To ask how you met your partner ?

I have a single friend who says she would like to meet someone nice, ( she's lovely, she deserves to), but all the men she meets online and / or on nights out make it plain they are just looking for sex.

I met my current boyfriend through a flatshare arrangement, ( it was a HMO). However, she is also a single parent to a two year old so wouldn't be able to meet a boyfriend in similar flat sharing circumstances to myself.

She can't meet anyone through work, ( she works in her aunty's buissiness, it is only her and her aunty there). She is also a single parent to a two year old so wouldn't be able to meet a boyfriend in similar flat sharing circumstances to myself.

So basically, how did you meet your partner ? I'm expecting there will be a lot of at work/ online/nights out but hopefully there may be something that will give idea's.

An AOL group chat for a writing and roleplaying group, so not much help there Grin though online hobby groups can be great ways to people -- I also met my lodger-friend and my kids met their longest friends from my being in online hobby spaces.

She's right that men on dating apps and on nights out only want sex. No chance of real relationships there clearly not true! Plus I think sometimes men go on these things because they are lonely, thinking they don't want something but then meet someone amazing and it just happens

Through mutual friends (DP worked with my best friends DH.)

Previous dated and had relationships with men found through a mixture of online, bars, public transport, social/sports clubs and through friends.

Oh myself and lots of people I know who have met through online dating actually have links to each other through friends and acquaintances though people in rl would never set them up.

@MissConductUS you and your partner were early OLD adopters but really it wasn't seen as a strange thing until around 2004/5 in my circles

On Facebook, we'd been at school together, danced at a disco when we were 13 and one day many years later he randomly added me and we started chatting.

My boyfriend before that (the one that got away 🙈) was handing out flyers for a club when I was a student. He snuck me a stamp for a free drink and we kissed on the dancefloor when he got there. sigh those were the days!

I met plenty of decent men online when I used guardian soulmates. Shame it doesn't exist anymore! I was coupled up just before Tinder existed but always wondered what it was like.

I met my exH at uni. What a waste...

I met my now DP through a mutual work friend. She set us up on a proper old-fashioned blind date! 3.5 years later, we're buying a house together and I have never been so happy in my whole life.

She's right that men on dating apps and on nights out only want sex. No chance of real relationships there.

She needs to join interest groups. Hiking or walking or group-fitness or classes, attend talks at bookshops, look on Meetup for events where people are gathering for Another Reason but will also talk. Form friendships first.

Have you literally read any of the answers on this thread Confused

Damn, I should probably ask my husband for a divorce. We've been faking a relationship for the last 7 years just to pretend that old works Wink
Hippychicken1 · 17/12/2021 21:19

He was a school friend of my house mate. I think things happen more online these days. That's where I'd be heading if things went wrong

notacooldad · 17/12/2021 21:44

I met DJH in a night club.
