No Religious Christmas cards

mumofEandE · 28/11/2021 23:05

I was in one of those 'cheap card shops' and a customer asked if there were any Religious Christmas cards.
There weren't.
I am not a practising Christian/ or practising anything (!) but this really made me feel that this is wrong!

Personally I'm not interested in what members of other faiths do at Christmas.

Atheism isn't a faith. For clarity.

mustlovegin · 30/11/2021 17:01

Do you have any objection to that, or 'happy solstice' on the relevant day?

In what way do you think being an atheist makes you a superior human being?

The disdain for religious beliefs displayed by some on this thread is rather unpalatable

mustlovegin · 30/11/2021 17:05

The more I see this sort of thread, the more I start to like the bland, hopefully universally inoffensive 'Happy Holidays' ubiquitous among my US colleagues and friends

I would only send 'Happy Holidays' cards to clients (as I most likely wouldn't know whether they are Christian or not)

EmpressSuiko · 30/11/2021 17:12

"I am curious what the Christians would like the atheists to do"

I’m an atheist, I love “Christmas” we essentially celebrate Yule as we enjoy all of the pagan roots and traditions of the holiday and just omit the Christian parts, after all mid winter celebrations happened long before Christians came along and invented Christmas!

Mrs T P,
"Atheism isn't a faith. For clarity."
OK, I should have 'other faiths or no faith', is that OK?

DK
"Oh get over yourself. Religious people like you (and they’re certainly not all like you) are always whinging. Bloody victim complex."

Have you actually read this thread? There are atheists complaining as well, so do they also have a 'victim complex' ?

I really don't know how you inferred a sense of superiority or disdain from what I thought was a mild question. I wasn't the one calling people who don't conform to my worldview 'twatty'.

Are any non-believers trying the ‘my beliefs are sacrosanct’? bullshit? Can you point me to those?

Ellen888 · 30/11/2021 17:55

D King,
No, but I can see some non believers who seem to think their non-beliefs are sacrosanct !

No-one should be disrespected because of what beliefs they have or haven't got.

Those here throwing brickbats at Christians should try being disrespectful about Islam and see how far that gets them.

You’re a walking cliché; ‘try picking on the Muslims!’ Christianity is the dominant force in this country, Anglicanism is the established church. Bishops sit in the House of Lords.

D King,

"You’re a walking cliché; ‘try picking on the Muslims!’ Christianity is the dominant force in this country, Anglicanism is the established church. Bishops sit in the House of Lords."

What are you talking about?!

You seem to really have your panties in a bunch over something but I really don't understand what.

All this ranting because the OP couldn't buy some religious Christmas Cards. Confused

I’ll keep it simple for you, as you seem to need it. I was responding to: The disdain for religious beliefs displayed by some on this thread is rather unpalatable. That’s nothing to do with the issue of Christmas Cards; that’s the special pleading of the religious. Religious beliefs are no more worthy of respect than any other belief in the supernatural.
DismantledKing · 30/11/2021 18:12

And then you said:
Those here throwing brickbats at Christians should try being disrespectful about Islam and see how far that gets them.

To which I responded.

Honestly, do you not know how the internet works?

speakout · 30/11/2021 18:14

My sister is a devout christian.
Her cards often involve images ofseveral camels with their feet stuck in the sand. So seasonal.
What's not to love!

Well, try making any kind of cogent argument at all. I’d rather deal with that.

No I don't think I'm superior. I don't however have any respect for religious beliefs. I do for religious people as long as they aren't undeserving of respect.

People who call themselves Christian could be protesting against abortion or running a shelter. One I respect, the other I don't.

And I'm no more respectful of Islam or Judaism. I am of Muslim and Jewish people. Again though, my Muslim and Jewish friends aren't dicks and we do joke about religion. And discuss it seriously, warts and all.

MrsTerryPratchett · 30/11/2021 18:27

OK, I should have 'other faiths or no faith', is that OK?

And yes, that's great. Thanks.

FluffyBooBoo · 30/11/2021 18:32

How much respect do Christians have for new age beliefs? For astrology? For energy healing?

Just curious.

HostaFireAndIce · 30/11/2021 18:36

Isn't energy healing basically the same as faith healing but without the faith bit?

Tanith · 30/11/2021 18:39

Depends on the Christian. I'm a Christian with a Pagan sister. I don't agree with some of her beliefs; she doesn't agree with some of mine.

She is my sister and I love her. We both join in the celebrations of each other's faiths.

BiscuitLover3679 · 30/11/2021 18:40

People on this thread need to pull the pole out of their arse! 🤣 Yeah it's a bit odd op. It shows how our culture has adapted something religious into something quite bizarre (and I'm one of them)

You'd think!

You know Halloween is theoretically also a religious festival?

Oh please.
Has Samhain bypassed you? Halloween is nothing to do with Guy fawkes.

The name 'Halloween' comes from 'All Hallows Eve". So, another Christian festival coinciding with a pagan one
