To be bothered by a delivery driver smoking in their van?

Presume it's the cold and miserable weather but twice in a couple of days I've seen a delivery driver parked round the corner in company van having a smoke with parcels on the dashboard, no windows open. Then delivers said parcels to ours and neighbour's houses - mostly gifts for the babies and children in the family so things we definitely don't want smelling of smoke. Two different drivers. Is it legal for them to do so? Is it unreasonable for us to complain?

Oh God, life is too short.

@Peanutmnm

Oh God, life is too short.
Yes it really is. Try to put the smoking driver out of your mind.
WomanWithDiamondEarring · 01/12/2021 15:37

I hope he doesn't have the temerity to fart near your parcels. Get a life!

Catfox1 · 01/12/2021 15:38

I actually think it’s illegal to smoke in a commercial vehicle but don’t quote me, I don’t know enough about it. I would drop it though

Better they smoke in the vehicle than outside, surely? If they are inside and the windows are shut there's less chance of an innocent person breathing in the smoke.

Wrinklyeyes · 01/12/2021 15:38

Leave them alone, FFS.

Yes you would be very unreasonable to complain.

Mrsjayy · 01/12/2021 15:39

Oh good god just bin the packaging and get on with your life !

nitsandwormsdodger · 01/12/2021 15:39

Yes it’s illegal as it’s classed as a work space
But really ...
most clothes come wrapped in way to much plastic and cardboard for it to smell
Seriously check yourself

Hankunamatata · 01/12/2021 15:40

U can be serious!

WorraLiberty · 01/12/2021 15:40

Christ on a fucking cracker, seriously? 🙄

It's allowed provided only one person uses the vehicle in question. If there is a pool of vehicles which have different drivers each day, you can't smoke in them. Equally if there is a driver and passenger, neither can smoke (even if the other agrees). Finally, the company has to agree the person is allowed to smoke.
claymodels · 01/12/2021 15:40

It's only illegal if you are not the sole user of the van.

Also, unwrap the gift from the packaging before you give it to the baby.

They can fart all they like, I'm not aware of fart smells lingering for days after or of scientista having looked into the dangers of third hand farts Hmm

How strange OP. Do you think no shop assistants/hairdressers/warehouse pickers and packers smoke?

Mrsjayy · 01/12/2021 15:44

Lots of delivery drivers are self employed so more than likely it's their own vehicle so can smoke in it all they want!

Libertaire · 01/12/2021 15:45

Get a grip 🙄

Haven't you read any of the "keep the lid closed" threads on here?

grapewine · 01/12/2021 15:46

You really need to get a serious grip. Jesus.

Mrsjayy · 01/12/2021 15:47

But you are not exposing your child to. Cardboard and plastic wrap so how are they in any danger from third hand smoke

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 01/12/2021 15:47

Are you really bothered if a box is a bit smelly?

AuntMasha · 01/12/2021 15:48

Jesus tap dancing Christ. Leave the poor man alone.

Crazycrazylady · 01/12/2021 15:48

Honestly op. You must have a pretty amazing life if you're down to complaining about seeing a delivery driver smoke in their own can

Thanks that's interesting, I guess we'd have no way of finding out whether that's the case!

Unfortunately no packaging inside the box on a couple of the things (teething toys, soft toys, bamboo plates) but I guess we can wipe them down and air them before we wrap them.

girlmom21 · 01/12/2021 15:49

I can't imagine that the parcels are close enough to the smoke for long enough for it to cause any problems for anyone.
