They are good for curries if you marinate them first. Otherwise yuck

CaptMorgan · 08/09/2021 20:36

Sliced and pan fried as part of a full English instead of hash browns!!
Never thought to roast them before, that's a new idea for the weekend

Firstdateshotel · 08/09/2021 20:37

I'm trying fried tomorrow and reporting back!

Love them!

My toddler loves them in tomato and hidden veg pasta, from a jar!

Must try them roasted or fried asap

Hendersonsisnotrelish · 08/09/2021 20:37

Pasta sauce that is

cushioncovers · 08/09/2021 20:38

Love tinned potatoes. Fry in butter with salt,black pepper, garlic and onion granules.

AdaColeman · 08/09/2021 20:38

A great store cupboard stand by.

I make them into Russian salad with vegetables and German sausages and mustard mayonnaise, or add them to thick vegetable soups.

Slothkin · 08/09/2021 20:38

Chicken in white sauce with rice and a big knob of butter was important recovery food when I’d been ill!

SoloISland · 08/09/2021 20:39

Hmmmmm. Would love to try them but would not dare ask for them here in IRELAND.. Potato capital of the world.. Never seen them here. And they would be so useful in case of being cut off in storms out here on the island. The only other is instant mash..

user098683 · 08/09/2021 20:39

Camping holidays = tinned spuds and tinned mince. Eaten off a plastic plate of course. YUM!

EssentiallyDisorganised · 08/09/2021 20:39

@SomebodysMum

They are some of the worst things in the world
This.

Ohh that would be sacrilegious!

Does the Brand matter? Smart price tinned potatoes were a nightmare food of my childhood lol 🤮 that was 20 years ago now though, still remember them as bland boiled oval potatoes!

HeronLanyon · 08/09/2021 20:40

I e only had them once (other than school dinners I’m guessing). Only a few years ago. Mine were really awful. Too soft and tasted really strange. Shame as I did think I’d have some tins in for ‘emergency nights’.

ODFOx · 08/09/2021 20:41

@sluj

Never mind tinned potatoes, I have been fantasising about tinned cream. Smile Anyone remember that?
I had forgotten tinned cream until I tasted mascarpone: exactly the same top temperature and exactly the same degree of protein agglutination for the same consistency (if you rss as n the excess water off tinned cream instead of stirring it in.

Does anyone else remember tinned potato salad or tinned vegetable salad? Or even tinned prawns: we tried to get them for the food bank but all this stuff is gone since the accessibility of home freezers.

HeronLanyon · 08/09/2021 20:41

I love making mashed potato. I also thing ‘idahoan’ instant mash is not too bad.

maddiemookins16mum · 08/09/2021 20:44

Not had them since 1975 with tinned meatballs.

MrsMaizel · 08/09/2021 20:44

@Slothkin

I absolutely love them - lovely memories of caravan holidays when I was little! See also M&S chicken in white sauce in a tin.
We eat this chicken in a baked potato - love it !

@Jaffacakeinmypocket

I love them but don't know anyone else that thinks they are delicious 😂 I still miss Heinz tinned potato salad and vegetable salad from the late 70s/early 80s
I make my own version of Heinz Vegetable Salad... it's called Russian Salad. Loads of recipes for it on BBC Good Food etc... Many folk make it with tinned potatoes, carrots and peas. It's a crowd pleaser at our house.

This is taking me back to Boxing Day tea at my Grandma's house. Tinned prawns and salmon with salad and Blackpool milk roll, followed by tinned fruit and tinned cream. She always had sterilised milk as well which my mum hated and pretended for years that she didn't drink tea or coffee.
FlibbertyGibbitt · 08/09/2021 20:47

I’d like to bring tinned carrots to this thread. They are yum… (childhood dinners)

MrsMaizel · 08/09/2021 20:50

Memories of my Grandmother - tinned salmon the height of luxury and tinned mixed cocktail and the cream whipped up with sugar . This was pre fridge days for her .

armanted · 08/09/2021 20:51

Special visitor's tea in the 60's. Tinned salmon sandwiches, then tinned peaches with tinned cream. No wonder we had a wall mounted can opener.

Red salmon or pink salmon?

We never had red!!

Pixie2015 · 08/09/2021 20:54

Tinned pots and M&S white chicken were my childhood caravan holidays too - don’t think I could eat them now!
