Letchy fucking men

I don’t think IABU but I’m due on so might be over reacting.

I wore shorts today because it’s warm here, not proper short, shorts, probably two or three inches above the knee, I walked somewhere - about 3 mile round trip. I’m just fed up of letchy men, I can ignore staring, and someone smiling and saying hello is friendly and nice but people slowing down to comment or make the sort of noise you make to call an animal. What the fuck is wrong with them. I felt genuinely intimidated at one point and I’m a nigh on 50year old grandmother, I changed my intended route on the way back because I felt too scared to walk along a footpath. I hate to think how teenage girls feel and what their experience is.

Perhaps naively I thought the world had moved on.

Pretty concerned for girlmoms girls Sad

@Woolywolf

I’m not doubting any of the stories on this thread and I’m sorry people have to deal with this. I’m genuinely curious where you all live and am wondering if this is a regional issue maybe as I’ve hardly ever witnessed this kind of behaviour-I can’t recall ever hearing someone shouting “nice arse” or similar in the street/from a car and I see attractive women walking round all the time. Maybe they only do it when no one else is around? I live in a nice area in the south east so that may have something to do with it, although I lived in a big northern city whilst at university and used to walk around almost everywhere with my very beautiful model friend and never heard anyone shout anything at her-a few car horns maybe and men in bars approached her a lot but not on the street regularly. Everyone’s experience is different though and it’s disgusting behaviour
I currently live in Yorkshire but have lived in Cambridge, London and the West Country. Only place that I can’t recall it happening was the West Country. Maybe I’ve been unlucky? maybe there’s something I’m doing to attract attention? Maybe I’m imagining it? 🙄

Who knows what the answer is. Although I did work out why today bothered me more than usual - totally outing of any of my friends are on here (say hello if you are) the noise they made was the same noise that the horrible cannibal bloke on Torchwood made when he was chasing one of them.

@SweetPetrichor

I don’t know what world you all walk in but I’ve never witnessed nor been victim to any of the stereotypical ‘builders wolf whistling ‘, etc. I must walk in a world of fuglies. Hmm
Neither have I.

I'm sorry that others have been intimidated.

Letchy men are not “50% of the population

You're right, it's currently 49.41%

My young teenage daughter arrived home the other day to tell me she had been "licked" at by a older man 🤮

DrSbaitso · 28/08/2021 17:18

Lecherous men may as well be 50% of the population for the amount of fucking hassle and abuse they give us.

They won't stop until it becomes unacceptable to other men en masse. We know they don't care how we feel about it.

SamanthaJayne4 · 28/08/2021 17:27

You may not believe this but recently I was walking along a back street in a small town. Going from a car park to the shops. A man drove by with his window down and said hello in a suggestive way. I am 68 ffs!! I'm not bad looking for my age but I don't look young! They have very low standards is all I can say in my case. I wasn't flattered, I was irritated.

Tothemoonandbackx · 28/08/2021 17:29

I have had it happen to me, three times in one day once, I was walking to the post office from where I work, on the way up, a man in a van slowed down amd pipped his horn at me and wolf whistled, on the way back from the post office, a man quite clearly shouted to me "you're a very nice looking lady" not totally lecherous, but weird that he felt the need to shout it at me, then further down the road, another man in a van pipped at me again. Then on another occasion, I was coming back to pick my car up from it M.O.T and a man was walking across the road to cross in front on me, he stopped, looked me up and down and said.."oh yes, very nice" in a really creepy voice 🤢 it was awful, especially when he saw me picking my car keys up, turned out he was one of the mechanics, I've never been back there again!!!!

ShimmyYa · 28/08/2021 17:31

I’m with you, OP. I’m getting so fucking tired of grown men leering at my TWELVE year old daughter. It’s so disturbing and makes me want to commit acts of violence Angry

GlinnerForPM · 28/08/2021 17:38

The thing that ge5s me is the sense on entitlement they have in passing comments loudly for the world to hear. We don't need to hear your every thought thank you, now fuck off and think your thoughts without broadcasting them and let me get on with my day.

I 100% believe you. And I'm sure you are lovely looking, but of course that's not the point.

We are told that this happens only to 21 year old stunners, but that's largely to deny our experiences and try to bring us down for having them ("don't be silly, you're not hot enough for that to happen") and, as an extension of that, trying to make out that it's a compliment.

I've got so many stories and they're all horrible. I was once 21 but I was never a stunner. And I can't escape this shit either.

Clymene · 28/08/2021 18:00

I'm genuinely surprised there are women this has never happened to.

Cam001 · 28/08/2021 18:06

We live in a porn soaked society sadly. So many men are totally addled by it. If I were ever single again I think I'd be happy to stay that way.

PinkArt · 28/08/2021 18:12

A recent survey of 18-24 year olds showed that 97% of them had already experienced some sort of sexual harassment. Those on the thread who haven't experienced it are incredibly lucky to be in the 3%. It horrifically normal but OP you - all of us - are right to be furious about that.
To those who were wondering where women are experiencing this, for me it's been on the tube, walking down the street, putting out my bins, in a club, sitting in the park, in towns, in cities. It can happen pretty much anywhere.

Blossomtoes · 28/08/2021 18:14

I am too. I’m old so it obviously doesn’t happen any more but it happened with monotonous regularity when I was young.
Guineapigbridge · 28/08/2021 18:16

Women have very little idea of how much men hate them,” Germaine Greer wrote. In 1970.

Things got better for a while. Then online porn happened and now it's worse.

Naunet · 28/08/2021 18:21

You honestly think the overwhelming majority of men are letches? Is that your experience? hmm

And do you honestly believe women who speak up about this are liars? 🤨

TooWicked · 28/08/2021 18:26

I’ve said this on numerous threads. If DH were to die or we split up I’m convinced I’d stay happily single - and I’m only 43, but I just couldn't be arsed with men ever again.
LittlePudding1 · 28/08/2021 18:30

This happened when I was out with my 14 year old daughter, a man took it upon himself to comment to my daughter something along the lines of, I can see where you get your looks from! Obviously expecting us to laugh and be grateful for his "compliment" My daughter replied with, I'm 14 you pedo! It was a proud moment for me when he turned bright red and scuttled off. Hopefully it will deter him in future but sadly probably not

Blossomtoes · 28/08/2021 18:34

You can’t put the blame on porn. Men were doing this when I was young and the only porn available to most men was top shelf magazines.

It’s bloody men. Pure and simple. And spot on, if mine died, the last thing I’d want in my life is another one.

It's so lucky we're married to the few good ones.

Absolutely right.

The online porn industry has made women less safe than ever. It ruins relationships between men and women and has created swathes of the Male population who hate women and want to hurt them during sex.

See the post above where one of the cat callers said how he wanted to ‘shred the arse’ of the woman he was addressing.

I absolutely fucking despair.
