More US troops killed today than over the last 4 years . Pulling put has cost more deaths of US troops than staying there.
Afghans now being slaughtered.
Massive fail from Biden following Trumps pull out.

Very, very 😔

Those ex servicemen who questioned the point of 20 years ago.
None of this needed to happen.
The MP in Parliament last week was right.

It’s such a sad situation.

I don’t know what the answer is, but I know if Trump had still been in charge doing this there 6 have been a lot more criticism.

It’s a mess and the way the withdrawal has been done has created a lot of it

nc8765 · 26/08/2021 19:51

Watching Pen now thanks OP!

I think sadly some people are still losing it over whether people wear masks or are leaving the house. People don't care. Hence the lack of uproar

I've watched with horror. I feel for those poor people. 2 thirds of Afghanistans population is under 30 so most won't remember living under the taliban 20 years ago. Can't imagine what they must be going through.

I think it's perfectly acceptable to find this news devastating and still hold concerns following 18 months of lockdown. The two are distinctly different issues.

I feel for these poor people having the terrorists taking over the country again.

I don't think most People care. The rage displayed over a supposed breach of covid roolz though.

I'm not sure what the AIBU or which way to vote

SpicyJalfrezi · 26/08/2021 20:28

It’s absolutely wrong to say people don’t care.

However, there is very little, if indeed anything, we can do, either on an individual level or a national one.

blueshoes · 26/08/2021 21:22

I care about what is happening in Afghanistan and watch for updates throughout the day.

The latest suicide bombing is just devastating. The helplessness is overwhelming.

ChaneySays · 26/08/2021 21:50

I'm sure people genuinely feel sorry for them, but most just stay in their little bubble until it becomes mainstream news. For example, there was no outrage when ISIS recently killed 80 female students by planting a bomb in a school or when they shot up a maternity ward and killed dozens of mothers and newborns.

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 26/08/2021 21:56

I feel so sad for the people of Afghanistan. Biden is speaking at 20pm no doubt he will have words but words can’t erase what he has sanctioned. He has condemned people to death and women to sex slavery. He has destroyed the chances of Afghani women attending university. It was never going to work but this withdrawal is the worst thing to happen.

I think we forget how lucky we are. A week ago people were laughing at Afghans clinging to planes leaving. Desperate people.

Unbelievably sad.

He has indeed condemned people to death.

He has also condemned US citizens still stuck there to death and more US soldiers killed since they pulled out than in the last 4 years of being there. Stupid decision sanctioned by Biden.

I've been following this story with so much horror and sadness, checking probably too often than is healthy for updates. But it doesn't feel like there is anything we can do?

I'm absolutely horrified by the disgusting racism shown by people in this country, comments about them having houses for free, and turning up without masks or isolation (there is a link!) and all such nonsense.

Petardos · 26/08/2021 22:39

Which link? Asking refugees from a red country to isolate or wearing a mask is not racist.

ChaneySays · 26/08/2021 22:49

The only silver lining I can see (which isn't one really) is that the Taliban possibly stand a better chance of combating ISIS in their own country than many forces did.

ChaneySays · 26/08/2021 22:50

'NATO' not 'many'.

Refreshpage · 26/08/2021 23:08

Biden pointless words "we will not forgive or forget " like the terrorists care!

What a dumb twat Biden is. I mean seriously what did he expect would happen. Death of 12 US troops that wouldn't have died if he didn't just pull out.

It will get worse in the coming days.

Excelthetube · 26/08/2021 23:33

The Americans overwhelmingly want to leave.
Biden isn’t stupid

tttigress · 26/08/2021 23:44

I saw his speech, saying "we will hunt the terrorists down", surely he is trying to get out of Afghanistan? Made no sense.
