Christmas bonuses-do you get one?

If you do get a Christmas bonus, what job do you do and how much do you get-enough to put in the pool you've always wanted or a gym membership like National Lampoon?Grin🎄 I've never had one as the NHS didn't value us. Well, unless a slightly shorter shift at Christmas counts. That 15 minutes made such a difference Hmm

In my current job there is zero bonus

Xmas party, has been cancelled due to covid

Allsorts1 · 17/12/2021 08:19

@urgenthelpplsas wow that is a great idea!

CeeceeBloomingdale · 17/12/2021 08:20

I was offered a mince pie the other day, does that count? If not then no.

etulosoba · 17/12/2021 08:25

I’m retired. I never had a Christmas bonus with any of the companies I worked for.

JaninaDuszejko · 17/12/2021 08:44

Bonuses sound nice but it's easier for a company to give a bonus than a pay increase or contribute to a pension because it's a defined one off payment. Not getting a bonus but getting a very generous pension (as ALL public sector pensions are) might not grab headlines but it does make you more valued.

stuffnthings · 17/12/2021 08:55

No bonuses or additional leave, global technology company with over 130k people. Pay rises are performance related only. Share price hit a record high this year too.

MrsMariaReynolds · 17/12/2021 08:58

I work in a primary school, so...no. Neverunless you include the grotty free Christmas school dinner earlier in the week

platerspinner · 17/12/2021 09:06

Estate agent so no bonus just our standard 55hr week to look forward to! Husband gets random ones each year, last year £500 John Lewis voucher, this year £850 in his Dec pay. He's in publishing.

CaptainCarp · 17/12/2021 09:19

We get a "Christmas" bonus but its our 6-monthly performance bonus which happens to come in the December pay packet. There's another 1 in June if we make targets.
The last few years its been about £250-300 which is about 2% of pay. Usually I put most of it away in savings or it pays for new tyres. Some maybe gets put towards Christmas presents or a night out with friends.
This year i hope to save about 90% & may treat myself with a bit of it.

CaptainCarp · 17/12/2021 09:22

Should have said I'm admin for a manufacturing company. We have been hitting target again every month for the past 12 months thankfully.

roarfeckingroarr · 17/12/2021 09:50

£35 voucher or towards a Christmas do, now deferred until January (when we will no doubt be locked down). But I get around 10% of my salary in bonus at the end of the financial year, so about £6k.

dannydyerismydad · 17/12/2021 11:11

School. Unlimited access to lateral flow tests seems to be my christmas gift.

MissAmbrosia · 17/12/2021 11:16

I'm abroad and we get a 13th month's pay in December and .85 of month's pay in May (double holiday pay). I love this way of working. I get an annual bonus based on company performance in March.

ivfbabymomma1 · 17/12/2021 11:24

I got my wage slip yesterday which included a weeks extra salary/bonus which was a nice surprise!

Biker47 · 17/12/2021 11:29

About £2k for me this year.

notanothertakeaway · 17/12/2021 11:32

@Spottyphonecase24

I work in a school so no. But our SLT are amazing and today they spoilt us out of their own pocket. They made us bacon rolls, coffee/tea/hot chocolate and delivered them to us in classrooms. This afternoon the delivered us cream cakes from the local bakery and in our pigeon holes there was a small wrapped gift for us. It was a box of chocolates each. It may seem small but there are over 100 staff. They really do make us feel appreciated and that’s what matters. We usually have a big Christmas lunch when the students leave tomorrow but with covid it was cancelled. The students all leave at 12.30 and our head has told us he wants us gone by 1 so we can start leave early.
@Spottyphonecase24 Just shows that you don't have to spend a lot of money to show appreciation to your staff

True! We became significantly happier when tea and toast Friday's was introduced!

gwenneh · 17/12/2021 14:46

We get a Christmas bonus (usually in November, well ahead of Christmas) of a month's salary. There's also profit sharing at the end of the fiscal year, that's separate from the Christmas bonus.

I use some of it towards Christmas and then save the rest of it. DH's bonus this year will probably be used to put down new flooring through our house (exciting, I know.)

Notadramallama · 17/12/2021 15:31

22 years in the private sector and never had a Christmas bonus.

TabbyM · 17/12/2021 15:38

Nope, no bonus, no gifts, no nights out - lucky to be able annual leave for time off!

elp30 · 17/12/2021 16:14

@Enzbear

Me and Dh are both self employed so unless we give ourselves a bonus, no. We do take 2 and a half weeks off work- far more enjoyable than extra money.

Self-employed here too.

It's not too bad though. We are home and work our business an average of 60 hours within a month. The rest of the time is us enjoying our time because we have so much of it. Plus, it's a really fun job. That's a real bonus!

Since it's Christmas, some clients do give us tips (about $180/£135 last week) so that is very nice.

Cas112 · 17/12/2021 16:15

Depends on how much the company makes each year but this year christmas bonus is £500

Hoppymclimpy · 17/12/2021 16:21

I got an additional £10 with my PIP (disability benefit) this month- does that count?!
In all fairness, I was a teacher before being medically retired at 42 so I've never received a Christmas bonus in monetary form but used to get lovely gifts from pupils and fantastic time off. I can't grumble as I do now have a teachers enhanced pension, which is not bad but a pension and PIP aren't in quite the league of some of these bonuses 😄.
My DP is a postie so gets a sheet of 1st class stamps. Again, living the high life!

mogsrus · 17/12/2021 16:24

Why do you get a bonus @ Christmas?

montymole · 17/12/2021 16:39

Yes @Hoppymclimpy 😂 forgot about the £10 extra DLA
