me and my parents are having a (light hearted) argument over how many chicken burgers a person needs. she thinks that my dad should have 2 or 3, i think 1 is enough (she also serves with chips and baked beans, and the burgers are in the buns).
yabu - 2 or 3 is appropriate
yanbu - 1 alongside chips and beans is more than enough

1 would be enough for me. My husband however would definitely have 2!

GingerFoxInAT0phat · 14/07/2021 13:09

I’ve never known anyone to have more than one burger at a meal. The only exception I can think of is at a bbq if that’s all someone would eat.

Bksjshsbbev2737 · 14/07/2021 13:10

I would have 1 whereas DH would have 2

TiddyAndFletch · 14/07/2021 13:10

Depends on scenario and individual - personally, 2/3 if at a barbecue. 1 if served on a place with accompaniments.

Liverbird77 · 14/07/2021 13:10

One is fine, and I speak as someone with a big appetite!

pastadog · 14/07/2021 13:11

talking about breaded/battered chicken burgers here btw

One is plenty, with chips and beans and salad.

Megan2018 · 14/07/2021 13:12

I can eat 2 but it’s far too much and that’s only on a really fat (hungover) day. 1 is a normal portion although might depend how big they are.

Granohlaa · 14/07/2021 13:13

One burger in a bun with chips is more than enough for anyone.

Anoisagusaris · 14/07/2021 13:13

A proper big fresh beef burger like you get her in a restaurant or make at home - 1.

A thin chicken burger - plenty of people could eat 2.

SpindleWhorl · 14/07/2021 13:13

In this country we've completely lost sight of what a normal portion of gluttony looks like.

safariboot · 14/07/2021 13:14

If they're small then a double could be reasonable, but one is also reasonable whatever the size. Can always put more cheese and salad in the burger and more chips on the side.

sweeneytoddsrazor · 14/07/2021 13:16

Well I guess the choice is your dads. Surely he eats how many he wants not how many either his wife or child deem suitable

3Britnee · 14/07/2021 13:18

Previously I might have had 2. Now I'd have 1 and top up with salad. DH would have 2.

amylou8 · 14/07/2021 13:21

2 complete burgers with buns would be unreasonable, if being served as a meal with chips. 2 burgers in one bun, especially if they're on the small side is okay.

onlyhereforthecake · 14/07/2021 13:21

Unless they are appetizer-size, 3 is a lot for one person.

Lockheart · 14/07/2021 13:22

Surely it depends how large they are and how old / active the person eating them is?

memberofthewedding · 14/07/2021 13:23

My nephew and I had burgers sent in last night with chips and onion rings. They messed the order and only sent one burger but it was a stacked one with salad, bacon and cheese. We had half each and found that the meal was quite enough.

ChainJane · 14/07/2021 13:23

You should have two if it's a meal you're cooking at home. Obviously if you're in a restaurant you'd only get one.

It depends on the size of the burger of course, when I say two I'm talking about quarterpounders or smaller. If you're stacking multiple burgers in the same bun then I'd only have one, you shouldn't really need more than half a pound of burger in total whether it's one bun or spread across two.

Personally I wouldn't serve beans with burgers. Not because they don't work together, it's just the beans seem unnecessary. You should have chips of course and there should be salad in the burger bun along with the burger itself (and bacon and cheese).

HopeForTheBestExpectTheWorst · 14/07/2021 13:24

I think 1 burger is plenty when served with chips, salad, sides etc.

Justmuddlingalong · 14/07/2021 13:24

I would be quite happy having 1, but I'd draw the line at beans with it. A burger bun wet with bean juice is not an appealing thought.

Noterook · 14/07/2021 13:25

1, although id say 2 if the actual burgers stacked into one bun if felt that wasn't enough.

TeeBee · 14/07/2021 13:26

One is more than enough. Although I did a bbq for 10 teenage boys at the weekend and they managed to get through 12 burgers, a pack of sausages, 4 chicken breasts, and a massive vat macaroni cheese...so what do I know?

Kanaloa · 14/07/2021 13:27

I’d say 1 if it’s with chips and beans, but depends how hungry you are really! One would be enough for me, but my sil could easily polish off 2/3 burgers and she’s a real skinny minny.

Vodkabulary · 14/07/2021 13:27

Depends if it’s two/ three full burgers (including buns and salad etc) or one burger with two bits of chicken in? If it’s shop got thin chicken burgers (like Birdseye) I can see why someone might what two in a bun with sides but if it’s like a proper chicken breast then 1 in a bun with chips is fine.

2 or more full burgers and sides is madness
