Just back from putting air in the car tyres and the queue into the forecourt for fuel was ridiculous.

Appreciate it doesn't help that the news bulletins start with" BP closes some petrol stations" and that nobody hears beyond this to "Asda, Morrisons and other supermarkets are saying they have no problems, as have other petrol companies.”

Just stop it.

We need to blame the media.

Yeah, because then alternative is taking responsibility for our own actions and that wouldn’t do, would it?

ellyeth · 25/09/2021 23:22

Having an electric car isn't necessarily a more trouble-free option. They have to be charged and apparently that can be a problem in some areas - and the prices vary enormously.

I don't know anybody who has an electric car.

BabyDereksToes · 26/09/2021 07:52

@Pinkandpink

If There is a shortage, why aren’t they putting a cap on what people are buying?
Our local garage have put a post on FB saying they have no way of capping the pumps so cannot control how much people buy. And I doubt the staff who work there want to get into confrontations about it.
Underamour · 26/09/2021 07:59

I agree with those saying the media have turned a problem into a disaster and I think the government should tell them off. That was pretty irresponsible behaviour. For anyone who says they were just breaking a story- there are many ways to do it such as - 1% of petrol stations have closed but regulators are confident that supplies will increase. Instead of- PETROL SHORTAGES!!!

Seventimesaday · 26/09/2021 08:11

I can’t do my job from home.
I live rurally.
I would need to take a taxi ( which needs fuel) to the nearest train station as there are no buses here. Then a train to one town. Change trains to the nearest station to work, then a 20 minute walk.
Probably 2 hours journey each way.
So yes, I do NEED my car

Wazzzzzzzup · 26/09/2021 08:35

We are in north amd have seen no queues in ANY of the petrol stations we passed yesterday (and that was a lot). Is it just some areas who have proper panic issues still going?

Volterra · 26/09/2021 09:01

I think it is regional. First time I noticed a problem was 17th Sept. when I saw on our local Facebook page someone I know asking where had fuel as she had been to 3 different petrol stations and all had run out.

Bit of a surprise at that point so screenshot it and sent to a friend who is elsewhere to ask if they had problems and she said no.

ElephantOfRisk · 26/09/2021 12:46

We've done a 4 hour round trip this weekend and haven't seen any queues in stations we've passed and some stations with no cars at all. That includes rural and city and motorway stations.

Blossomtoes · 26/09/2021 12:55

My bloke got back from a 70 mile journey at 1am and said he could have driven into any number of deserted petrol stations. So there’s the answer, fill up at midnight.

Fernticket · 26/09/2021 13:18

On Friday, I drove past my local Tesco. Their petrol station had a delivery taking place. 24 hours later, they had run out of fuel. To put it in perspective, a tanker holds around 25,000 litres of fuel.....

Stolengoat · 26/09/2021 13:20

Probably the same selfish idiots who were panic buying for Brexit! Don't know if they will find room to store their petrol, amongst all the toilet rolls?

VanGoSunflowers · 26/09/2021 13:23

So, in my town there are petrol stations with empty forecourts and fuel available…

friendlycat · 26/09/2021 14:19

Well in my rural market town all 3 petrol stations are closed. The BP one has a delivery coming Thursday! There are some cars left in the road saying “out of fuel”. It’s really not great. Nearest petrol station 10 miles and that’s now closed.

So you can see how some people are now forced to go out with neighbours and a can to try and get fuel wherever they possibly can. It’s a mess.

Blossomtoes · 26/09/2021 14:22

There are some cars left in the road saying “out of fuel”

Zero sympathy. Why would you drive on fumes?

Do you not think they'll have managed to have a shit or two since Brexit?

To try and find a petrol station?
Wazzzzzzzup · 26/09/2021 17:30

Was it a rural petrol stations issue more than coty ones? I am curious because while there were queues on Friday, Saturday was just businesses as normal wherever I've seen in cities and by motorways

Blossomtoes · 26/09/2021 17:37

No, if your petrol was as low as that you’d stay at home and wait until there were no queues at the nearest petrol station. It’s sheer stupidity.

I’m fairly rural and we didn’t have any queues at all. However relatives in our nearest city were saying it was carnage.
CruCru · 27/09/2021 09:54

I’m so tired. We have a petrol station at the end of our street and last night cars were queued all the way along, sounding their horns and getting ratty (after midnight on an obviously residential street). The petrol station only got refuelled at Saturday lunchtime and it’s run out again.

Your logic is flawed There a queues in most places unfortunately
sashagabadon · 27/09/2021 11:32

Agree media to blame as per usual. First story on 6am news Thursday morning - Do Not Panic Buy Fuel! - and story ran for the next two days. Talk about turning a problem into a crisis, mountain out of a molehill etc etc.
Mind you extinction rebellion are pleased as if it makes people on short trips to shops/ work/ school run think twice then that’s a positive!

Blossomtoes · 27/09/2021 16:21

No queues today @PlonkyWillyWonky. I’ve just driven past five petrol stations with one or two cars filling up at each. Maybe we have fewer fuckwits here in the east.

Coogee · 27/09/2021 16:22

No queues here.

No fuel either.
