Christmas bonuses-do you get one?

If you do get a Christmas bonus, what job do you do and how much do you get-enough to put in the pool you've always wanted or a gym membership like National Lampoon?Grin🎄 I've never had one as the NHS didn't value us. Well, unless a slightly shorter shift at Christmas counts. That 15 minutes made such a difference Hmm

I’m a TA so no bonus which I understand, public money and all that. But why does the civil service pay a bonus? Admittedly it isn’t what it was but you can still be put forward for a performance related bonus (as far as I know).

LadyJJ · 16/12/2021 21:14

NHS!
Strange £50 voucher that can only be spent in a peculiar mix of places I never go to (e.g Farmfoods, Planet Hollywood, The Shard).
But better than nothing.

mamaduckbone · 16/12/2021 21:14

Another teacher here so no. We've had biscuits in the staff room but paid for our own meal out.

PugInTheHouse · 16/12/2021 21:19

I work for the NHS so no bonus but I don't understand why anyone would complain about not getting one, as if we would want tax payers (me included) money going towards bonuses. Annual leave entitlement is very good, pension is one of the best. My team is amazing, all the top managers are very appreciative and supportive, our whole trust is great actually. I am very lucky.

It did make me laugh where a poster said we got paid for pretty much every hour though, that is one of the most ridiculous things I've heard. I am not complaining but it most definitely isn't true!

mouse26 · 16/12/2021 21:21

We got up to £35 per person for a Christmas lunch in place of the usual Christmas do, and Christmas eve off without having to use annual leave. No bonuses any other time of the year

itspartytime · 16/12/2021 21:26

I am self employed and was going to give myself a big bonus, but then my tax bill arrived . So can't do it . ( I do hate having to pay half of next years tax already when I haven't earned it yet !)

RainbowBabyForChristmasPlease · 16/12/2021 21:28

Fuck all

Senmumm2021 · 16/12/2021 21:32

I get £10 as an unpaid carer.

Tootsey11 · 16/12/2021 21:32

I'm a self employed cleaner, between all clients I usually get up to £180. I'm half way there already with a week to go.

stupiduser · 16/12/2021 21:36

We get a generous Christmas meal paid for and we have a staff gathering that is generous in the year. We sometimes get a bonus at Christmas. Last year because the company suffered in covid we got a lovely hamper instead. I don't know what we are getting this year. I also got a lovely bottle of champagne from the MD and our secret Santa was lovely, we all got nice presents

stupiduser · 16/12/2021 21:39

Oh and we got Christmas Eve off as a free holiday day for the company too

Twospaniels · 16/12/2021 21:40

I’m an NHS worker, and we get a whole lot of nothing ☹️ Not even paid in line with inflation.

My husband’s company are giving all their employees a 5% bonus in January and are increasing their salaries by 5% in line with inflation.

Happyface120 · 16/12/2021 21:41

I'm in the NHS, this year all I've had is a complete breakdown for Christmas, with the added bonus of at least a couple of week signed off sick. I'm not entirely sure the pension will be worth it...

LeSquigh · 16/12/2021 21:49

Emergency services here so no bonus but the last couple of years have really made me appreciate having a secure as they come job with a pension that is probably as good as it gets and so much leave I struggle to use it. Double time on bank holidays too 🙂.

Badknitter · 16/12/2021 21:58

Nothing

DSGR · 16/12/2021 22:03

I just want to thank all those people working in the NHS on this thread. You deserve better pay

HunterHearstHelmsley · 16/12/2021 22:05

Hell no! I work for a health care charity.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 16/12/2021 22:06

@HunterHearstHelmsley

Hell no! I work for a health care charity.
Doing a role that is done elsewhere in the country by the NHS. We get all of the crap and none of the NHS perks
A580Hojas · 16/12/2021 22:08

For the past few years I've been given £200. I earn £14,000 (16 hours a week).

Tillsforthrills · 16/12/2021 22:08

@Kshhuxnxk

That’s quite a mean comment for teachers and NHS staff, hardly millionaires!

mrsed1987 · 16/12/2021 22:12

I work for a local authority. Some years we don't even get to finish early on Christmas eve 😂

But that's not why we do the job I guess!

fingersdoublecrossed · 16/12/2021 22:31

@TheChosenTwo

My headteacher sellotaped a malteser reindeer to my Christmas card, please don’t send me PM’s of jealousy/crying favouritism Grin
I did the same for my class! Except I asked a prefect to do the sellotaping!! 😉

We're treated the same as the children!!

minimadgirl · 16/12/2021 22:46

No, I work for the NHS. We used to get a free breakfast at the canteen but they stopped that for our trust as the canteen is owned by the other Trust onsite and didn't cover us, except they didn't tell us until we went to get it. Cue some very hungry workers Xmas morning.

JaceLancs · 16/12/2021 23:07

Nothing
I’m the manager so buy all my team a present - I also pick up the drinks tab at our Xmas meal
I get zilch myself

littleowls83 · 16/12/2021 23:35

No, and won't ever get one, I work in education/charity sector. I do get to wear jeans to work and occasionally get free food so it's all good really.
