Letchy fucking men

I don’t think IABU but I’m due on so might be over reacting.

I wore shorts today because it’s warm here, not proper short, shorts, probably two or three inches above the knee, I walked somewhere - about 3 mile round trip. I’m just fed up of letchy men, I can ignore staring, and someone smiling and saying hello is friendly and nice but people slowing down to comment or make the sort of noise you make to call an animal. What the fuck is wrong with them. I felt genuinely intimidated at one point and I’m a nigh on 50year old grandmother, I changed my intended route on the way back because I felt too scared to walk along a footpath. I hate to think how teenage girls feel and what their experience is.

Perhaps naively I thought the world had moved on.

YANBU. Please can you add aggressive fucking men to the list, those who get butt hurt when you overtake them safely abs those who expect you to give way to them everywhere, on the footpath, in the supermarket aisle - everywhere!

@phishy there's nothing pathetic about asking for more information... what's pathetic is attacking 50% of the population for what is probably 1 or 2 people acting up in front of their friends.

Of course YANBU. Don't second guess yourself. It's totally inappropriate and grim for men to make comments and make noises at you, as if you are an animal. Going for a walk is not a signal that you want to be commented on sexually by any men that happen to walk past.

@girlmom21 neither has phishy attacked "50% of the population". Again, she has simply added that there are a subset of men who are aggressive towards women in certain circumstances. Pointing out facts is not "man hating".

Doubting what a women says happened to her is sexist nonsense. Why on earth would you immediately assume that a poster is lying about or somehow misinterpreting her experiences?

why do people always come on these threads to cast doubt on someone’s story?! if you don’t believe it happens then carry on living in that world, but the fact is it does happen. and it happens a lot. yesterday as i walked home from the shop with my kids a van slowed down to beep at me and shouted ‘milf’ from the window. last week a man sat next to me on the bus trying to engage me in conversation and actually touched my face to tell me i was gorgeous. i moved seats twice before an elderly lady insisted i sit beside her. when i got off the bus the man did too and followed me to my work place where i had to call security. i felt sick all day knowing that man knew where i worked and could turn up again anytime he wanted. women have to put up with this shit everyday, and whilst it might not be all men, the men that stand by and watch it happen without comment are just as culpable.

that would have been a great response but would probably have literally backfired as I’m terrible at throwing and often end up endangering people standing behind me.

The OP has called the thread letchy fucking men because in all my 41 years neither I nor any women I know have ever been letched on, sexually assaulted and cat called by women.

Take down car registration numbers when anyone in a car makes such comments and report them to the police, unless if it is a company vehicle report to the company or leave a review/tweet about it.

I walked to the shop today, 10 min walk there, 10 back.

I had some guy slow down and shout 'I'd tear that arsehole to shreds'

Another guy stopped and shouted 'nice tits'

and another on the way back wolf whistled and shouted that I could get his number if I wanted.

I don’t know what world you all walk in but I’ve never witnessed nor been victim to any of the stereotypical ‘builders wolf whistling ‘, etc. I must walk in a world of fuglies.

Where do you all live for goodness sake you poor things? I think the men would be stoned alive if they treated women this way in our village!

I’m glad to be mainly invisible to these type of men now, but seek to have to deal with male aggression more

And of course some will come on to defend the men and deny so many women’s experiences it always happens

We know it’s not all men

But ideally it should be no men

And a more realistic idea it would be very very few men - but it’s not very very few men it’s far far too man men behaving this way
