Did John love Paul more than any woman?

PaulForeverYokoNever · 15/12/2021 00:05

Following on from the question was Paul McCartney in 1969 the best looking rock star of all time, were John and Paul like David and Jonathan?

AIBU to say that John loved Paul more than any woman?

I’m sorry, who is saying Paul McCartney is the best looking ‘rock’ (lol) star of all time? And do they know where to find their nearest Specsavers?

This covers it nicely 🤣

He's not even in the top 100 imo.

I think the beatles, in general, are pretty overrated though.

Wishitsnows · 15/12/2021 00:16

I can't think of anyone who thought he looked even vaguely good. It was largely media hype and vast majority wouldn't have thought so. He seems very creepy now too!

Wishitsnows · 15/12/2021 00:16

Yes to the specsavers comment.

Lockheart · 15/12/2021 00:21

I think you need to use a different forum OP.

THIS.

I have literally never in my entire life heard anybody say they fancy Macca.

Who are David and Jonathan?

I was around when the Beatles burst onto the music scene. I don't think you can say there were overrated unless you understand the entire scene at the time. They were game changers, everything was different after they arrived. You might not like them, but they did have a profound influence on music and on society at that time.

And in answer to your OP, they were certainly close but I'm not sure that they loved each other more than they loved any woman. They were partners in many ways but they did love the women in their lives as well. So my answer would be "maybe".

SisterMichael · 15/12/2021 00:25

And do they know where to find their nearest Specsavers?

I read the thread title as “Did John Paul love more than one woman?” and thought it was about the previous Pope so I definitely do Blush

GozerTheGozerian · 15/12/2021 00:28

Oh OP I agree with you. I’ve seen Get Back - have always been a Macca fan but he’s on another level in it. I think it’s the beard. And late 60s fashion. And yes, I really think him and John loved each other (though not perhaps in the same way).

RaPumPumPumPum · 15/12/2021 00:30

@SisterMichael I’m not a Beatles fan but I’m a bit embarrassed that my first thought was the Apostles Blush

CasaBonita · 15/12/2021 00:31

He was absolutely gorgeous in 1969

PlanktonsComputerWife · 15/12/2021 00:33

No.

The Beatles are certainly overrated but they (mostly George) wrote about a dozen truly great songs, which is more than most bands can boast.

RonniePickering · 15/12/2021 00:36

I also thought this was about the Pope 😳
George was better looking than Paul.

PaulForeverYokoNever · 15/12/2021 00:37

To clarify:

I didn’t think of the question. But I do think that John loved Paul more than any woman.

ODFOgrinch · 15/12/2021 00:38

I saw the original 1969 Macca thread and although I don't see it myself I can see that he's a type.
To your actual question, no. I think they were more like brothers.

bonfireheart · 15/12/2021 00:39

This reminds me of all those teenagers who think Harry Styles was in love with Louis.

ChiefClerkDrumknott · 15/12/2021 00:41

Yes. They both acknowledged it in their own ways

Anyone who thinks they were overrated does not understand their impact and innovation 😂

PaulForeverYokoNever · 15/12/2021 00:43

@PlanktonsComputerWife

I know it’s very fashionable to say that George was the most talented, but it shows a real lack of insight. In reality, George wrote four songs that anyone has ever heard of, and he wasn’t even a great guitarist - that’s clear from the Get Back footage.

I bet there’s not as much badly written Lennon/McCartney sex fan fiction out there though.
PaulForeverYokoNever · 15/12/2021 00:45

@bonfireheart

It’s not the same thing at all.

John Lennon was cruel beyond all reason to his first wife and his son. I do not think people like him are capable of loving anyone other than themselves.

KingofQueens · 15/12/2021 00:54

Paul looks like Gillian McKeith.

Fontella · 15/12/2021 01:11

Before Yoko, John had a thing for the singer Alma Cogan.

When the Beatles were young in Liverpool they used to take the piss of out the pop singers of the day like Alma Cogan. But when John actually met her he was smitten. Even his wife Cynthia wrote about it in her book and George Harrison also talked about.

When she died so young of cancer he was devastated.

Here's a really interesting clip from Ready, Steady, go where you can see the interaction between John and Alma.

PlanktonsComputerWife · 15/12/2021 01:20

I have never been accused of holding a fashionable opinion before, OP.😂 But what rot! George had four or five good songs across Rubber Soul and Revolver alone- surely you don't think those terribly obscure?! And he wrote the best songs on Abbey Road, including the Beatles' most atmospheric and my particular favourite, Something. And their rare forays into humour (Piggies, Taxman)- again, George.

Nothing the others did post-Beatles ever gets the airplay My Sweet Lord does (though some of Paul's stuff is OK).

I actually love Paul, too. All the Lennon-McCartney songs that are truly great are very very Paul, e.g. Get Back and Got to Got You Into My Life which are absolute belters, and he also wrote several very charming little love songs that make very adequate album fillers.

But Mull of Kintyre and Wonderful Christmastime mean he will rot in hell for all eternity if God is the music fan I think he is, of course.Smile

I agree. Those who were not around at the time cannot possibly understand.
