Joe Lycett should not be presenting GBSB

Joe Lycett is a horrible misogynist. He has no place hosting GBSB. If he is allowed to continue then it proves that society does not care about misogyny.

And the Gl*nnerGirls are out!

MissKeithsNeice · 27/08/2021 18:31

Cancel him i say.

Oh, wait...

GoldenOmber · 27/08/2021 18:32

Next up: why are so many women being angry about a non issue because a disgraced man tells them to be. If the gowl says you should feel threatened by them over there, you should praise him and turn against innocent people. Honestly the script by some here is so obvious.

I can’t make head or tail of this tbh, sorry!

JoyOrbison · 27/08/2021 18:32

What are Gl*nnerGirls?

hocusspocuss · 27/08/2021 18:32

@Charmtaste

If you replace the word woman/lady/bitch in his tweets with any race/religion/sexuality and it would rightly be unforgivable, no matter how long ago but saying these things about women is ok?
You're not going to get Joe Lycett cancelled. It's Friday night, mate, go to the pub or treat yourself to a bar of chocolate or something.

What a load of bollocks

ExtraOnions · 27/08/2021 18:34

I think he’s excellent on Sewing Bee … he’s a natural, and really funny.

He tweeted some “jokes” 10 years ago, I have no doubt both him and society have moved on.

I find all this trawling through old tweets to try to prove some point fairly tedious

SirVixofVixHall · 27/08/2021 18:34

@CorrBlimeyGG

The people hunting down these ten year old posts are anti trans rights, Joe Lycett is being targeted because he is pro trans rights. What do you think of those people OP? People that seek to deny others equal rights do far more harm than someone making stupid jokes.
People that seek to deny others equal rights ? What, like my teenage daughter’s right to a single sex space ?

@JoyOrbison

What are Gl*nnerGirls?
Graham Lineham (who co wrote Father Ted and The IT crowd) is one of the anti trans 'gang' who use the feminist section of Mumsnet.

Replace woman with man, bitch with bastard.
youaresunshine · 27/08/2021 18:35

That should say rape not men. Last word.

GoldenOmber · 27/08/2021 18:37

Honestly. Those are shitty things to say. Joking about rape and punching women is a shitty thing to do. No he shouldn’t be executed for it or anything, but the idea that it was ten years ago or it’s comedy or but he’s in with the Good Guys now stop being so MEAN you MEANIES is just ridiculous. “Oh but it could be a joke about raping men, not women!” Oh well that’s just hilarious then, never mind Hmm

MumDadBingoBLUEY · 27/08/2021 18:37

Joe Lycett is around my age, and I remember "jokes" like this being common 10 years ago in my circles (mostly university students). See also: "jokes" like "Make me a sandwich" and "get back in the kitchen"

None of my friends make jokes like that any more. They would be horrified to. It was fairly common at the time, even though it was bad taste, even then.

dworky · 27/08/2021 18:37

I'm of the opinion he should never have got the job in the first place. He's totally ruined it for me as he doesn't even pretend to show interest in the contestants, makes no attempt to support them in any way just ponces around like a toddler showing off. Look at me everyone, are you looking, where's the camera? MEEEEE!

NiceGerbil · 27/08/2021 18:37

I love sewing bee but have never really liked him on it that much.

Anyone who watches it, surely it's zero surprise that he has made posts like that?

DrJohnZoidberg · 27/08/2021 18:39

I like Joe Lycett , he also jokes about men too, did you search for them? Cancelling people is boring.

GoldenOmber · 27/08/2021 18:39

I know ten years ago is back in the distant mists of time for some, but I promise you we did know what sexism and unpleasant jokes were back then, too.

“But EVERYONE was doing it!” We really weren’t, you know.

FlumpsAreShit · 27/08/2021 18:39

He's very dull on the sewing bee. Doesn't add anything, isn't funny and puts me off watching it. It's a shame. The tweets are grim but when I read the title I thought you were just referring to the fact he's shit.

hocusspocuss · 27/08/2021 18:40

Joe has joked loads of times about how Mumsnet hates him. This isn't going to bother him at all.

lokomojo · 27/08/2021 18:40

I just wish people would talk about what they are talking about, instead of this constant side swiping.

Also FYI, Twitter is for mad people and bots. It's all nonsense. You can't know anything about a person by what random shit you dig up on twitter. It's making a cake from crumbs, to the most extreme degree.

If you don't like Joe Lycett's views on trans activism, say that. I might even agree with you, I don't know. But even then, what does it matter? He's a comedian. He's not the Chief Justice. He's just a comedian on Twitter, which is all bollocks anyway.

SciFiScream · 27/08/2021 18:41

Those tweets are awful. He needs to apologise I think.

Trans activists scour a person's past to get them cancelled.

Those who aren't trans activists are obviously learning the tactics of the TRAs

AdoptedBumpkin · 27/08/2021 18:41

Not a fan of his but I'm surprised to see these tweets. I am inclined to agree.

Coachradley · 27/08/2021 18:41

He’s quite sarcastic. He’s a comedian, I don’t think he means any harm

TeenMinusTests · 27/08/2021 18:41

JL was only 23 in 2011, hopefully he has matured now he is 33.

I don't think tweets from a 'young adult' (18-25) from 10 years ago should be used to try to smear him now.
Play the ball not the man.
