Christmas bonuses-do you get one?

If you do get a Christmas bonus, what job do you do and how much do you get-enough to put in the pool you've always wanted or a gym membership like National Lampoon?Grin🎄 I've never had one as the NHS didn't value us. Well, unless a slightly shorter shift at Christmas counts. That 15 minutes made such a difference Hmm

Charity sector - no bonus but an extra day's annual leave which I'm happy with

Pinetreesfall · 16/12/2021 19:28

Oh I wish! I work for a charity and pay is poor, bonuses don't exist!
Christmas party this year consisted of a plate of mince pies Confused

Kingsmede · 16/12/2021 19:28

@IUseThisNameToTalkAboutMoney

Financial services.

This year just over 40k. Usually it's nearer 30k.

In my industry, back office and support like me get a percentage of our salary and front office people who bring in business or can draw a direct line between what they do and profit made get a multiple.

We have bonus ranges defined with our jobs and if you are doing a good job at your level you should get roughly in the middle. If you get a low bonus it's a message to do better and if you get zero it's a deliberate insult and they want you to resign.

The higher the bonus, the more likely you get some of it deferred and/or in the form of shares in the company you work for.

Christ, that's nearly my annual salary.

Definitely working for the benefit of others in public service isn't all it's cracked up to be😉

Enzbear · 16/12/2021 19:28

Me and Dh are both self employed so unless we give ourselves a bonus, no. We do take 2 and a half weeks off work- far more enjoyable than extra money.

CuteOrangeElephant · 16/12/2021 19:28

I got 900 pounds. Most of it has been converted into a fancy sewing machine!

DrGoogleSaysSo · 16/12/2021 19:33

Nope, I get nothing Sad
Dh gets a £100 voucher, better than nothing

ListenLinda · 16/12/2021 19:39

Financial Services. Annual performance bonus that is paid at xmas time due to the end of the Financial year, not a christmas bonus as such.
We were told today its payable this year and will be paid with our salary next week. Depending on grade ranges between 2-8% if annual salary.

ivegotamillionkids · 16/12/2021 19:41

NHS - a mince pie and a hot chocolate Hmm

supertedious · 16/12/2021 19:44

We get £10 voucher....I will out it towards a bottle of Gin Wine

blablablack · 16/12/2021 19:45

No. I don't think I've ever had a Christmas bonus anywhere I've worked. I usually got some sort of gift but now at public sector job I get nada. I'm an accountant.

I've had annual bonuses before and quite generous around 12% annual salary but never paid at Christmas. Usually around April. This would be a gd few grand pre tax. I miss it now I do look forward to when I move companies and get them again lol. I do however have excellent flexibility, holidays and a brilliant pension. Swings and roundabouts I suppose.

sotiredofthislonelylife · 16/12/2021 19:47

Christmas bonus - haha!
Retired from social services now, but I think I once got away with borrowing a paper clip for an afternoon.

CatJumperTwat · 16/12/2021 19:47

My industry (construction) was hit quite hard by COVID so it's more of a token amount this year. I'm pretty senior and mine is £1,500.

Chivilo87 · 16/12/2021 19:48

Not at Christmas, but ~ 75% of base salary in March. 2/3 as cash and 1/3 as shares.

GirlOfTudor · 16/12/2021 19:48

I've never received one. I must be in the wrong industry 😆 Maybe one day ..

GoddamnCars · 16/12/2021 19:52

We got some sort of bullshit medal, it annoyed me because it was so pointless and must have cost something to manufacture; mine went straight in the bin. Someone said "it's a piece of history, you can give it to your children": - oh absolutely, exactly the kind of rubbish I want to add to everything else they need to sort through when I go.
I sound much more bitter than I really am Grin I'm happy to work where I do, and I don't expect a bonus as have never had one anywhere else!

Goatinthegarden · 16/12/2021 20:22

I’m a teacher, so no. But I did get to have a lovely party with my class of ten year olds this afternoon when most people are having their work parties cancelled (unfortunately tomorrow night’s grown-up work party has gone out the window).

Spottyphonecase24 · 16/12/2021 20:23

I work in a school so no. But our SLT are amazing and today they spoilt us out of their own pocket. They made us bacon rolls, coffee/tea/hot chocolate and delivered them to us in classrooms. This afternoon the delivered us cream cakes from the local bakery and in our pigeon holes there was a small wrapped gift for us. It was a box of chocolates each. It may seem small but there are over 100 staff. They really do make us feel appreciated and that’s what matters.

We usually have a big Christmas lunch when the students leave tomorrow but with covid it was cancelled. The students all leave at 12.30 and our head has told us he wants us gone by 1 so we can start leave early.

dementedma · 16/12/2021 20:25

Public sector. Nothing. Not even a box of chocolates

TheCreamCaker · 16/12/2021 20:29

My husband and his workmates usually get a £100 Asda card for Christmas (for about the past 6 years). They're not getting anything - not even a box of chocolates-this year, as the boss said the company cannot afford it. the management all had new cars this year though

berryhead2013 · 16/12/2021 20:30

I work in retail and we got 20 poond added to our loyalty cards 10 poond toward our Xmas night out and two days extra double discount this month i though that was pretty decent can't complain

CharlieBH4 · 16/12/2021 20:35

$1000

LizzoBorden · 16/12/2021 20:37

Not a Christmas bonus but an annual bonus that gets paid at Christmas (tomorrow!). 20k before tax, definitely not complaining

Teenstress11 · 16/12/2021 20:56

2 years ago £5 per shift worked per week (so for me who did 3 days £15, full-time £25). Last year-nothing (even though we all worked throughout covid and took no time off sick or holiday), this year no bonus but we had our Christmas meal our paid for (£30 a head).
Partner NHS absolutely nothing.

StarryNightSparkles · 16/12/2021 21:05

I have my own company and give all my staff a Christmas bonus of £200 each. Plus gifts/wine and lots of days off over Christmas and New Year. usually in non covid times take them all out for a boozy dinner as well. They are all really lovely and buy me such thoughtful gifts.

kennyshoodedjacket · 16/12/2021 21:07

Wow, some of these are huge!
I don't work for the NHS any more for various reasons but a previous poster's clueless comment made me laugh. I don't miss working on wards at all and now have a very different job that I love and where I feel valued.
