Anyone got any Adult DC with no tattoos

flexandimpress · 02/09/2021 16:38

Has anyone got any young adult children who don't have tattoos and don't like them. My DS who is 21 said that he's never getting a tattoo as he doesn't like them. It made wonder how common are tattoos nowadays?

Thing is, my mum doesn't like tattoos and would happily tell you none of her children have them. But we all do! Just in places she can't see.

DH has one that none of his family know about either, but I think that's just because it's never come up rather than deliberate subterfuge.

I'm 30 and none of my friends have tattoos. I've got one in mind that I'd like but I'd want it somewhere unobtrusive like my ribs/hip so I'll wait until I'm done having babies so it doesn't get stretched out of shape.

RantyAunty · 03/09/2021 04:56

My DD has some. DS(30) doesn't have any. DGS(21) doesn't have any

Balonzette · 03/09/2021 06:20

I honestly don't know anyone between the ages of 20-35 who doesn't have a tattoo.

Lightisnotwhite · 03/09/2021 06:57

@Warmduscher - nice backpedaling. You should join a circus.

I think the young people I know with tattoos are females ranging from quite posh to pretty rough. It seems to have dropped in popularity with boys now.
Large obvious tattoos look dated as so many people got them in their 20’s 10 or so years ago.

DS1 (early 20s) doesn’t have one, or at least not anywhere not covered by shorts! He knows that if he has one he will be paying his own way through uni. That’s the one bit of control I have to make him at least delay and think about it but he’s never said he wants one. I don’t think his girlfriend has one either

Can just see the future threads now. 'why has my son and SIL moved grandchild a 6 hour drive away and never rings'

@znaika

Am amazed that people don't think tattoos are a fashion and can date, nineties celtic crosses, tribal symbols and chinese characters- noone would get those now but were edgy at the time, what about stars and butterflies from 2000s? tattoo art and fashion has evolved but it's definitely on its way out, it will no doubt be back in 2-3 decades
The quality of the typical tattoo has improved massively since they first became really mainstream in the 90s, so that dates many older tattoos too (obviously older ones fade, but I'm talking about the design and execution).
EmeraldShamrock · 03/09/2021 07:33

The 1 who does not drink, smoke or have tatoos has a gf with so many tattoos, and piercings.
At least he judges tattoos as a personal choice and not a tramp stamp mentioned by a pp as they're medical colleagues call tattoo's tramp stamped.
It is sad professional educated people have such a low opinion of people from a less affluent area with tattoos, when most w. c people highly respect educated medical professionals if they knew how unprofessional and judgemental they were towards us they wouldn't.

This is what makes me laugh at all the smug 'too much sense' 'they say they're a waste of money' unless they strip search them on entry they may not actually know

I think you need to look up the definition of “back-pedalling”.

@Warmduscher
Yay we got there in the end.

MissMogwai · 03/09/2021 08:04

My eldest daughter has a couple, she's almost 20. I like them, they are very pretty.
My younger daughter isn't 18 yet but she says she wants one too.

I don't have any, nor does my husband. Some friends/family our age have one or two, but most have none. We're all over 40.

Once our DC are adults it's nothing to do with us, unless they want you to pay!

All I said to my DD was bear in mind it's there for ever, so make sure it's exactly what you want - she's a grown woman who works and lives in her own home.

Not sure what you mean by this, but I’m glad you’re happy.

lap90 · 03/09/2021 08:12

I'm in my early 30s... no tattoos... although I did want one at some point, then became quite against the idea of it all.

Some peers have tattoos (largely discrete), others have larger tattoos all over.

I don’t know if it’s any consolation warmdusher but ive no idea how youve ‘backpedaled’ either

znaika · 03/09/2021 08:33

Fwiw its worth i think lots of tattoos look great. Im not anti them. But surely the people with half sleeves/ full sleeves/ inner arm small tattoos/back of neck/ behind ear etc know that's its a mid 2010s thing to do. and as such younger folk arent into it.

Somethings are better left as an unsolved mystery Grin

I love my 3.
My favourite is on my inner forearm an infinity band representing my love towards and from my DM, unbreakable even through death.
I love that I'm tramp stamped with it forever. ❤

floss1 · 03/09/2021 08:54

I’m one of four and we’re in our 40’s - no tattoos or any thoughts of having one!

Out of interest - how much would a sleeve cost on a man’s arm, incorporating covering up old ones please?

KimWexlersPonyTail · 03/09/2021 09:35

Tatts can give a good indication of someone's age, I guess with clothes and hair you can change but you can only over ink a tatt so many times.

There are quite a few things about a person’s appearance that can give an indication of age and are probably more accurate than trying to date their tattoos!

Cheapest solution would be to cut a sleeve off an old cardie.
notacooldad · 03/09/2021 11:44

I am not anti tattoos.
I just can think of anything that I want.
Once I supported a young adult who wanted a tattoo. I didnt wantvto talk her out if having one because that's not my role but I wanted her to choose wisely. She wanted the name of someone moderately famous in a rock band. It isnt always a good idea to have the na.es if celebrities as no one knows what the future holds and she will be stuck with that name on her. Fortunately she listened and chose something like a moon and stars which she was made up with.
A few years later the celebrity was charged with a horrific crime and still in prison. He is a POS.

Tootyfilou · 03/09/2021 11:48

Neither of my adult DC has them. Slightly surprised that DS hasn’t got any, can’t imagine DD ever having one !
