we are going to a sporting event with sit down meal Monday, really like to know if it's still on

batmanladybird · 23/12/2021 20:34

@Hellocatshome

My sons main present is a training day with an Olympic Athlete to be held on the 28th, I could really do with knowing if that is able to go ahead before Santa delivers it on the 25th!
Wow. How amazing. Hoping and praying for you that it will go ahead 🙏🏻

@Beachbreak2411

Announcements will be before NYE. We will Go into lock down again 28th. For 2 weeks. Schools won’t go back until Feb half term
I do love when people say things like this like it's an absolute fact. 🤣. You should start your post with ... my guess is... . Or are you BJ in disguise?
wejammin · 23/12/2021 21:01

We're supposed to be going to the lake District on 28th until 2nd with my parents and sister. We're self catering and in separate accommodation so should be ok if the restrictions are on household mixing indoors, but if all the pubs/cinemas/museums etc are shut it will be a bit rubbish! I'd be quite happy doing beautiful walks and reading for 5 days, but my 3 primary aged children won't.

We really won't. At most we'll have some lesser version of the rules in Scotland. Maybe no events with more than 1000 people, that sort of thing.

firef1y · 23/12/2021 21:39

@bicyclesaredeathtraps
I'm also autistic and I get where you're coming from. I found the actual lockdown announcement March 2020 calmed me a lot as I knew where I stood. The week previous I was in almost constant meltdown waiting for the announcement.
Only trouble is lockdown took away the parts of life that are crucial for my mental health, namely the gyms and exercise. Plus I'm a huge rule follower and didn't know.that I could have someone out the house to provide "care and support". I lost a huge amount of social skills over the first few months. Once support bubbles were publicised I was much happier

Ostagazuzulum · 23/12/2021 22:15

My friends getting married on New Year's Eve. It's awful for them not knowing whether it'll happen. It was always going to be a risk booking it in winter but they just need to know one way or other. Plus guests need to know. We're travelling quite far and was going up couple of days before just for small break but don't want to travel and it get cancelled.

Toddlerteaplease · 23/12/2021 22:54

My sister is getting married on the 4th January. I don't think there will be more restrictions. But I wish they'd just get on with it.

Scaremongering nonsense, and without any basis….
Schools will definitely go back (I work in one). This variant is not that bad..symptoms are like a common cold IF you are vaccinated. If not…..whose fault is that?

Dibbydoos · 23/12/2021 23:45

@Waxonwaxoff0

YANBU. We go away on the 27th, I'd rather know now if I can't go.
Us too, we're visiting my 20yo daughter on the Isle of Man. First time since she moved. She has severe anxiety so I don't want to let her down esp since she couldn't get home for Christmas :(

This sounds like you're stating a fact? What is your source? I thought the government were still squabbling deciding what the best course of action should be...?

GlacindaTheTroll · 24/12/2021 00:05

I'm not even sure they're ready to start squabbling/deciding

It's about a week since we started seeing the big increases in case numbers, so how the hospitalisations that wave of cases will produce will be happing over the next days. That's what they're waiting for

And of course, the admissions figures on the main dashboard are usually 4 days older than the positive test numbers, and that lag matters - what is happening in hospitals thus weekend wintnshow n that dashboard until about next Wednesday. Some data sets have timelier info on admissions (pan-London one, for example)

It will happen. Even if we do get any restrictions it will just be a watered down version of the Scottish ones, which do allow weddings.

@Beachbreak2411 really?! Once this pandemic fizzles out it will be fascinating to explore the psyche of these scaremongers who are almost gleefully willing us to go back into lockdown.

isntitobvious · 24/12/2021 09:28

Havent't read the whole thread, but the op is bu. The strong hope is that no restrictions will be necessary, because the early signs are that Omicron will be mild enough for the NHS to cope. It may prove otherwise, but restrictions should not be announced until they are definitely going to be implemented.

malificent7 · 24/12/2021 09:29

Yanbu BUT why listen to THEM?

Yes exactly this. There has been a knee jerk reaction in Scotland and Wales, with restrictions being imposed with serious economic impacts, before the full facts about omicron are known. Boris and co have made the right call here, to wait until they have the necessary information before deciding on any restrictions.

"**Announcements will be before NYE. We will

November 2020: lockdown, but schools stayed open
January 2020: lockdown but schools were back 8th March, way before other restrictions were relaxed.

Why would the country have a two week lockdown in January but schools not return until mid February? Aside from the strange way this has been reported as if it is fact, this would make no sense.

Antiqueanniesmagiclanternshow · 24/12/2021 09:54

If this shower of shits say no seeing your family", will everyone be abiding by the rules do you think?

I have in the past but now?

JohnSmithDrive · 24/12/2021 10:00

@LondonLadyy

I was meant to be going to the ballet at the Royal Albert Hall on the 28th and they already mailed and cancelled the event, moving it to 2022.

Seems like they may know things we don’t…

All they know is that either they already have too many cases in the company to go ahead or they've chosen to cancel for their own reasons.

If any organisations like this "knew something", the press would also know.

eastegg · 24/12/2021 10:08

beachbreak2411 see you back here next week to see if you are right. I say we will definitely not go into lockdown, or indeed any form of heavy restrictions, on the 28th.

CovidforCrimbo · 26/12/2021 19:14

Any updates do we know?

nonotobvious · 27/12/2021 14:01

@CovidforCrimbo

Any updates do we know?
@CovidforCrimbo, you can get updates from the BBC news website or any other reliable news outlet. Suggest you look there for updates rather than Mumsnet. As of 13.56pm the latest BBC article is this one, but there will be updates throughout the day: www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-59798814.

The process is:

  1. Government gets a briefing on the latest statistics.
  2. Government and advisors consider the information.
  3. Government makes decision.
  4. Government announces decision.

Anything else you hear in the meantime is just speculation.

SpiderFluff · 27/12/2021 14:16

@nonotobvious does this all happen on one day?

Exhausteddog · 27/12/2021 14:21

@SpiderFluff
I very much doubt it. I think they need to vote through any restrictions
