Did John love Paul more than any woman?

Following on from the question was Paul McCartney in 1969 the best looking rock star of all time, were John and Paul like David and Jonathan?

AIBU to say that John loved Paul more than any woman?

OP posts:

The George worship is hilarious. Five good songs on Revolver and Rubber Soul? Which songs were they?

As for George being the most talented Beatle, that statement is just ridiculous. George wrote a few mediocre songs that mostly sounded the same (like an extended whine). His guitar playing never really improved after about 1965. He acknowledged this himself, but blamed it on Paul, who was his favourite dog to kick: everything was Paul’s fault in George’s world. In Get Back, he won’t take any of Paul’s suggestions for Paul’s own songs, and then tells him to get Eric Clapton. No wonder Paul had to play lead guitar himself on so many studio recordings.

If that’s what George was like all along, it’s a wonder they didn’t throw him out, let alone beg him to come back after his little strop.

I don’t go to school ‘these days’ and have no idea who David and Jonathan are. 🤷‍♀️

RonniePickering · 15/12/2021 12:23

Yeah I'm 42 and have never heard of David and Jonathan 🤔

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 15/12/2021 12:52

@PaulForeverYokoNever

Dear God. What do they teach people at school these days?

David and Jonathan are from the Bible.

To be fair there are an awful lot of Davids and Jonathans about and given you were talking about music it's not inconceivable that people might think David and Jonathan were in the music business. It's quite a leap from The Beatles to the disciples.
Anordinarymum · 15/12/2021 12:55

@madisonbridges

Personally I think John loved John more than any other woman. Or man. Or child.
Absolutely this
Corbally · 15/12/2021 12:58

@SisterMichael

And do they know where to find their nearest Specsavers?

I read the thread title as “Did John Paul love more than one woman?” and thought it was about the previous Pope so I definitely do Blush

Yes, I was up for a thread about Papal Shenanigans. Disappointing. Smile
WalkingOnTheCracks · 15/12/2021 13:08

It's quite a leap from The Beatles to the disciples.

It’s quite a leap from David and Jonathan to the disciples too. About a thousand years.

JaneJeffer · 15/12/2021 13:19

The thread title is very confusing TBF. Is it asking if John loved Paul more than John loved any woman, or if John loved Paul more than any woman loved Paul?

Paul seems to be one of those people that MN hates for no reason that I can fathom. He was (and is - McCartney III is brilliant) a hugely talented musician and songwriter. Of course he's not perfect but George was serially unfaithful (he had an affair with Mo Starkey, Ringo's wife ffs) and controlling (stopping Pattie Boyd from modelling) but he's the MN Beatle of choice. Some of the comments about Paul's appearance are just downright nasty. He was bloody gorgeous I think. If you watch Get Back nothing would have happened without him, he put all the work in. Such a charismatic performer as well.

Rant over!

YouGotThisKeepGoing · 15/12/2021 13:27

@KingofQueens

Paul looks like Gillian McKeith.
I love this.
EYProvider · 15/12/2021 13:34

@DareDevil223

Completely agree - Paul is brilliant, and in answer to the thread, yes, John was completely besotted with him though whether it was a platonic love a la Jonathan and David, I’m not sure. The way he played Stuart and Paul against each other and compared Paul (unfavourably) to Yoko makes me doubt it, but I think it is the least interesting aspect of their relationship. Theirs was a spiritual connection - otherworldly actually - and the Jonathan and David analogy is a good one.

InaccurateDream · 15/12/2021 14:12

I never thought McCartney was attractive, but watch Get Back and he definitely has 'it' - something that elevates him above the others (although John's wit once he's in a good mood in the second half of get back is lovely to see). Somehow it makes him attractive!

@JaneJeffer

Or this even oops
Heather Mills experience is very similar to this
JaneJeffer · 15/12/2021 14:14

Paul was controlling too @DareDevil223. It seems to be a theme running through the band. I wonder what Ringo is like.

RaPumPumPumPum · 15/12/2021 14:15

Anyone who says the Beatles were overrated is talking out of their arse

Hmm

People are allowed opinions that don’t match yours, and personally I think their songs are shit. I love MCR, Green Day, FOB, but I wouldn’t have a tantrum in you didn’t like them.

ditalini · 15/12/2021 14:16

John loved John more than any woman and I suspect the same went for his best friends, so yes.

Ozanj · 15/12/2021 14:20

The Beatles weren’t necessarily about the music or their looks. It was the first time a music group focussed on winning over young people (especially female) & that’s why they were so different. Even Elvis didn’t have as many young female fans in his heydey as the Beatles did. They then set the scene for the rest of the bands that followed (regardless of musical genre).

EYProvider · 15/12/2021 14:23

@ditalini - I don’t think John loved John at all. I think he was full of self-loathing and despair.

@Ozanj - Sorry, what? The Beatles weren’t all about the music? That’s a ridiculous statement. For goodness sake, John and Paul wrote the songbook of all time.

Theremoresefulday · 15/12/2021 14:25

I grew up with a dad who worshipped The Beatles and Elvis and their music was on in the house a lot.

I don’t like either of them. 🤷🏼‍♀️

SammyScrounge · 15/12/2021 14:25

@ShippingNews

I think the beatles, in general, are pretty overrated though

I was around when the Beatles burst onto the music scene. I don't think you can say there were overrated unless you understand the entire scene at the time. They were game changers, everything was different after they arrived. You might not like them, but they did have a profound influence on music and on society at that time.

And in answer to your OP, they were certainly close but I'm not sure that they loved each other more than they loved any woman. They were partners in many ways but they did love the women in their lives as well. So my answer would be "maybe".

You are so right. I remember how it was when they arrived - so young and fresh and different.They gave off an energy that nobody else did and they made the way for all kinds of new music. Everything changed beecause of them. And they were brilliant song writers.
Ozanj · 15/12/2021 14:36

Their fans at the time believed so and so it happened but musically they were no different to what came before except that Paul wrote the songs rather than stealing songs from black musicians like other bands and musicians did. It’s actually the rock bands that came after that truly added to the quality of the music of the time, increasing diversity in the music scene enough, that black music genres could finally break through fully into the mainstream.

Giggorata · 15/12/2021 14:45

What fontanella and gofg said.
If you weren’t around in the early sixties onwards, you have no idea about the explosion of the Beatles into the popular music scene.
When people recall that everything seemed black and white before the colour of the sixties, much of that is down to the Beatles. As well as music and recording techniques, they influenced society, art, fashion and cinema.
They served their time performing live and it showed. Their only limitations were the equipment and the technology of the day.
People are used to amazing technological innovations that make everyone sound good these days, not necessarily those you could call musicians.
And they are all standing on the shoulders of giants…

… and yes, I think that John loved Paul like no other, regardless of how you want to label it.

EYProvider · 15/12/2021 14:51

Sorry, @Ozanj, but that is absolute nonsense. Yes, their heroes were black musicians like Little Richard, Chuck Berry, etc. They were also inspired by Elvis, Buddy Holly, Carl Perkins, the Everly’s. No one who came after them ever got close to their level of genius.

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 15/12/2021 14:54

@WalkingOnTheCracks

My apologies...I'm not religious...but my point still stands...it's quite a leap from The Beatles to the Bible
EYProvider · 15/12/2021 15:01

@MyGhastIsFlabbered - The OP has used the analogy because David famously loved Jonathan more than any woman. It’s very apt, and I’ve seen it used before in reference to John and Paul.
