Yes!

“Expect restrictions” is saying nothin at all!

Mumoblue · 22/12/2021 16:57

YANBU. Seems like they want to make announcements after Christmas for popularity reasons. Just tell us now!
I’m perfectly content to follow new rules, but I’d like to know what they are in advance!

Waxonwaxoff0 · 22/12/2021 16:58

YANBU. We go away on the 27th, I'd rather know now if I can't go.

Hellocatshome · 22/12/2021 16:59

My sons main present is a training day with an Olympic Athlete to be held on the 28th, I could really do with knowing if that is able to go ahead before Santa delivers it on the 25th!

Goldenbear · 22/12/2021 16:59

Yes, just tell us, it is so annoying not being able plan!

alibongo5 · 22/12/2021 16:59

I have a "big" birthday on 29th. It would be nice to know what will be open/what I'll be able to do! Usual lack of decision making by this shower!

sadpapercourtesan · 22/12/2021 17:00

Agreed. I have a 19yo with ASD who needs to know whether he'll be going back to university. I have an 81yo dad with Alzheimers staying with me who needs to know if things are going to change again. It's cast a proper cloud over Christmas, not knowing Sad

They dont have the data yet. Its not ideal, but surely better than having unnecessary restrictions imposed upon us?
Florin · 22/12/2021 17:02

It’s driving us mad. We have a beautiful £150 piece of beef due to come out of the freezer for a family get together on the 28th, do we get it out on the 25th to defrost or not!

Whywonttheyletmeusemyusername · 22/12/2021 17:02

Who said there were restrictions coming in from the 26th? Have I missed a Boris speech ?

Goldenbear · 22/12/2021 17:02

Popularity reasons is ironic though as everyone I know is hugely pissed off about the unknown! Some people might decide not to travel by train etc. If they think everyone has to head back ASAP for restrictions put in place on the 27th!

MmeSosostris · 22/12/2021 17:02

@Hellocatshome

What a fantastic present

TwoBigNoisyBoys · 22/12/2021 17:02

Yanbu. My son’s main present is a trip to London to see Dear Evan Hansen in early January 😕 would like to know if there will be any restrictions imposed so I can manage expectations when he opens it Christmas morning!

Hemingwayscatz · 22/12/2021 17:03

Nobody has stopped travelling so far and Scotland are usually firmer so I’d imagine they’re not going to restrict movement. If anything, it will be a rule of six or something equally stupid again like Wales.

Someone on another thread said the government are emotionally abusing us all and I totally agree. It’s unfair leaving everyone in the lurch like this.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 22/12/2021 17:05

In his speech he said no restrictions before Christmas but can't rule them out for after Christmas.
Grimchmas · 22/12/2021 17:06

Nobody else just think they're having to wait for data? Omnicron is still so new and so little is known about it. A more cautious government might know they're going for a lockdown on 26th but ours is most likely trying their hardest to put that off and avoid it if at all possible.

AuntieStella · 22/12/2021 17:13

I'm expecting there will be announcements any time from now onwards, bringing English restrictions closer to what is already announced for Scotland and Wales. The huge rises in London case numbers, and the creeping but into other regions make it inevitable.

And yes, I think it's wrong to leave people dangling. Because if you want to plan to salvge you priorities and make the best of the rest, then knowing what time is available will help.

I'm not saying 'bring it on' in any sense of welcoming the station. I'd just like to be able to make the best of a bad job

Foolsrule · 22/12/2021 17:13

It’s ridiculous. Just look at the figures on the BBC news site this morning. More cases than any other European country, the WHO claiming Armageddon is coming and the UK carries on, merrily doing nothing (and reduces isolation times 🙄). Meanwhile, our European counterparts are taking action because as we saw in 2020, you need to act quickly…

Mumoblue · 22/12/2021 17:14

Do I think they’re waiting for data? Mmm, not particularly. It’d a be a pretty big coincidence that the data will be ready right after Christmas. Who’s bringing it, Santa? Wink I’m not saying it’s impossible, but I think it’s more likely they’re just waiting for Christmas Day to pass.

DolphinFC · 22/12/2021 17:15

Is that sarcasm?

Missing the point, but what an awesome present!
arethereanyleftatall · 22/12/2021 17:16

As in im missing the point, not you.

Doidontimmm · 22/12/2021 17:16

Why wouldn’t they be able to make the train?

AuntieStella · 22/12/2021 17:16

ours is most likely trying their hardest to put that off and avoid it if at all possible

Agree - all Tory instincts are keep the ecomony going.

But after the Christmas binge, it's a fairly quiet time for hospitality and retail, so I can see why they want to hold off for as long as possible to hit that quieter time.

Chunkymonkey13 · 22/12/2021 17:16

It would nice if they said:

If the daily cases go over x amount then this will be the restrictions.

Then at least we all know what the crack is?!
