It’s a no from me, never liked them.

CorianderBee · 08/09/2021 20:55

Chuck them in hot oil and they're great quick roasties

MrsMaizel · 08/09/2021 20:56

@RazorSharp yes pink I think .

BigSandyBalls2015 · 08/09/2021 20:57

Amazing in the slow cooker in a curry. Or a frittata.

zombielady · 08/09/2021 20:58

No! That's all I'm saying.

Niffler92 · 08/09/2021 20:58

Perfect camping food I do tinned potatoes, tinned ratatouille and lentils great one pot dinner.

Bollindger · 08/09/2021 20:58

Nothing beats little fresh New Potatoes.
Warm with a touch of butter and parsley.

IngridTails · 08/09/2021 20:59

I use them when I'm camping to make corned beef hash. With tinned peas and carrots. I do push the boat out and fry a real fresh onion though.

Pandoraslastchance · 08/09/2021 21:00

@ButForTheGrace

2 tins sliced and fried with onions, whack in a tin of chopped corned beef, serve with a fried egg, baked beans and think slices of bread and butter. A staple camping meal for our family
Oh yes this is delicious 😋

Might try them in a curry or as bombay potato.

MintyGreenDream · 08/09/2021 21:00

Remind me of my grans dinners

suredsun · 08/09/2021 21:01

I recall one of the TV chefs - Nigella Lawson maybe? - raving about them too.

Belledan1 · 08/09/2021 21:01

I hate them but DH likes them. Actually bought some today as back in the office 2 days a week and a quick meal for him to make himself. He works shifts . Has with cooked beef and some veg.

IngridTails · 08/09/2021 21:03

They are also ideal for making this

I'd never had them until a sunday lunch at my aunt's when about 8 or 9. Mum said she could have killed me for the face I pulled and saying "what the heck are these??!".

CaptaNoctem · 08/09/2021 21:06

@AuntLydiasNewHairdo

Do M&S still do that chicken in white sauce? Fond memories but for the life of me I can't remember what my mother did with it.
If she was anything like mine it went in a vol au vent.

I haven’t had tinned potatoes for decades but I remember hating them. Nasty texture and somewhat slimy

SoftSheen · 08/09/2021 21:08

They remind me of childhood camping holidays.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 08/09/2021 21:10

So instead of buying potatoes and preparing them, you take a detour via the food processing and packaging industries?

MeltedCheeseonTop · 08/09/2021 21:12

@Mull

They are IMMENSE in a curry! I’ve tried with other potatoes but they disintegrate.
YES!!! I bloody love them. And tinned carrots!
Youdoyoutoday · 08/09/2021 21:12

@pigsDOfly

Really? Well they must have changed somewhat since I last had them, admittedly, some years ago.

Tasteless and watery, with an odd sort of texture somewhere between soggy and hard - difficult to explain, but not a good thing - and bearing absolutely no relationship to 'real' potatoes.

Now this is what I remember them being like but it seems we both might need to be brave and try them again!! @KhoshkaKatya recipe sounds quite delicious 😋

I do both. FFS.
BabbleBee · 08/09/2021 21:15

Particularly delicious if fried on a camping trip!

GreenTortoise · 08/09/2021 21:16

I refuse to try them. I was once as a kid given meatballs from a can 🤮. So when I've seen potatoes in a tin my mind goes straight to them for some strange reason.

saraclara · 08/09/2021 21:17

@sluj

Never mind tinned potatoes, I have been fantasising about tinned cream. Smile Anyone remember that?
OMG. I loved that stuff. And I'd prefer it to fresh even now if I could get it. The 'tinny' element made it less fatty and claggy somehow. And the thickness...
MyCatHatesEverybody · 08/09/2021 21:19

Can anyone recommend what brand of tinned potatoes is best please (or what to avoid)? Or are they all much of a muchness?

SirVixofVixHall · 08/09/2021 21:21

I love them sliced and fried. Yum . I must buy some.
