Anyone got any Adult DC with no tattoos

flexandimpress · 02/09/2021 16:38

Has anyone got any young adult children who don't have tattoos and don't like them. My DS who is 21 said that he's never getting a tattoo as he doesn't like them. It made wonder how common are tattoos nowadays?

OP posts:

2 of mine are adults. Neither are interested in getting a tattoo (though my 19 yo has learning disabilities so I'm not sure it's something he'd even think about. Actually, I've just asked him and he wants a yoshi egg and traffic light tattoos. He doesn't really understand how you get a tattoo though, not sure he'd deal with more than a minute of it!)

I got my first one a couple of years ago when I was 43. I'm currently planning my second.

I really wouldn't care if any of my kids got them, as long as they considered them carefully and I'd probably not like it if they got ones on their face.

tttigress · 02/09/2021 20:27

I thought seriously about getting one in the late 90s/early 2000s, but didn't go through with it.

I do wonder if we have hit "peak tattoo", as so many people have them now, surely the only direction you can go from there is to have none?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 02/09/2021 20:31

My DC are 21 (DS) and 19(DD)
DS isn't a fan of tattoos or piercings
DD has lobe and belly button , did have helix and tragus but taken out . She would like a tattoo but she knows there are permanent (unlike piercings) and in her career choice not accepted .

My DH has 4 tattoos
I have pierced ears and a tattoo (small)

Iamanunsafebuilding · 02/09/2021 20:34

DS (22) has 5, DD (19) has none!

StoneofDestiny · 02/09/2021 20:42

Mine have no tattoos and don't want them - thankfully

sneezybreezy · 02/09/2021 20:44

My son doesn't, I do.

Body modification is either your thing, or it's not.

sneezybreezy · 02/09/2021 20:48

I love reading all the comments insulting people with tattoos, amusing regardless, but also makes me want more. 😂

This thread inspired me to while away some time on a dull conference call with my fineliner, drawing options for a cuticle inking 😊

MilkywayMonarch22 · 02/09/2021 20:54

28 and don't have any. DH 30 and none either.

Wrenna · 02/09/2021 20:57

Ds is 20 and no tattoos. If I’d make a big thing about it he’d probably go get one. He mentioned it once and I told him it’s his body just go somewhere reputable and that took the wind out of his sails and he is still tattoo less.

DerAlteMann · 02/09/2021 20:58

One out of two.

Mollymalone123 · 02/09/2021 21:10

DS 31 and DD 27 don’t and have no interest and DD 33 has two small ones from when she was 18 and now wishes she hadn’t bothered.

Lol at tattoos looking dated
I’m in my 40s and have 5. I still love them all although hsve had one recoloured
Teen dd has two. Ds isn’t keen
Isn't that kind of the point? You, as an older person love them, your kids are 50/50, they are becoming dated looking to many, precisely because they are something many older people have. Like Facebook and brass light fixtures.

No, DS isn’t keen because he doesn’t like needles but hasn’t really expressed a like or dislike or the aesthetic of tattoos.
He’s not interested in clothes or fashion either but presumably they aren’t becoming dated?

Chicchicchicchiclana · 02/09/2021 21:11

It was interesting to see that not many on Love Island had tattoos this year. Jake, Abi, Danny and I think maybe Tyler? (not sure can't quite remember). But the majority of Love Islanders who are all 19 to 26ish didn't have them.

Onthegrid · 02/09/2021 21:18

Neither of mine have, and say they don’t want them, it would be their choice, but nobody in the family have them. Piercings they both have many in their ears and DD also has a nose but nowhere else as she doesn’t fancy it.

MrsSkylerWhite · 02/09/2021 21:19

Ours think they’re horrible.

Grapewrath · 02/09/2021 21:21

I think also lots of young people love island age so late teens would have struggled to get tattoos over the past 18 months too. Obviously covid shut down most artists and many therefore have long waiting lists.
I know DDs was booked 6 months in advance

Hairbrush123 · 02/09/2021 21:22

I’m 25 and I have no tattoos. My partner is 34 and he doesn’t have any tattoos. None of my friends except one have tattoos. They personally aren’t for me but wouldn’t judge anyone for having some. I do think it’s becoming rarer to not have a tattoo than having a tattoo…

Grapewrath · 02/09/2021 21:24

I find it interesting though how some people find them so awful? There are some really strong reactions to tattoos on Mumsnet that I’ve never heard in RL, other than in my own parents generation ( in their 70s)

iolaus · 02/09/2021 21:26

50%

One has no piercings or tattoos

Her younger sister has two tattoos and a several piercings (piercings started from 16 - well 6 for her ears - and was asking for her belly button from even younger)

Yaaaas
Kinkybutkind · 02/09/2021 21:29

47 and I have three (one shoulder/back -beautiful and recently done ) along with a number of piercings, facial, naval and other more intimate. Eldest 27 has three or four, next at 25 has a couple too… I’m in a well paid, professional role and frankly find the phrase “chavvy” (derived from Council House & Violent) really offensive in reference to anyone Inked or not !

GrandTheftWalrus · 02/09/2021 21:29

I saw the tattoo I wanted when I was 13 and in the tattoo parlour getting my nose peirced. When I turned 18 I got it about 2 weeks later.

Parents never said a word and they would've been hypocrites if they did as my dad has lots and my mum has 2.

I also have my tongue and tragus peirced. I used to have nose, eyebrow and navel as well. I am also after a scaffold piercing but I think I'd rather have another tattoo.

lazylinguist · 02/09/2021 21:31

I've just rtft. Out of 246 posts I noticed about 3 or 4 that could maybe be described as insulting to people with tattoos. The vast majority who are anti are just saying they don't personally like them, or think that people might regret getting them. That's neither insulting nor pearl-clutching.

Thadhiya · 02/09/2021 21:41

@VapeVamp12

To some of the parents on here saying their kids don't have any. I am 35, I have seven tattoos and my parents have never seen any of them!
Ha, same I'm 38 and never telling my parents, it'd finish them off. Whole upper arm sleeve and she never asks why I've always got a jacket on :p
Wrennie24 · 02/09/2021 21:43

Adult daughters aged between 21-27. No tattoos thankfully.
