help me settle this argument over how many burgers per person?

me and my parents are having a (light hearted) argument over how many chicken burgers a person needs. she thinks that my dad should have 2 or 3, i think 1 is enough (she also serves with chips and baked beans, and the burgers are in the buns).
yabu - 2 or 3 is appropriate
yanbu - 1 alongside chips and beans is more than enough

@pastadog

talking about breaded/battered chicken burgers here btw
1 or 1 1/2 each here
Inmypjsagain · 14/07/2021 14:05

I wouldn’t necessarily say they’re small, probably a standard chicken breast size? So at home id have the equivalent of a chicken breast each in a brioche bun, we’d make chips to go with but no beans. Id always have 2 at home.

I find if I have a burger out, they’re normally double patty, but will have extra things in that I wouldn’t have at home- like onion rings- I’d normally also order a milkshake which would fill me up!

Oops meant to reply @knittingaddict 😊

Portion sizes depend on...
All components of the meal
What else has has been eaten that day
Overall calorie needs.

No hard and fast rules.

JackieCollinshasnoauthority · 14/07/2021 14:07

I'm obese but 3 chicken burgers with chips and sides is madness.

FizzyPink · 14/07/2021 14:07

If I go to McDonalds my standard order is always a chicken burger with 6 nuggets on the side. Surprisingly about 100 calories less than if you get the burger with fries

Wheresthegetupandgo · 14/07/2021 14:08

I'd have 1 and half or 2 depending on who I'm eating with, DD (aged 7) would have half and probably leave the chips but she's not a massive eater anyway.

My brother would easily eat 3. My mum would have 1. So it depends on the person.

youngestisapsycho · 14/07/2021 14:15

Beans with chicken is just wrong!

ApolloandDaphne · 14/07/2021 14:15

DH and I often have breaded type chicken fillets but never have them in a bun. Just one each with chips and beans. Two or three in a bun each with chips and beans is a lot of food!

pastadog · 14/07/2021 14:16

would you not serve beans with chicken nuggets? @youngestisapsycho

OP posts:
katscamel · 14/07/2021 14:16

I'd probably have 2 but literally only a couple of chips as not a fan (unless sweet potato ones), definitely no beans as they are disgusting and lots of salad. Would only have 1 bun though.

PickAChew · 14/07/2021 14:17

How big are the burgers? A 2oz burger would be fine for a small child but stingy for an adult.

cookiecreampie · 14/07/2021 14:17

Depends on the appetite surely. My husband would have 2, I would have one if it was served with something else. If it was a burger on its own, I may have another, depending on how hungry I was.

youngestisapsycho · 14/07/2021 14:18

@pastadog

would you not serve beans with chicken nuggets? *@youngestisapsycho*
Ew no... (really hot Heinz)beans only go with sausages or steak pie! When kids were small they would have spaghetti hoops with nuggets or fishfingers.
pastadog · 14/07/2021 14:19

fair enough

OP posts:
Soontobe60 · 14/07/2021 14:20

We have 1 if we’re having them on muffins with salad, onions and cheese, accompanied by chips and more salad. Occasionally dh will have 2, but only 1 muffin, if he’s starving.

HopeForTheBestExpectTheWorst · 14/07/2021 14:20

I'd also not serve baked beans with burgers of any kind - actually would only have them as part of an English breakfast, they're a bit bleurgh.

Popcornbetty · 14/07/2021 14:21

I often have this same debate with my dh who will be greedy and ask for 2 beef/chicken burgers. I think 1 is more than enough esp with cheese and salad in the bun and a side.

frogswimming · 14/07/2021 14:23

1 with chips and beans.

Possibly 2 if no accompaniments.

But I would generally leave it to the person who is eating to decide how many they want!

JollyAndBright · 14/07/2021 14:23

With chips and beans/salad definitely only one burger.

If it was someone with a huge appetite I’d do a double burger (two patties in one bread bun.

Popcornbetty · 14/07/2021 14:24

Agree you would get away with 2 if one bun and it’s like a doubler but maybe not much if any sides.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 14/07/2021 14:24

You’ve made me hungry for chicken burgers now.
I only have one, loaded with salad. Homemade spicy wedges on the side, definitely no beans!
My husband will have two but only because they come in a pack of four and our youngest is weird and won’t eat a chicken burger so I do nuggets for her instead

lughnasadh · 14/07/2021 14:25

Well I think what other people eat is none of your business.

Life is fleeting, and I'd rather enjoy myself now, in little ways, than try to live in to my 90s (by which time you are only living a half life, physically).

frogswimming · 14/07/2021 14:25

@pastadog

parents are both obese so maybe portion sizes are a bit off to them! i’m not talking about 2 fillets in a bun, i mean 2 or 3 buns with a fillet in each, with oven chips and maybe 1/2 can of baked beans.
Why are you taking any notice of their opinion then?!
drpet49 · 14/07/2021 14:26

2 is fine. 3 too much
