I'm a non-confrontational wuss... how to deal with a parking issue??

cricketmum84 · 10/09/2021 07:57

For the last 3 weeks we haven't been able to have our bins emptied on a morning.

This is because the new nobber neighbours boyfriend has taken to parking his scrap van right on the end of our very narrow street (which is a cul de sac)This means that anyone turning on or off our street has to be incredibly careful because you can't see if something is coming the other way.

However it also means that the bin wagon can't access our street on bin day.

Nobber neighbour knows this because she has started taking her bin right to the end of the street past nobber boyfriends van so hers will get emptied. This is very annoying!

Nobber boyfriend is quite aggressive so none of us non-nobber neighbours have dared approach nobber boyfriend.

Can't put a note on the van or through their door as they have cctv so will see who it is.

Short of writing a letter and posting it to them (yes I did say I am a non-confrontational wuss) what do we do??

My Mum (and her neighbours) have the same problem in their street. Their "binfants" are known as "Mafia" (Banned from some local shops, posh extension and 4x4s, no discernable means of income, at least one is Italian (apologies to nice Italians)).

A call to our council (unitary and local, not the county council) definitely helped. And the bin men themselves actually made a report - they were sick of it and didn't want to be blamed for unemptied bins which weren't their fault.

Hope you get it sorted and there are happier days ahead OP. Love the diagram and the song lyrics. Can I suggest "WHO LET THE NOBS OUT? Who? Who? Who? Who?!" Wink

Can we all meet up for a community Christmas carol sing? Donations can go to Nob-Aid...?

BillMasen · 10/09/2021 10:46

And the award for best supporting diagram in a parking thread goes to…

I felt transported to the scene and immediately understood and empathised. Top work

CambsAlways · 10/09/2021 10:47

Put your bins on nobbers scrap vans bonnet

Mumsnut · 10/09/2021 10:47

Can you / dh park there yourself? Hopefully, the bin van would be able to get past a normal car?

Billandben444 · 10/09/2021 10:49

And you can just report it as not being picked up… they’ll come the next day
But if they can't get through today, they won't be able to tomorrow.
Don't talk to him as he sounds very unpleasant and could be vindictive. Our local fire station gives fire safety advice and I'd be tempted to call yours and voice your concerns from the 'poor little woman in a wheelchair's' point of view and your phobia about fires. See if they'll send someone round to assess the risk of them not gaining access (high) and see if anybody mentions double yellow lines. Don't mention bins or nobby neighbour as it becomes a neighbour dispute in their eyes. Don't mention nobby's wagon as such but you could have a few photos in case he's gone out when they arrive.

fluffedup · 10/09/2021 11:00

Print out all the nobber Christmas songs for the neighbours, then form a carol singing group, knock on the nobber neighbour's door and serenade them.

Immunetypegoblin · 10/09/2021 11:00

@YellowSunshineSky

To the tune of Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer...

Nobber the nobby neighbour
With his very crappy van
Likes to obstruct bin lorries
Because he’s a nob and he can

All of the other neighbours
Used to be annoyed with him
Because the nobby neighbour
Stopped the council emptying their bins

Then one foggy winter’s eve, neighbours came to say…
Nobber with your van so white
Won’t you leave and take your shite?

Then how the neighbours partied
When the nobber moved away
Enjoying their bin lorry access
And peaceful nights and days

OK, this wins!!

OP, I hope you remember this thread at Christmastime and chuckle Grin

cricketmum84 · 10/09/2021 11:03

@Mumsnut

Can you / dh park there yourself? Hopefully, the bin van would be able to get past a normal car?
Only problem with that is DH would then be illegally parked (within 10 metres of the junction) and knowing our luck it would be him that gets ticketed rather than Nobby the Nobber Neighbour!

@HiveQueen

If there are no parking restrictions in place (yellow lines etc) then I believe the council cannot take any action. Vehicles causing an obstruction that would prevent access for emergency services are, I think, a police matter. I would log something on the online 111 form.
You can still get a parking ticket for obstruction even if there are no parking restrictions. It happened to a load of us at a place I worked in - not enough spaces on site so people had to street park and the residents objected. One Friday the wardens had a field day and ticketed everyone, even those sensibly parked like me.

Ah I never knew you could report that to the council! Thank you mumsnet geniuses.

It doesn’t take a genius to know that if your bins aren’t being emptied, you phone the council.

Don't be THAT person.

If you RTFT you would see that I have been reporting the missed bin collections.

What I didn't realise was that parking issues could be reported.

HTH.

As requested.

The sacred MN parking diagram.

Love this! Extra points for the binmen 'shaking their heads in despair' Star Star Star Star Star
Wobblywibblywoo · 10/09/2021 11:47

Are you by any chance in Devon?

Nocutenamesleft · 10/09/2021 11:50

@maddening

1 how close to the junction is the wagon? If less than 10m (check distance think that it is 10m) call police as it is illegally parked.

2 are there any covenants on what can be parked there? Some areas do have these which mean that work vehicles etc cannot be parked there.

  1. When he goes out in his van can you all have a group effort to park all over the street to.prevent his return?

4.call the council and police to see if anything they can do - if bin wagon can't get down neither can fire engine so there may be recourse there.

We’ve got a road. Where people park opposite a junction. It causes all kinds of mayhem. You can’t see past it. To overtake them. Then if you turn the corner. Into the junction. You can’t see past it. Or cars coming down road to junction.

It’s awful.

So many people have tried to sort it. But people don’t do shit.

Tallisimo · 10/09/2021 11:58

Complain to the council. Their refuse collection team should be reporting that they can’t get down the road.

GADDay · 10/09/2021 12:04

I think you need to solidly woman up.

The next time the bin lorry can't get through knock on their door and ask them to move. Do it every time without fail.

Alternatively just use their wheelie bins.

tootiredtospeak · 10/09/2021 12:09

Just speak to her and say if your boyfriend insists on blocking the road so the bin lorry cant come on. You or him need to take everyone's bins to the end each day. If you dont I will report it to the council or police. Fuck them entitled idiots

Aprilinspringtimeshower · 10/09/2021 12:22

@Theunamedcat

BRIIIING OUT THOSE BINS TONIGHT! CAUSE MAYHEM CAUSE MAYHEM
🤣
IveGotASongThatllGetOnYNerves · 10/09/2021 12:28

@Flobbertybillop - I agree!
Its even worse because the same post actually says
"I have been reporting missed collections online but I just get a system generated email telling me they will collect on the normal collection date."

🤣

BoredZelda · 10/09/2021 12:30

Clearly. What’s your excuse?

What I didn't realise was that parking issues could be reported.

Doesn’t take a genius to work that out either.

Bollindger · 10/09/2021 12:37

You so need to park oppersite on the road, so he can't .
But failing that , go ask at the Police station, as your not allowed to park within 15 feet of a corner.
