Did John love Paul more than any woman?

Following on from the question was Paul McCartney in 1969 the best looking rock star of all time, were John and Paul like David and Jonathan?

AIBU to say that John loved Paul more than any woman?

@Ozanj that's pretty much how I feel. I think 70s music was several thousand times more creative, and had aged better. I also agree that once black music went mainstream, white boy bands had to get a lot better, sharpish.

That said, I will still quite happily listen to most Beatles music (Elvis is shite IMO)- the Sgt Pepper album excepted. Pretentious and unlistenable except for Ringo!

Ye I don’t really find the Beatles’ songs worth listening to. I guess I few them as historical artefacts, great as a piece of history like Shakespeare, but not my sort of music. The 70s and 80s was when the real change happened for me & all the Beatles were, in my opinion, was a tiny stepping stone towards it.

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 15/12/2021 15:31

But Mull of Kintyre and Wonderful Christmastime mean he will rot in hell for all eternity if God is the music fan I think he is, of course.
Agreed he should have served jail time for those - but he deserved serious bird for the fucking frog fucking chorus.

Ozanj · 15/12/2021 15:33

@EYProvider

Sorry, *@Ozanj*, but that is absolute nonsense. Yes, their heroes were black musicians like Little Richard, Chuck Berry, etc. They were also inspired by Elvis, Buddy Holly, Carl Perkins, the Everly’s. No one who came after them ever got close to their level of genius.
Come off it. Plenty of people were better than the Beetles even at the time. They only got their opportunities they did because they were young and decent looking and white and appeared squeaky clean enough that parents allowed their kids to go to concerts. That is all.
EYProvider · 15/12/2021 15:44

Young, decent looking and white? LOL.

3beesinmybonnet · 15/12/2021 16:01

@daimbarsatemydogsbone
I now have the fucking frog fucking chorus stuck in my head on repeat. So merry fucking Christmas to you too😠😠😠

Also Paul McCartney looks like a depressed budgie that's never let out of its cage with his pecking little beak.

Oh my God 😪😂

What a nasty comment. Horrible.

Every thread about the Beatles/PM or JL seems to go a bit bonkers. Confused

Abhannmor · 15/12/2021 17:48

When we introduced our kids to the Beatles - we got the film Help on video - they quickly worked their way through the back catalogue. Their verdict : all other bands are crap with the exception of REM. They've broadened their palette of late but Beatles are still no 1.

Abhannmor · 15/12/2021 17:53

@EYProvider

Young, decent looking and white? LOL.
Yeah there was obviously some amazingly talented group of black lads in Liverpool circa 1962. Only for those pesky Beatles to get the gig instead.
Sparklingbrook · 15/12/2021 17:55

Have I failed as a parent for not introducing my two DC to a band that were big not only before they were born but before I was?

EYProvider · 15/12/2021 17:56

@Abhannmor - Exactly, and they were just so privileged, right?

EYProvider · 15/12/2021 17:59

@Sparklingbrook - It depends how much value you place on art really.

I hope this is supposed to be a joke.

EYProvider · 15/12/2021 18:02

@JaneJeffer - Said no one ever. Outside of MN obviously.

JaneJeffer · 15/12/2021 18:02

Ok I'm done here because I don't understand your tone @EYProvider

You and me both.
DeclareThePenniesOnYourEyes · 15/12/2021 18:04

John was pretty mentally unwell, I think, and I think sexually speaking he was seriously oversexed. It wouldn’t shock me to hear he was secretly gay and that was what was going on with him. That said, he was the creative dynamo of the group, I think. Do love George though, as my username attests.

oviraptor21 · 15/12/2021 18:06

Sorry .... not an answer to your question but could not let the ....Beatles are overrated .... comment pass by without a big eye roll!

I'd also argue that Imagine gets more airplay than My Sweet Lord. Not that airplay is an indication of how good a song is.

Anyway back to The Beatles. Pretty much the most sophisticated popular songwriters of their generation, hugely influential, prolific output considering their short career as a group and so many hidden gems.

I like some but not all art. Much like everybody else. Confused

Yeah, I think you have.
Sparklingbrook · 15/12/2021 18:14

@WalkingOnTheCracks well that ship has sailed so they can discover The Beatles by themselves if they so wish.
At what age should I have done it? Confused

RandomDent · 15/12/2021 18:14

Tomorrow Never Knows is amazing, and the way it was made was ahead of its time in so many ways.

And I like Wonderful Christmastime, so ner. Grin

PlanktonsComputerWife · 15/12/2021 18:14

@sparklingbrook they may have heard Got to Get You Into My Life at the end of The Minions, Hello Goodbye at the cricket, variations on Hey Jude and Yellow Submarine at the football.

I believe of the 60s bands both the Kinks and the Stones have aged better, so those are the tunes I personally inflict on my offspring.🤷‍♀️
