@Hellocatshome. Another one who thinks that's an amazing present, Can you say what sport it is without it being outing?

fiftiesmum · 22/12/2021 20:34

At last - someone I am in complete agreement with Xingming. Amongst the vaccinated this is turning into the heavy colds and flu we knew and hated twenty plus years ago with a couple of weeks of feeling rotten.
Hopefully those with underlying conditions can benefit from the newly available treatments.
The anti vaxxers - well they can get their treatment from Dr Facebook

If they go early they can only do "more" by waiting, we might be able to have fewer restrictions.

FWIW I don't think anything will change until after the bank holidays.

Hellocatshome · 22/12/2021 20:38

@drumandthebass it's for swimming and specifically my little swimmers favourite stroke, he will love it but if it gets cancelled be ausr of restrictions I'm going to have to do one major damage limitation. They have missed so much swimming since this shit show began.

jgw1 · 22/12/2021 20:39

@XingMing

Another person here to say that 100,000 cases are largely irrelevant. Very few, unless unvaxxed or with serious underlying health conditions, are going to be hospitalised and fewer still will end up in ITU.

That said there's a million-odd people feeling dreadfully poorly, for whom the best advice is ancient wisdom: go to bed, drink lots of water and juice, take aspirin and paracetamol according to the instructions on the packet, sleep as much as possible, eat a little when you feel able. Eat, read, sleep and watch TV, rinse and repeat. Mostly this variant doesn't seem to need medical intervention -- unless the person affected is already unwell with a serious condition.

Last time I checked aspirin should only be used for heart conditions as directed by a doctor.

Me....me...me....me.....struth!

coochyboochy · 22/12/2021 20:45

@Francienolan people obviously refer to rules they have the ability to break- eg household mixing etc. Are you that thick?

curlyLJ · 22/12/2021 20:48

Data now suggests that Omicron is milder with less chance of hospitalisation, so hopefully any further restrictions will bear this in mind and not be an over-reaction.

I am very sorry to have to tell you this but we are allowed to use sarcasm on the internet and generally people on MN do understand. Perhaps you are that thick?

@Hellocatshome

Thank you for replying. I really hope it goes ahead for you

Happy Christmas Xmas Smile

worriedatthemoment · 22/12/2021 20:59

@Foolsrule except that isn't true for every country in europe there are a lot of them

worriedatthemoment · 22/12/2021 21:06

@RBKB no I would rather wait for the data than jump ahead
Some restrictions are pretty damaging as well , and when they do announce they won't say from now you can't do xyz they will likely give a date unless it goes the other way and things begin to look bad
But people will be able to get back home and things

Tilltheend99 · 22/12/2021 21:07

Yes.

I have no problem with restrictions if they are needed but it is absolutely pathetic of them to dangle tit bits above our heads all the time and treat us all like idiots.

If they get on with it less people get infected and restrictions last less time. If they mess about playing party politics then we continue to get record numbers testing positive, staff shortages of emergency and key workers and when they finally put in restrictions they will last longer and be more damaging.

What annoys me is the constant headlines in the news - 90k cases today, 100k cases today etc Then very little mention of any other relevant information we need to see the full picture. i.e Hospital admissions, deaths, time spent in hospital, number of people with mild symptoms etc.
Kanfuzed123 · 22/12/2021 21:22

Do we think businesses are going to be closed again? Full lockdown?

Selfishly my first was 5 months in the first lockdown so we never got to go anywhere, I’ve just had my second and the thought of history repeating is anxiety inducing.

AgeingDoc · 22/12/2021 21:23

That's my concern too Tilltheend
Obviously restrictions will have economic effects and that does have to be considered, but so will huge numbers of the workforce self isolating.
My worry is that delaying restrictions risks the worst of both worlds - lots of new infections over the holiday period leading to major staff absences across all sectors in the New Year and longer restructions than might have been needed if done earlier.
It's not easy, and to be fair, I don't envy the government the decision, but there is a certain sense of inevitability about it all.

colette1970 · 22/12/2021 21:26

Boris doesn’t even follow his own rules and restrictions ,neither do his staff so I am not going to ,will do LFT before visiting parents etc but nope not going to listen to him , do as I say not do as I do comes to mind with them .

Alarmset · 22/12/2021 21:46

That's not true though, it means any peak takes longer to pass.

Early indications are that this is much less dangerous. The "harm" at the moment is not people being seriously ill, it's that people who are otherwise fit to work are having to isolate. If that can change,no additional restrictions will be necessary.

User762980 · 22/12/2021 22:20

Just said on the BBC news that not expecting any announcement for England before Christmas

lindyloo57 · 23/12/2021 17:36

I would of thought we would get a few days notice, if it happens at all.

Buddyboy · 23/12/2021 17:39
