I'm a non-confrontational wuss... how to deal with a parking issue??

For the last 3 weeks we haven't been able to have our bins emptied on a morning.

This is because the new nobber neighbours boyfriend has taken to parking his scrap van right on the end of our very narrow street (which is a cul de sac)This means that anyone turning on or off our street has to be incredibly careful because you can't see if something is coming the other way.

However it also means that the bin wagon can't access our street on bin day.

Nobber neighbour knows this because she has started taking her bin right to the end of the street past nobber boyfriends van so hers will get emptied. This is very annoying!

Nobber boyfriend is quite aggressive so none of us non-nobber neighbours have dared approach nobber boyfriend.

Can't put a note on the van or through their door as they have cctv so will see who it is.

Short of writing a letter and posting it to them (yes I did say I am a non-confrontational wuss) what do we do??

The day before bin day, one of you park your car there before he arrives and then move it late at night. Sorted!

Brefugee · 10/09/2021 08:38

where is he actually putting the van? IIRC you are not allowed to park within 15 metres of a corner (but that may be here in Germany, it's a long time since i did my UK test)

And just call the council. Birdseed on the van (that pigeons like) so they crap all over it?

I feel a diagram may be needed 😂

Same problem here. Council and police did nothing, even though it was the council's bin lorry that couldn't manoeuvre around. It's a moron car dealer who stores his vehicles on the public highway. There were eleven at one stage, so no parking for anyone else. And another aggressive bloke and his felonious son.

maddening · 10/09/2021 08:46

1 how close to the junction is the wagon? If less than 10m (check distance think that it is 10m) call police as it is illegally parked.

2 are there any covenants on what can be parked there? Some areas do have these which mean that work vehicles etc cannot be parked there.

  1. When he goes out in his van can you all have a group effort to park all over the street to.prevent his return?

4.call the council and police to see if anything they can do - if bin wagon can't get down neither can fire engine so there may be recourse there.

Besides the point but your expression 'non nobber neighbours gave me a giggle Grin

2pinkginsplease · 10/09/2021 08:48

I’d be surrounding nobber neighbours van with the full streets bins each week until he decided he being a dick and parks elsewhere!

Immunetypegoblin · 10/09/2021 08:59

Bit unseasonal but I'm now sat here humming 'Nobber neighbour, nobber neighbour' to the tune of 'Little Donkey'. I've got as far as the next line ('You are such a TWAT') but would welcome suggestions on progression Grin

MyPatronusIsACat · 10/09/2021 09:00

Report it to the council @cricketmum84 If bigger vehicles cannot access the cul de sac, this neighbour is pretty much breaking the law. Who the fuck does he think he is? Confused He is a bully and he KNOWS what he's doing.

Ring the council and report it. They will keep your name out of it.

And YANBU to not want confrontation. Many people don't like it. Flowers

You need to get together with all your other neighbours and you must all report it to both 111 and the council. When it's just one report, it can easily be ignored but when it's lots all saying the same, they're sure to take action.

Good luck!

LemonFantaGin · 10/09/2021 09:04

I live in a cul de sac and have this issue all the time, I just complain to council/company evety time, with photos until issue is resolved, no fun for delivery drivers either when they are having to cart things up because of people parking in considerately and buggering off for the day.

Complain to the council, an ambulance could struggle to get past too.

pussycatlickinglollyices · 10/09/2021 09:07

Reporting to your local Fire Station will probably have faster results than the Council.

Weegiewtf · 10/09/2021 09:10

Can you not surround his van with all the neighbourhood bins?

Pennineway2021 · 10/09/2021 09:10

I know this won't necessarily solve your problem but you can get them privately emptied for £25 each bin. I sometimes have to do this when the binvan comes at 6 am and I've not put it out yet.
Google waste deposal.

I wish more people knew this and then we could have cleaner environments and less apathy leading to rats.

steppemum · 10/09/2021 09:10

@FannyBrice

If the lorry can't get through neither can a fire engine, it's also an environmental issue, you will get rats Ring the council and let them deal with it
this.

Don;t try and deal with aggressive boyfriend, get council to sort it.

(although a fire engine will just crash cras out of the way if necessary)

😆

OP, I'm pretty good at standing up for myself but, IME, there is just no point with this sort of idiot. If he is enough of a nobber to park like this this, he isn't going to change, just because you ask him to. He'll probably escalate his nobbery, if anything.

With a bit of luck, he'll split up with your neighbour soon. In the meantime, I agree with PPs saying to report to the police/council as a dangerous obstruction.

@Theunamedcat you've made my day already! Too funny!

OP I agree with others - confronting him will probably just escalate things unfortunately. Can you try PCSO? I live somewhere by a school and they will occasionally patrol around school times (not that it stops people parking like dicks every other day)

Boombadoom · 10/09/2021 09:14

Call the council. They will send letters to the whole street

BrilloPaddy · 10/09/2021 09:15

We had a nightmare with our opposite neighbour who had a 2 space drive and 5 cars. So they'd park directly opposite our drive, meaning we couldn't turn in and out as ours is on an angle. We knocked politely, saying we couldn't get out etc but they still kept parking there in spite of being perfectly able to park elsewhere.

So we stopped using the drive and parked where they did. Problem solved!
