To be bothered by a delivery driver smoking in their van?

Presume it's the cold and miserable weather but twice in a couple of days I've seen a delivery driver parked round the corner in company van having a smoke with parcels on the dashboard, no windows open. Then delivers said parcels to ours and neighbour's houses - mostly gifts for the babies and children in the family so things we definitely don't want smelling of smoke. Two different drivers. Is it legal for them to do so? Is it unreasonable for us to complain?

OP in the nicest way, this is not a normal level of worry/concern.

My siblings and I, as well as much of Gen X, sat in parents’ or grandparents’ laps as they smoked when we were young children. You are way too precious for your own good.

OP, after you've got the driver sacked you need to stop ordering online. Or buying anything. Items in shops may have had someone smoking near them whilst in transit or in factories etc. Items from online retailers may be the same. Become self sufficient immediately. It's the only way to become free from the threat of tiny weeny little particles of fag smoke.

There is a delivery driver round here that delivers in his own smoky car so no cab to sit in. Parcels always stink of smoke when they arrive - it really isn't pleasant. I always bin the packaging as quickly as possible.
I've never complained but if there was no packaging I might consider it.

I hate smoking and smoking associated smells but YABVU! Leave the poor guy alone and chuck away the packaging after your parcels arrive.

Hi OP. Took a quick look back and a lot of of your previous posts seem to be about cleanliness and germs. So maybe you are hyperfocused on contaminants in a way that is unusual, and possibly not entirely helpful to you? I don't think the driver's smoking will affect the contents of your parcels in any way so don't worry.

I read an article recently saying that delivery drivers are so pushed to his targets they don't have time to stop for toilet breaks so piss in bottles in their vehicle. I'd be more concerned about spills than the odd ciggy 🤷🏼‍♀️

Seriously though, they are just trying to earn a living in a generally shitty job. Don't be a dick to your delivery drivers.

Unfortunately no packaging inside the box on a couple of the things (teething toys, soft toys, bamboo plates) but I guess we can wipe them down and air them before we wrap them.

I'm surprised how many people think you are unreasonable. I've just ordered an expensive dress. I would be furious if it arrived smelling of smoke. It's a vile think to do around other people's things. Report it.

There probably is some sort of rule about this, somewhere, but I think it would be a bit much to take any action here. Your packages have been in contact with all manner of gross things before the get to the delivery driver.

As a non smoker who does not allow smoking in the house l really think this is going over the top.

Where will your anxiety over a non event end? YABU!
