To ask how you met your partner ?

I have a single friend who says she would like to meet someone nice, ( she's lovely, she deserves to), but all the men she meets online and / or on nights out make it plain they are just looking for sex.

I met my current boyfriend through a flatshare arrangement, ( it was a HMO). However, she is also a single parent to a two year old so wouldn't be able to meet a boyfriend in similar flat sharing circumstances to myself.

She can't meet anyone through work, ( she works in her aunty's buissiness, it is only her and her aunty there). She is also a single parent to a two year old so wouldn't be able to meet a boyfriend in similar flat sharing circumstances to myself.

So basically, how did you meet your partner ? I'm expecting there will be a lot of at work/ online/nights out but hopefully there may be something that will give idea's.

I met my husband at uni, which is no help. Following with interest because I have a friend in a very similar situation!

I tend to think just live your life, follow your interests, get out and about socially a lot, and you’ll naturally meet your sort of people, but that requires a lot of patience!

I met my husband at a bar. We originally met when we both drank there but only started talking when I started working there. He is honestly incredible.

Buytoomuchonebay · 17/12/2021 15:30

We ‘met’ on okcupid then met up outside my local Tesco
I’d almost given up on men-online dating can be pure dross
I’d been on the site on and off for about 3 years
I think you have to pay for okcupid now but not sure-at my time it was free

We met through Facebook. Had mutual friends. Married now 🙂

I met my boyfriend at my running club. I've also made absolutely LOADS of friends since I joined it three years ago. I'm 46 and I've never had this many good, genuine, lovely friends before in my life.

I met DH 20 years ago at a rave.

We bonded over our love of music and football.

Met my first DP through a flat share.
Second DP travelling in Asia.
Third and now DH, set up by his mother, who was a friend of mine from synagogue Blush

We both participated in the same online forum for a shared interest, then we met in person over a piece of music gear that it was too expensive to ship (the seller would ship to me, but not all the way to him.)

I ended my prolonged engagement, started dating DH, and married him six months later. That was 17 years ago.

MissConductUS · 17/12/2021 15:39

On match.com in the mid-1990s. It was so new it was free and there was no way to upload pictures, which was okay because no one had digital cameras. We're happily married for 24 years with two great kids in uni.

We were OLD trailblazers. Grin

In my local, through a mutual male friend. I was there with my mates, and he was there with the mutual friend.

CoconutQueen · 17/12/2021 15:40

On Tinder.

We are blissfully, heavenly happy

WillYouDoTheFandango · 17/12/2021 15:41

Met on Tinder. Many people are on there just for sex but IME it's pretty easy to tell who they are very quickly and let them know that's not what you're after.

I think online you really have to listen to your gut feel. If something seems a bit "off", you'll probably wish you hadn't ignored it later.

Peanut82 · 17/12/2021 15:41

We met online through Facebook. We had mutual friends but he lived in a different city. Fast forward 10 years and we're engaged, live together and have a 6 year old

LAgeDeRaisin · 17/12/2021 15:44

Met DH on Tinder 7 years ago

Bavarois · 17/12/2021 15:45

Tinder! We had previously worked in the same hospital but never spoken, but we recognised each other. We've been together 4 years and just got engaged Smile Online can work, you just have to be able to weed out the ones that don't work for you. I never found the ones that make it plain they just want sex to be a problem, it's the ones that pretend they want a relationship to trick you into sex that were the issue.
