help me settle this argument over how many burgers per person?

pastadog · 14/07/2021 13:06

me and my parents are having a (light hearted) argument over how many chicken burgers a person needs. she thinks that my dad should have 2 or 3, i think 1 is enough (she also serves with chips and baked beans, and the burgers are in the buns).
yabu - 2 or 3 is appropriate
yanbu - 1 alongside chips and beans is more than enough

I'd have two, no beans and possibly no chips. So would my Dad's and most of the people I know. I don't eat lunch though. If I eat a lot late, I don't have breakfast. I prefer to consider my eating over three days. I like burgers. I'd rather have onion rings than chips.

knittingaddict · 14/07/2021 13:37

Can we replace chicken burger with normal burger please because I can't stand breaded or battered chicken burgers.

As a meal at home with chips and sides, it would be one. At a bbq which lasted for a couple of hours or more, with food coming in batches, I could easily eat 2. Possibly with a other things like a sausage or halloumi thrown in.

Husband would say the same.

3 is ridiculous and greedy and I say that as someone with a slight tendancy to overeat.

catfunk · 14/07/2021 13:37

I'm a big eater and I'd only have one, especially if in a bun with chips!

WineRipened · 14/07/2021 13:39

I'd imagine some men would eat two.

knittingaddict · 14/07/2021 13:39

Oh and baked beans with burgers in a bun is all kinds of wrong. Has to be coleslaw or salad.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 14/07/2021 13:40

Really depends on the burger and sides.
1 if big fresh burger 200+g patty and toppings with sides
2 if I have just the burgers no sides🙈

Studiodoll · 14/07/2021 13:41

My DH always has 2 burgers with chips.

pastadog · 14/07/2021 13:44

parents are both obese so maybe portion sizes are a bit off to them! i’m not talking about 2 fillets in a bun, i mean 2 or 3 buns with a fillet in each, with oven chips and maybe 1/2 can of baked beans.

OP posts:
Bumzoo · 14/07/2021 13:44

Beans with a burger? I'm shocked to my core.

pastadog · 14/07/2021 13:45

btw this isn’t a ‘treat’ meal where you’d maybe eat more than usual if u know what i mean, but a normal weekday dinner.

OP posts:
pastadog · 14/07/2021 13:45

lol to me it’s the same as having them with nuggets bc these burgers are basically just giant nuggets in a bun.

FizzyPink · 14/07/2021 13:46

I think it depends. If it’s one of those pathetic breaded fillets out the freezer in a small bun then most people would eat 2. However a big pub sized burger with fillings should satisfy most people.

Lemonyfuckit · 14/07/2021 13:47

I do think we've lost sight of normal portion sizes (I know, I know...) surely one in a bun with chips and beans as well? I personally would find that a rather too much altogether, and I don't mean because I am a skinny MN virtue signalling sort of person, but because I'm short, so imagine that would be plenty for a bigger person.

IveGotASongThatllGetOnYNerves · 14/07/2021 13:47

I'd rather have a double chicken burger and fewer chips.
Ok. The same amount of chips.

Fine, fine. More chips.

Inmypjsagain · 14/07/2021 13:48

I’m actually quite surprised at the responses here! If we had chicken burgers at home I’d always have at least 2, husband would have 3. However if we’re going to somewhere like Byron I’ll have one and be stuffed (they’re normally double patties though).

I say this as a size 8 (well I’m pregnant now so who knows what I size I am 😂 but was a size 8 eating 2 burgers quite happily!)

Ivy48 · 14/07/2021 13:48

1 is enough but the men in my family could definitely eat 2 or make a
Double chicken burger

IveGotASongThatllGetOnYNerves · 14/07/2021 13:49

X post. No, not 2 buns. But def 2 burgers in one bun.

A brioche one.

With ketchup.

I'm hungry now.

TiredButDancing · 14/07/2021 13:50

DH and DS could easily eat 2. But I would discourage it and instead encourage more salad/ veg etc. For beef burgers, I've also come to realise that I should make the actual patty bigger because I was making them relatively small but if they then had 2 burgers, it was way too much , including bread, but 1 was too little. So now I do big patties for them and smaller ones for me and DD!

Zilla1 · 14/07/2021 13:50

Needs? Should have? Wants?
Needs - nutritionally no more than one?
Wants - as many as they want.
Should have - probably one if with chips and beans.
Quarter pounders or 1/8ths?

Zilla1 · 14/07/2021 13:52

If obese then the possible disconnect between needs/should have and wants/is used to might be higher.

TotorosCatBus · 14/07/2021 13:52

1 should be fine but if there were 2 left I might consider a double burger situation if I were hungry and cook fewer chips

Imascarecrow · 14/07/2021 13:57

For a general meal, definitely only one. My partner however would have 2 easily.

knittingaddict · 14/07/2021 13:58

I'm not a good judge because I never buy or eat chicken burgers. If they are as small as you say then I may eat 2 in a bun. Definitely not 2 or 3 in a bun each though, as the op has described. All that bread!
3Britnee · 14/07/2021 13:59

@Justmuddlingalong

I would be quite happy having 1, but I'd draw the line at beans with it. A burger bun wet with bean juice is not an appealing thought.
You make a dam with the chips. I do this with sausages on a fry up where I don't want the beans touching the egg.
EmpressSuiko · 14/07/2021 13:59

1, any more than that is too much.
