I'm a non-confrontational wuss... how to deal with a parking issue??

For the last 3 weeks we haven't been able to have our bins emptied on a morning.

This is because the new nobber neighbours boyfriend has taken to parking his scrap van right on the end of our very narrow street (which is a cul de sac)This means that anyone turning on or off our street has to be incredibly careful because you can't see if something is coming the other way.

However it also means that the bin wagon can't access our street on bin day.

Nobber neighbour knows this because she has started taking her bin right to the end of the street past nobber boyfriends van so hers will get emptied. This is very annoying!

Nobber boyfriend is quite aggressive so none of us non-nobber neighbours have dared approach nobber boyfriend.

Can't put a note on the van or through their door as they have cctv so will see who it is.

Short of writing a letter and posting it to them (yes I did say I am a non-confrontational wuss) what do we do??

Move your bins to the end of the cul de sac the night before? Speak to the council?

Morph2lcfc · 10/09/2021 08:00

How many other neighbours is it effecting? Is there someone who could be your united voice?

cricketmum84 · 10/09/2021 08:00

Yep my DH has started taking ours and next door neighbours bins to the end but it's a right pain! And none of the other neighbours have cottoned on and still just leave their bins right at the top!

It annoys me though that nobber is getting away with it even though he bloody knows what he is doing!

If the lorry can't get through neither can a fire engine, it's also an environmental issue, you will get rats
Ring the council and let them deal with it

Shakirasma · 10/09/2021 08:02

Speak to the police and report it as an obstruction. If the bin wagon cant access the close, neither can a fire engine.

Outbutnotoutout · 10/09/2021 08:05

Contact the police, fire and council they can explain its causing an obstruction

Failing that burn it 🔥

Chasingsquirrels · 10/09/2021 08:05

Our council has a form for reporting uncollected bins, if you don't want to address it directly with the neighbour keep reporting the uncollected bins to the council and get your neighbours to do the same.

SmokeyDevil · 10/09/2021 08:05

Have it towed. If its blocking a bin lorry, it's blocking access for emergency vehicles. Use that excuse.

Rhinothunder · 10/09/2021 08:06

Put your bin bags on nobber neighbours drive?

Rhinothunder · 10/09/2021 08:06
Grin
tywysoges · 10/09/2021 08:06

Report to the council as obstruction. My local council has a facility to report consistent parking issues, you can submit photos etc. Can you photograph from a distance, without being caught by their cctv?

cricketmum84 · 10/09/2021 08:09

Ah I never knew you could report that to the council! Thank you mumsnet geniuses.

I could take pictures from the window and send them on.

And he's good point about the fire engines too. I hadn't thought of that.

I have been reporting missed collections online but I just get a system generated email telling me they will collect on the normal collection date.

HiveQueen · 10/09/2021 08:10

If there are no parking restrictions in place (yellow lines etc) then I believe the council cannot take any action. Vehicles causing an obstruction that would prevent access for emergency services are, I think, a police matter. I would log something on the online 111 form.

Chasingsquirrels · 10/09/2021 08:13

Ah, our council will send out to do a re-collection if uncollected bins are reported, which would maybe force the issue, but if yours doesn't then that doesn't help.

LannieDuck · 10/09/2021 08:14

Is there any way to request traffic wardens visit a particular street? (Never had to do it, so it may not be possible...)

Disfordarkchocolate · 10/09/2021 08:15

I'd go straight to the council, lack of access for the bin lorry is an issue they can sort.

cricketmum84 · 10/09/2021 08:17

I think I like @Outbutnotoutout suggestion the most so far 😂

EmeraldShamrock · 10/09/2021 08:19

It is a common problem in a cul de sac.
The parker is aware they inconvenience everyone but don't care.
You'd be wasting your breath, stick on note on his van window.
I'd add bells to my bin and bag pots too as I pushed it up the road.

TheFlis12345 · 10/09/2021 08:21

Can you speak to the neighbour while the aggressive boyfriend isn’t there?

tywysoges · 10/09/2021 08:21

Or, yes, you can report to the police. I never know which issues are responsibility of which authority - but if you report to both, I’m sure they will point you in the right direction to get sorted.

ShaunaTheSheep · 10/09/2021 08:22

Contact the waste team and the highways team at the council, and suggest that parking restrictions (yellow lines) are put in. That would stop any parking (although it may not be enforced regularly).

cricketmum84 · 10/09/2021 08:26

@TheFlis12345

Unfortunately I think nobber neighbour is as bad as nobber boyfriend.

I've heard them screaming at each other on a weekend and they like to sit on the drive with nobber mates, cans of lager and loud music on an evening.

Thank god it's almost winter!

Put the bin bags in Nobber's scrap van, obvs Wink

tattychicken · 10/09/2021 08:33

Report on Operation Crackdown, which is for low level driving/parking issues

Genius!

Maybe I could lure him to the house with some scrap and then mention about fire engines not getting through??

A few months ago we got a new dishwasher and put the broken one outside for council bulky waste collection. I swear it had been outside for around 45 seconds before nobber pounced on it. He was like a tramp on a kipper!
