I'm a non-confrontational wuss... how to deal with a parking issue??

For the last 3 weeks we haven't been able to have our bins emptied on a morning.

This is because the new nobber neighbours boyfriend has taken to parking his scrap van right on the end of our very narrow street (which is a cul de sac)This means that anyone turning on or off our street has to be incredibly careful because you can't see if something is coming the other way.

However it also means that the bin wagon can't access our street on bin day.

Nobber neighbour knows this because she has started taking her bin right to the end of the street past nobber boyfriends van so hers will get emptied. This is very annoying!

Nobber boyfriend is quite aggressive so none of us non-nobber neighbours have dared approach nobber boyfriend.

Can't put a note on the van or through their door as they have cctv so will see who it is.

Short of writing a letter and posting it to them (yes I did say I am a non-confrontational wuss) what do we do??

@Hibiscusroses

Move your bins to the end of the cul de sac the night before? Speak to the council?
That's just a short-term solution - and what if any of the neighbours have a disability which means they can't drag a bin very far (and they must be getting heavy now . . . )

It also means that emergency services couldn't get through it necessary.

I'd contact the council, or even the police. You can park on a public road, but not block it.

FreezerBird · 10/09/2021 09:18

Ahem...

Nobber neighbour, nobber neighbour
You are such a twat!
You stop the bin men doing their work
When you park like that!
Nobber neighbour, nobber neighbour,
Been a long old day.
Time to get in, to your van and
Simply drive away!

We bring out our bins tonight
MOVE THAT VAN
MOVE THAT VAN

etc

SchadenfreudePersonified · 10/09/2021 09:21

I feel a diagram may be needed

Damn right!

(Use coloured pens if you have them please. It's always more aesthetically pleasing. But monochrome is also very acceptable.)

Tlollj · 10/09/2021 09:23

I wasn’t going to answer because NO DIAGRAM.but I love ‘like a trampoline on a kipper so you’re forgiven.
Call the council surely. Everyone in the cul de sac call the council.

Does she put her bin out the night before?
If so then sneak out in the middle of the night and put it far enough back so the rubbish truck won't empty it

Staryflight445 · 10/09/2021 09:28

Non emergency police line will be helpful. Many of these vehicles aren’t taxed or insured either which will help in your favour 😉

@SchadenfreudePersonified I didn't mention this is my OP but I do actually have a disability and use a wheelchair. It's fine though as big strong DH puts the bins out or failing that the 17 year old will do it. But yes if someone lived alone with a disability they would really struggle!

Bit unseasonal but I'm now sat here humming 'Nobber neighbour, nobber neighbour' to the tune of 'Little Donkey'. I've got as far as the next line ('You are such a TWAT') but would welcome suggestions on progression Grin

Jumpingintosummer · 10/09/2021 09:41

Absolutely call the council and complain. He sounds like a complete twat.

travailtotravel · 10/09/2021 09:42

Of course, council, police etc etc are ther correct routes.

Otherwise, Operation Box Clever should kick in. WIth all the other neighbours this impacts and all of you take your bins to the end of the road and block his van in. Leave them there after the bin men have been. Give him the inconvenience of managing the situation.

So long as all your bins are numbered you should get them all back. Take a pic when you have done it though because if he kicks off, you will need a bit of a trail to back you up and to show that you haven't done anything untoward. You shouldn't need to do that, but you know, Nobbers.

Therealjudgejudy · 10/09/2021 09:43

Brilliant diagram 👍

fruitbrewhaha · 10/09/2021 09:43

Rule 243 of the Highway Code states you must not park opposite or within 10 metres (32 feet) of a junction, except in an authorised parking space.

Get him ticketed.

CottonSock · 10/09/2021 09:44

Get a parking warden round sharpish (assuming you live in a town). Then ring back every time he does it.

2nd verse

Nobber neighbour, nobber neighbour
Don’t be a dick!
Got to get all our bins emptied
Before we get sick!
Nobber neighbour, nobber neighbour
Let the bin en through
If it wasn’t for your cctv we would all egg you!

DobbyTheHouseElk · 10/09/2021 09:45

How do the other NDN bins get emptied and why aren’t you all complaining to council/police about lack of services and emergency vehicles access

Leftbutcameback · 10/09/2021 09:46

I’m sorry for your troubles, but also this thread is amazing. I’ll be humming that song all day. I used to live in a similar type of road and the Fire Service came round to check if they could get down. I don’t know if it was because someone reported it. They couldn’t so left notes on all the badly parked cars. Bins are a pain, but if blue light services can’t access it would be much worse.

We have the same issues on our close now that new neighbours have moved in next door. Have a drive, but park their cars on the close - right out in the road, opposite each other, so you can barely get a smart car between them, to cause the most obstruction possible. And then one right on the sharp bend out of the close, so you cant see if anything is coming and have to go onto the other side of the road to get round the corner. So far this month I've had an Argos delivery and two Tesco deliveries where the drivers have had to carry it all up from the bottom of the road.

Nice next door neighbour on the other side of me pointed out to selfish neighbour that an ambulance or fire engine wouldn't be able to get past their cars, and he just stared at him and walked off. My house is going on the market in a couple of months, and I am going to look for somewhere that's not on a housing estate as the parking issues here over the past few years have driven me mad.

I've not found the council at all helpful despite pointing out the dangers of their parking on corners and blocking the road totally. They just told me to have a chat with them and hopefully they'll realise they're causing an issue.
