Just back from putting air in the car tyres and the queue into the forecourt for fuel was ridiculous.

Appreciate it doesn't help that the news bulletins start with" BP closes some petrol stations" and that nobody hears beyond this to "Asda, Morrisons and other supermarkets are saying they have no problems, as have other petrol companies.”

Just stop it.

it's also ridiculous with the news this morning - first story 6am news on Times Radio this story - PM says NOT to panic over possible shortage of fuel - there's plenty of other stuff going on in the UK, a woman was murdered on a 5 min walk last week in London - lead on that!
I am pretty sure the media want to actually create the shortages they profess to want to "inform" us about.
On the plus side, more attention to lorry drivers which will increase their pay and overall result in better terms and conditions for them.

Gimlisaxe · 24/09/2021 13:03

@MyPatronusIsACat

I don't know, there were a lot of people in Texas a few months back trying to do exactly that.

I am not sure how true it was, but people were using their bathtubs to store it and that is when I found out how short a lifeline petrol has

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 24/09/2021 13:06

I filled mine up yesterday so thankfully I can avoid the insanity for at a week until it settles down a bit. Doesn't help that 3 out of 5 petrol stations around here are BP.

IveGotASongThatllGetOnYNerves · 24/09/2021 13:06

Well they will create the shortages now won't they?
🙄 Idiots.

BATHTUB Shock

How did they get the petrol from the gas stations to their bathtub?!

user1468105798 · 24/09/2021 13:09

The two garages local to me in the South East actually ran out last week

Goatling · 24/09/2021 13:09

We drove to our local town this morning and every petrol station we passed was jammed, we live in a village which is half hour drive to our nearest petrol station and we have no bus service so if we run out we are stuffed. Luckily we are stocked up with essentials, cat food, cat litter and wine, we'll be fine.

Kaley3043 · 24/09/2021 13:10

I'm worried about Dp. He's on the red (he always lets it get too low). There's a petrol station on his route home but it's rammed apparently and worried about running out. He'll get home as it's only a few mile drive but worried about getting work tomorrow and Monday if everyone's drained it! Hopefully it'll teach him not to let his tank get too low though!

ElephantOfRisk · 24/09/2021 13:11

something else to add to the crisis with ambulances up here in Scotland. Just handy to have half the available ambulances stuck in a queue for petrol.

Ljc1985 · 24/09/2021 13:11

I needed to fill up today as we are going away tomorrow! Two most local garages have shut as no fuel . Thankfully after a 20 minute queue at the third I got some petrol! It's panic buying madness but as someone said it's easy to get swept up in

ilovesooty · 24/09/2021 13:11

@PurpleDaisies

My light is on. I’m worried people will think I’m panic buying when I actually need petrol.
You know you need to fill up. It doesn't matter what random strangers think.
FourTeaFallOut · 24/09/2021 13:12

@mbosnz

Gawd. I remember queueing for petrol in Christchurch after the quakes, and we were on red. There were fist fights breaking out. We decided bugger that for a game of soldiers, and went home. But it was horrible knowing that even if we wanted to get out of Dodge, we couldn't.
Yup. I was there. Scariest fucking time of my life in a gas station, being screamed at by a traumatised but no less terrifying guy at a petrol station while DH went to pay with the kids in the back, one of who was vomiting from the stress, and praying that the next aftershock wouldn't bring anything down around us. It makes my legs go hollow remembering it.
Gimlisaxe · 24/09/2021 13:12

@MyPatronusIsACat I assume in petrol cans and then emptied into the bath, back to another gas station to get more

deadleaves · 24/09/2021 13:14

@Stellaris22

It's stupid and highlights how over reliant people are on their cars.

We use ours once a week and won't be rushing out to the petrol station anytime soon.

I used to be a bike-cycling bus-riding smug arse like this when I lived in the city. Now I live semi-rural with next to non-existent public transport I realise that many people have no choice but to rely on their cars.
Dollywilde · 24/09/2021 13:15

It was mad when I walked past our local BP on the way back from nursery drop off this morning. We were down to 30 miles of petrol left on Wednesday (unusual for us) and something made me stop and top up even though I don’t need the car til next week now. So pleased I don’t have to join the scrum.

Joystir59 · 24/09/2021 13:16

@Gimlisaxe how incredibly dangerous to have a bathtub of petrol in your house!

Volterra · 24/09/2021 13:16

We’ve had issues here for about a week now but people on our local FB have been helping anyone who is running short find places . However this morning sounds like it has descended into chaos unfortunately.

Problem is everyone knows Boris means the opposite of what he says and he constantly lies so when he says don’t panic everyone is clearly going to.

amusedbush · 24/09/2021 13:17

Ahhh I'm just back from Tesco and I was confused by the traffic jam at the mini roundabout to get onto the petrol station forecourt - I've never seen anything like it here. That explains it.

I just filled up a few days ago so hopefully I'll be fine until it calms down.

Teflondreams · 24/09/2021 13:17

The station nearest me has ran out!!
I always fill my car up on a Friday PM as I do a half day.
I couldn’t today so I’ve gone home with about 50 miles left in the tank. I don’t know whether to try a run out later to a nearby town as I’m supposed to be working tomorrow and currently don’t have enough to get there and back.

What a pain.

Joystir59 · 24/09/2021 13:17

I live and work in a rural location and need a car to get to work . So eff off all you smug twats who think having a car makes me the devil incarnate.

ElephantOfRisk · 24/09/2021 13:18

We are going to meet up to scatter BiL's ashes at the weekend. His funeral was last year under restrictions so only a few people were able to go. People have booked accommodation etc to attend so we need to go and should have enough petrol for that. Picking our new car up on Monday and we'll feel bad if it's near empty when we hand it in and hope they've managed to fill our new one so we can at least get it home. We might end up having to use the little bit we have for the grass mower!

TwoMountains · 24/09/2021 13:18

Oh, that’s a bit of a worry. My car’s only quarter full. No idea how much DH has in his car but he tends to leave filling up till he’s running on fumes.

And while it would be lovely for us to not need any cars, it is unfortunately a necessity due to the state of public transport round here and distances between home and school / work.

PurpleDaisies · 24/09/2021 13:19

Same. We have one bus a day. The country lanes are terrifying for cyclists. There really is no other way to get to work, especially if I’ve got sixty children’s exercise books with me…

Yeah that's me.....to get my 3 children to 3 different schools in a 15 minute time slot!

None of my local petrol stations are out of fuel, but the traffic it is causing is insane!

Exactly this. I literally give zero fucks what ANYONE thinks of me filling my car with petrol. Why the hell would I? Confused It's not like I am rocking up with 100 green petrol cans, and robbing the pumps of way more fuel than I need!
