A whole new level of mansplaining

I am having treatment for cancer at the moment, it's hard going but I'm feeling pretty fine in between sessions. I'm wfh and pop into the office once a fortnight.
I went in quite early yesterday, first to arrive and was just settling down when a colleague came in. He quipped that I was up early and I replied that no hair makes showering quicker and laughed.
He put in a complaint that I'm not taking my cancer treatment seriously. An actual complaint. Poor HR had to ring me about it. He told them he is concerned that I don't understand the side effects.

How did HR respond? What did they say to the twat?

CecilieRose · 01/10/2021 08:14

What? That's actually unbelievable. Does he seem normal generally?

Werehamster · 01/10/2021 08:14

People are fucking crazy!

millerpie · 01/10/2021 08:15

Wow!

DillonPanthersTexas · 01/10/2021 08:15

Is that mansplaining? Seems like he just being a twat?

Best of luck with your treatment

CigarsofthePharoahs · 01/10/2021 08:16

What on Earth? What a crazy thing to do!

Noogar · 01/10/2021 08:16

What on earth did HR say?!

RocketPanda · 01/10/2021 08:18

He seems very normal and a bit under the radar. Gets his work done.
HR were very apologetic and it was awkward for them. We were laughing at the end but I was like wtf.

shouldistop · 01/10/2021 08:19

Christ, what a twat. HR shouldn't have even spoken to you about it actually. They should have told him to mind his own business.

Whatwouldscullydo · 01/10/2021 08:19

Good grief wtf. There's no right or wrong way to deal with being sick ffs. You carry on op. It's all up to you. Flowers

minou123 · 01/10/2021 08:19

What the actual fuck?

You know, at the age of 40, I thought I'd heard everything. I honestly thought I'd heard all sexist, mansplaining, idiotic acts of men.

I wish you all my love and support with your treatment.

In regards to dealing with this fucknugget, I'm at a loss.

There are some brilliant women who will come along soon with some excellent advice.

Merryoldgoat · 01/10/2021 08:19

Why did HR tell you? Why didn’t they tell him to fuck off?

pickingdaisies · 01/10/2021 08:19

Put in a counter complaint that he is interfering in your personal health? That he doesn't understand the methods people use to deal with their own cancer treatment? That he has caused you unnecessary personal distress? Lay it on with a trowel.

RocketPanda · 01/10/2021 08:20

He got another department to explain how I should feel and react according to him. I think that's under the heading of mansplaining.

groundhogyear · 01/10/2021 08:20

I think Covid has made everyone a bit bonkers. I am sure you will have assessed all of this but do you think his concern could be about you catching something in the office ? We're due to return shortly and lots of people are less concerned about catching it themselves but more worries about how bad they would feel if they passed it on to others.

LawnFever · 01/10/2021 08:20

What are HR going to feedback to him? I hope they’re going to tell him to stop being a twat?

MrsWooster · 01/10/2021 08:22

I would pretend it hadn’t happened in a frightfully English way, but I’d WANT to front up to him and say “how DARE you imply that you have ANY insight into MY body, my life, my illness? How fucking DARE you??”

JayAlfredPrufrock · 01/10/2021 08:22

Oh come on OP. You are not ‘fighting’ your cancer in the appropriate way.

Try harder.

PS good luck with your treatment. And stay upbeat.

Coconutscrub · 01/10/2021 08:22

HR shouldn’t have even given this the time of day to report back to you. I’m most surprised at that to be honest.

Coconutscrub · 01/10/2021 08:23

Also, totally agree that he’s a pleb and best wishes for your treatment xxx

RocketPanda · 01/10/2021 08:23

I'm not going to bother with a counter complaint. But I'm not going to make this a secret either.

OP posts:
FangsForTheMemory · 01/10/2021 08:24

Why didn’t HR tell him to do one?

Noogar · 01/10/2021 08:25

Did HR maybe feel they wanted to check in with you that you're OK rather than follow up the complaint as a complaint. What a weird thing to complain about.

Naunet · 01/10/2021 08:26

Oh my god! I would seriously consider putting in a complaint about him. What an appalling little dickhead.

SuperSange · 01/10/2021 08:27

Dear Lord, I'm so sorry that happened to you. Like you say, I'd be telling everyone. You've done nothing wrong, so no need to keeps it quiet. Thanks
