrooge89 · 23/12/2021 20:20

I’d say 8 wine 2 fizz

Palavah · 23/12/2021 20:21

Also would go for cava or cremant rather than prosecco!
