Had a Tom Cruise film on in the background today as I was packing for holiday. It was Collateral on Netflix. It got me thinking about how amazing he was.

When I was a kid in the 80s he was the biggest movie star in the world. He has an amazing legacy that is somewhat tarnished by his association with Scientology.

I loved Cocktail as a kid. How can a genuine movie star just loose a big chunk of their reputation, was it the couch jumping I wonder….the lack of people around him who tell him the truth? I wonder if he sees his daughter?

He was amazing though, I’m not bu about that 😀

I think the whole Hollywood machine must be hard to survive with your sanity intact. Not making excuses as I know nothing about the man. But I remember visiting LA in the summer of 1991 and seeing 20 ft high billboards lining the roads with just a giant photo of Cruise’s face on each one , and the words ‘Cruise. Like Thunder’ above ( promoting ‘Days of Thunder’). It was bizarre really. How would you come through with any sort of grasp on reality?

There are people who just make your skin crawl, Jimmy saville was one, no I’m not saying phedo stuff here, but the Scientology stuff is bad enough and yes my dh says he’s been in the closet for years,
How would your DH know?

Why? And if it's so well known in the industry then I'm sure the Scientology cult know too since they seem to have a hell of a lot of power/knowledge.

I find him so utterly creepy. Like a lizard got it’s one true wish to be a real man, and even though it’s walking around in its new man suit it’s still a lizard with no concept of human behaviour.

Honestly, some of you are odd. Stating TC makes your skin crawl in the same way Jimmy Saville does is bizarre.

I used to adore TC when I was growing up. He was the ultimate hollywood heartthrob before the likes of Brad Pitt. I was then put off after the NK divorce and the weird scientology stuff. But certainly not to the extent he makes my skin crawl.

I do cringe at him these days. All of his film roles over the last two decades have made me cringe. He's on a mission now to be liked - he has to play the hero, it's bloody awful. Valkyrie was the final straw for me. Truly awful. He's just a very cringey person overall. Clearly lacks any real insight as a result of the weird scientology bubble he's in where everybody fawns over him. But he doesn't make my skin crawl.

Jerry Maguire was the last decent film he was in.

Found him weird in Rock of Ages. I don’t think the acting was bad, I just can’t see him as a rock star.

TC being gay? No idea if he is or not, but I don't think scientologists care one way or another.

Scientology isn't a religion like christianity. There's no pretence of morality. They like people with secrets as that's what gives the organisation power over people in the cult.

Google their beliefs. They are as weird as they come and it's more like some strange new agey self help group with a few aliens thrown in for good measure.

If he is, he’ll have spent millions trying to “audit” the gay away!
It’s a deeply abusive organisation, and I think TC is the only one with enough stardom to bring the whole thing down.
But he won’t because they’ll have too much on him, he’ll have confessed every misdemeanour in this and all previous lifetimes.
He’s brainwashed, they all are. But he will know exactly what kind of man David Miscavige is, and he’d rather the whole world thought he was just a bit quirky rather than step out of line.

Would explain why his daughter lives modestly in Croydon.

And why he's still making Mission Impossible films aged 60.

And why he was so anxious about the film going ahead and not being shut down by Covid.

I find the Tom Cruise situation very sad. However, I live close to them main Scientology place and have to say that the Scientologists I have met have come across so well, very present and ‘together’. Having said that I find it disturbing and feel that Tom Cruise has been exploited by them. He seems isolated and lonely, it’s destroyed two of his marriages. He seems to value it above everything else in his life. The cost to him seems as if it has been too high IMO.

Off topic ever so slightly but every time we see Christian Bale on the telly we laugh.

Someone who worked with him on one of the Batman films tried to make small talk with him and asked where he was from and Bale said, in a gruff, Batman voice, "I'm from Gotham" and when co-star laughed and went nah mate where I you really from he said "I'm from Gotham".

Makes me laugh every time I think of it! I know about immersion acting or whatever but what an arse!
