To think 'The Prince' US cartoon is too much?

I couldn't find a thread about this but - there's a new cartoon series coming out, which is basically a bit like 'Southpark' but with the Royal Family as the focus.

I watched a bit of a taster. It has Prince George at its centre. And Charlotte. It's completely no holds barred and has literally appropriated these real people's,and children's, lives.

I don't care about US 'cool' media and piss-take culture. This is something so appalling to do. The children are under 10. Really, really what gives anyone the right to do that? And what the hell is wrong with Harry, I'm sorry, for having declared open season on his own family? His lead on this has made the way clear for this kind of 'creative' attack.

Worse than anything levelled even at Trump. To an entirely innocent and beautifully brought-up little boy, who is only just 8.

Too much.

Never seen it. How is harry related to it?

PanamaPattie · 04/08/2021 10:32

Don’t watch it if it will upset you.

TooMuchPaper · 04/08/2021 10:33

What's Harry's involvement?

fluffedup · 04/08/2021 10:34

It's nasty.

MistyGreenAndBlue · 04/08/2021 10:36

Never liked Harry but surely he isn't behind this. Is he?

eightyfourandahalf · 04/08/2021 10:37

Why is everything blamed back to Harry? He's becoming such an easy target for the lazy haters.

Haven't seen it, but you can't expect to have someone already sold to the public as "future king of England" and being out of bound. There was a good social media account from "George" (a fake one obviously), it was actually really funny, he was taking the piss of everything and everyone.

A cartoon is not a documentary.

Perching · 04/08/2021 10:40

It’s horrible.
Harry could say something, being so hot on mental health/bullying. His silence is deafening.

eightyfourandahalf · 04/08/2021 10:42

Actually, I have just watched the trailer. You are being entirely ridiculous.

It's so obviously NOT the real children, it's the "royals" side that is being mocked. Being offended on their behalf only makes people wonder if it's actually very close to the mark...Grin

It will be a sad day when no one will even be allowed to laugh at the head of state that they haven't even had a right to chose. MIght as well be in North Korea.

TheLeadbetterLife · 04/08/2021 10:43

I just watched the trailer on YouTube. It's not nearly as vicious as The Windsors (which I love, and feel it probably has more truth at its core than The Crown).

Get a grip OP, people have always taken the piss out of the royals.

TheLeadbetterLife · 04/08/2021 10:44

And unless Harry is the executive producer, I can't see why you've brought him up at all.

IonaLeg · 04/08/2021 10:44

I totally agree. These are real life children who didn’t ask for their circumstances and have no control over them. They should, like all children, be totally off-limits.

eightyfourandahalf · 04/08/2021 10:44

say what? I am a public figure, but I am too superior so the plebs are not allowed to mock me? He would like like an absolute wally.

The ONLY possible reaction to a silly program like this is to smile, shake your head in private and...ignore.

eightyfourandahalf · 04/08/2021 10:47

The beauty of our country is that people are allowed to laugh at the royals

and you are allowed to express your disapproval. It doesn't matter, but you are allowed an opinion.

Could be worst!

PicsInRed · 04/08/2021 10:47

@MistyGreenAndBlue

Never liked Harry but surely he isn't behind this. Is he?
Surely William isn't behind this. Is he?

Look, see? That works for anyone! Let's try other situations?

"Never liked Harry, but surely he wasn't an iceberg in 1912. Was he?"

Wow, we can solve all kinds of mysteries with such magic.

Harry's kids and family are in it too

Saidtoomuch · 04/08/2021 10:49

It obviously isn't the real royals, but is quite obviously a cartoon version of them. Not my idea of funny. The adults fine I suppose, if you like that sort of thing, but not the children.

Tablow · 04/08/2021 10:51

If it's like southpark then saying anything will guarantee a 2 hour long special about you where the devil shoves a crown up your bum. I can see why harry would stay quiet.

Justcallmebebes · 04/08/2021 10:51

His new BF and neighbour, Orlando Bloom is one of the voiceovers. Plus some actress I've never heard of kicked off massively because her young daughter was snapped by the paps and "didn't ask to be in the spotlight". This woman voices Charlotte.

Plus Cringe and Whinge have kind of opened the doors to open season on the royals.

I do think it's out of order to focus on the kids which is what they are doing. I'm not sure any of you lot would appreciate a satirical cartoon featuring your v young kids which, royal or not, is what they are

eightyfourandahalf · 04/08/2021 10:52

It's not the real children, it's a piss take of the official version of the children...

The royals can't have it both ways: happy to bring them as "officials" when it suits them, but expect them out of the public eye and out of bound for the rest.

It's not intruding their life, their privacy or anything of the sort.

cinammonbuns · 04/08/2021 10:53

@Perching most people maglev not heard of the show and likely never will. The only thing mentioning it would do would bring attention to it.

It’s so funny that Harry is blamed for anything. Next thing you’ll blame him for global warming OP.

ancientgran · 04/08/2021 10:54

I thought Harry was a target as well? I'm no big fan of his but I don't think he's likely to be happy about this.

Notonthestairs · 04/08/2021 10:55

Good grief people will blame anything on Harry. It's like Spitting Image never existed.

cinammonbuns · 04/08/2021 10:55

@Justcallmebebes

You do realise Orlando Bloom voices Harry and is making fun of him.

x2boys · 04/08/2021 10:55

Why is everything Harrys, fault?
Im guessing you have never watched spitting image Op?

"Cringe and whinge"? Seriously... it's people like you who are fuelling the current revival.

There ALWAYS was laugh over the royals, as stupid as "spitting image".
Who are you blaming for that one?

You can't take kids to official and less official public engagements because of their "birth right", panto and football included, and then moan because they are part of a show.
Unless you are Kate secretary, you are not talking on their behalf either. They probably wisely ignore it.

They could keep the children as private individuals until they are 18, then people would have a right to think they shouldn't be included....

CuriousaboutSamphire · 04/08/2021 10:58

It's a bit like The Crown. Not my idea of entertainment - nothing that portrays private lives of people still living for our amusement is, or recently dead for that matter.

And no, I don't watch reality shows, they really aren't watchable as afar as I am concerned.

They are all the worst of human nature: nosiness, scurilous gossip and negative, nasty speculation. Everything I wouldn't tolerate n a friend, colleague, neighbour etc.

And doesn't that make me sound poe faced? Smile
