Just back from putting air in the car tyres and the queue into the forecourt for fuel was ridiculous.

Appreciate it doesn't help that the news bulletins start with" BP closes some petrol stations" and that nobody hears beyond this to "Asda, Morrisons and other supermarkets are saying they have no problems, as have other petrol companies.”

Just stop it.

I need petrol , I'm going to leave it though , hopefully I'll manage

Sparklingbrook · 24/09/2021 12:02

It's the same here, just seen pictures on FB local page of huge queues blocking the road at Sainsbury's garage. It's open til 11pm too, don't know what the rush is.
The local BP had no unleaded yesterday at all.

the80sweregreat · 24/09/2021 12:02

Our local Sainsbury's had a massive queue at 8 this morning and will probably run out!
It feels the same manic panic buying that went on 18 months ago

FreeBritnee · 24/09/2021 12:03

People won’t quit. If they couldn’t contr themselves over toilet roll they’re sure as hell not going to risk running out of fuel.

FreeBritnee · 24/09/2021 12:04

The thing that intrigued me was I thought everyone (bar me) how had electric cars and WFH. I wouldn’t have thought there was such a demand for petrol as there once was. But obviously I’m wrong!

They're idiots. Probably most people with 3/4 of a tank full "topping it up".

gogohm · 24/09/2021 12:07

Fortunately I bought fuel yesterday afternoon in preparation for the university drop off, before the story broke!

Xiaoxiong · 24/09/2021 12:07

FreeBritnee I actually just rented an electric car and it was delivered this morning - what timing Grin

sittingonacornflake · 24/09/2021 12:09

The worlds gone made yet a bloody gain.

Suitcaseseverywhere · 24/09/2021 12:09

Some of us can’t afford an electric car and couldn’t charge one anyway.

PurpleDaisies · 24/09/2021 12:10

My light is on. I’m worried people will think I’m panic buying when I actually need petrol.

MyCatDribbles · 24/09/2021 12:14

I wish the media wouldn’t stoke it up

mbosnz · 24/09/2021 12:19

Gawd. I remember queueing for petrol in Christchurch after the quakes, and we were on red. There were fist fights breaking out. We decided bugger that for a game of soldiers, and went home. But it was horrible knowing that even if we wanted to get out of Dodge, we couldn't.

sst1234 · 24/09/2021 12:20

Everyone knows that there is no shortage but everyone also believes that others will panic buy. So we everyone panic buys, meaning that even though we know that we shouldn’t, we all need to stockpile. If one person does it, everyone needs to do it.

Why did you think that?
Tal45 · 24/09/2021 12:24

It's toilet roll all over again!

Annoyedanddissapointed · 24/09/2021 12:27

It's not that long ago pics and videos from US corculated. People were pumping petrol into anything because prices were supposed to go up. Can't remember details.

Will petrol in UK be this year's toilet paper?

gamerchick · 24/09/2021 12:30

I've been doing that ever since that E10 stuff came out, because one by one the petrol stations around here are stopping the premium E5. I'd rather keep it topped up than drive around looking for somewhere that sells the stuff when nearly on empty because a garage has suddenly clagged a diesal sticker over it.

It's the bloody media again, they did it last year and everyone went toilet roll mad. Learn the lessons.

Stellaris22 · 24/09/2021 12:30

It's stupid and highlights how over reliant people are on their cars.

We use ours once a week and won't be rushing out to the petrol station anytime soon.

FreeBritnee · 24/09/2021 12:33

Why did you think that?

Must just be where I live. Everyone I know now has either an electric or hybrid car. Bar me.

delilahbucket · 24/09/2021 12:33

Same here this morning. I forgot to fill up yesterday and had I not been close to running on fumes I wouldn't have gone today. As soon as I saw the news saying last night "there's no need to panic buy" I just knew everyone would do just that 🙄

Annoyedanddissapointed · 24/09/2021 12:35

Well that is really probably just where you live tbh

Yeah… to get to work.
