Anyone got any Adult DC with no tattoos

flexandimpress · 02/09/2021 16:38

Has anyone got any young adult children who don't have tattoos and don't like them. My DS who is 21 said that he's never getting a tattoo as he doesn't like them. It made wonder how common are tattoos nowadays?

OP posts:

DS (21) has one small one
DD (24) has none and wouldn't waste her money.

I wouldn’t waste my money on alcohol or chocolate - neither of which I personally like, but I don’t suppose it’s a waste to people who enjoy them. I guess you could say the same about tattoos really, don’t you think?
Lincslady53 · 02/09/2021 22:02

I have a DS and a DD, both in their 30s, both tattooless, and both think they are unsightly and a waste of money

LopsidedWombat · 02/09/2021 22:04

Out of everyone I know who are aged 18-70 I can only think of two people (aged 35 and 42) who don't have at least one. They both dislike them. I have a couple, for many years wanted a sleeve and a few random ones dotted about but glad I never did it as I feel entirely apathetic about tattoos these days.

@lazylinguist

I love reading all the comments insulting people with tattoos

I've just rtft. Out of 246 posts I noticed about 3 or 4 that could maybe be described as insulting to people with tattoos. The vast majority who are anti are just saying they don't personally like them, or think that people might regret getting them. That's neither insulting nor pearl-clutching.

It may not be outward insulting, but some of the smug posts like 'my kids don't have any thankfully' and 'they wouldn't waste their money' do come across as insulting.
KohlaParasanda · 02/09/2021 22:06

Two of my adult DC (30 and 27) have no tattoos and don't see the point of body art. Waste of money, what if I hate it in ten years' time, all the usual reasons. My other DC all have several tattoos. One of them has put a lot of thought into the designs and positions of her artwork and they're beautiful. Two of the girls had lots of piercings in their teens, but have removed most of them over the years. Tattoos are so commonplace that I hardly notice them nowadays.

Well yeah it would be a waste of money if you had one as you don't like it want one. But my last one is the best money I have spent on myself in years.
addictedtotheflats · 02/09/2021 22:07

Myself and my brother are the adults DCs and both have no tattoos (early 30's) we dont plan on getting any either

Kassalah · 02/09/2021 22:09

@Samcro

Ds has loads Dd none, but she has sn
What's sn? Have googled but can't find out.
Warmduscher · 02/09/2021 22:16

@DrManhattan

Mine don't have any as they find them a bit basic these days lol
They know you can get intricate tattoos, don’t they? You just have to ask for one.

Both my DC have tattoos and they are lovely.

RufustheBadgeringReindeer · 02/09/2021 22:19

What's sn? Have googled but can't find out

Usually means special needs.

Bluntness100 · 02/09/2021 22:22

None of us have any, husband, 24 year old daughter or me.

PattyPan · 02/09/2021 22:28

chavvy (derived from Council House & Violent)

It’s not - that’s a backronym. The word actually predates council houses.

Theoldprospector · 02/09/2021 22:28

Mine don’t have them.

It seemed most popular among people who in their early thirties now, not young people.

Tattoo sleeves seem very dated now. I wonder what the new tattoo trend is.

everythingbutthesink · 02/09/2021 22:29

Me and my oh have tattoos and a lot of them specially OH! Oldest dc 21&20 don't have any! Oldest has mentioned it an we said we would pay for one for him when he's 100% certain and by someone we know is good. But never mentioned it since?

MissTrip82 · 02/09/2021 22:33

Really interesting to read that people have a friendship circle where nearly everyone has one. I have a friendship circle where I don’t think anybody does.

Must be one of those things where you think you can guage how many people have one but actually you’re not getting a clear picture at all.

Pottedpalm · 02/09/2021 22:34

Neither of mine have any. The majority of their friends and social circle don’t either.

Maray1967 · 02/09/2021 22:38

DS1 (early 20s) doesn’t have one, or at least not anywhere not covered by shorts! He knows that if he has one he will be paying his own way through uni. That’s the one bit of control I have to make him at least delay and think about it but he’s never said he wants one. I don’t think his girlfriend has one either.

CheapFoodShits · 02/09/2021 22:44

I don't have adult DC but I am someone's adult DC and I don't have any, nor do I plan on getting any.

YukoandHiro · 02/09/2021 23:01

I have two tattoos but will be gutted if my daughters get them. Even though I don't hate mine. The irony.

ChampionOfTheSun · 02/09/2021 23:03

I don't have any tattoos, nor does DH. But both of us have siblings who have tattoos. I would have one but can't commit to it, I prefer piercings which I can remove if don't want them any more Grin

scarpa · 02/09/2021 23:11

At my workplace (15 people), everyone except 2 people has at least one tattoo. Most aged 22-35, couple of early 40s people. The two that don't have any are 25 and 26, but there are a few younger that do, so no real age correlation there!

I'd say 85% of people I'm friends with have them (early 30s), ranging from a small one to full sleeves etc.

I think tattoos, like most things, can be beautiful or hideous, depending on whether you get it done pissed in Kavos or go to an experienced artist and work on the design you want.

I've got 3, with my next one booked in for October, and I love them so much - when I got my last one and saw a glimpse in the mirror I felt more like myself than ever Smile

BigFatLiar · 02/09/2021 23:18

Neither of us have tattoo's and neither of the girls have tattoos (or their husbands). Always thought they were a bit naff. DH comes from a place associated with military and has always associated them with drunken squaddies.

I think you’re wrong to think there are trends amongst everyone who has a tattoo.

My DC get tattoos of images they like, not images that everyone else has.
