help me settle this argument over how many burgers per person?

me and my parents are having a (light hearted) argument over how many chicken burgers a person needs. she thinks that my dad should have 2 or 3, i think 1 is enough (she also serves with chips and baked beans, and the burgers are in the buns).
yabu - 2 or 3 is appropriate
yanbu - 1 alongside chips and beans is more than enough

It depends what's in it. I only do burgers the Australian way piled high with salad, egg, bacon, pineapple, beetroot... If its just meat and bread, I could understand eating more than one.

Bigassbeebuzzbuzz · 14/07/2021 17:17

It depends on the sides and size. With chips and veg 1 1/4 would probably be enough but if they were the small burgers definitely 2.

Notstrongandstable · 14/07/2021 17:19

Jeez I eat a lot but would only ever have one per person.
No wonder this country has an obesity problem

SchrodingersImmigrant · 14/07/2021 17:31

Being completely honest, I am sure I would be able to down 4 without sides.
What would the aftermath be is a different question😂 So i don't.

SimonJT · 14/07/2021 18:34

A burger isn’t exactly large, it isn’t that filling either. Also beans in the burger bun is great, just put the bun upside down, so top on the bottom, it helps to contain the beans.

Daisychaincarrot · 14/07/2021 18:44

Oh gosh this reminds me of when I had dinner at my in laws and the men were served SIX sausages each. As a woman I was only allowed 4 despite being larger than my husband.

At home we only ever have two sausages each

TwoMountains · 14/07/2021 18:44

1 burger would be enough for me.

DH would happily choose 2 burgers if that was on offer, but he wouldn’t complain about being underfed if he was presented with 1 burger and sides.

CtrlU · 14/07/2021 18:46

I would think 1 is enough although I know I would eat 2

Socksey · 14/07/2021 18:51

@ApolloandDaphne

DH and I often have breaded type chicken fillets but never have them in a bun. Just one each with chips and beans. Two or three in a bun each with chips and beans is a lot of food!
Same here.... no bun... too dry... But I would eat 2 or 3 depending on the size... and how hungry etc
Honeypickle · 14/07/2021 19:19

Dinner - 1 burger and plated sides.
Social BBQ - would cater for 1.5 burgers per guest, plus sausages, plus chicken/lamb/screwers plus sides.
So, am generous host but mean at home!!

GameSetMatch · 14/07/2021 19:20

One burger with chips and salad or two burgers on its own or just with salad.

StevieNix · 14/07/2021 19:24

I’d say one with extras on the side and a bun, but DH has hollow legs so could eat 2 or 3 with sides.

Myshitisreal · 14/07/2021 21:00

@rhiwrites I'd love the veggie burger recipe. Very hard to get a good one homemade that holds.

I would eat one burger. If we have veggie burgers for dinner, we have one bread roll each, 2 tiny onion rings each , one burger each (or I'll have 2/3 quorn Southern goujons). On the side we have a bowl of a couple of onion rings, and some frozen potato wedges. I might have 5/10 wedges. Homemade chips are kept for more exciting dinners. I'll chop veg for the side or add salad.

No way could I eat 2 with bread. Pub burgers and chips are usually too big for me to clear the plate.

TheGoogleMum · 14/07/2021 21:05

3 is too many! I might manage 2 if I'm really hungry

WeatheringStorms22 · 14/07/2021 21:08

One burger with chips, two burgers with salad.

PinkTonic · 14/07/2021 21:08

Years ago I had a neighbour who would get two thin, horrible, breaded recovered chicken burgers and share one with her 5 year old and serve the other one to her husband. Irrelevant but this thread reminded me of her peculiar tight fisted ways. Anyway, one decent one in a bun is ample. They are gluttons.

BestZebbie · 15/07/2021 10:48

When we have that meal (with veggie burgers) we'd all have chips/baked beans/peas and 3 burgers between three - I have 1, husband has 1.5, small DC has 0.5 - but that is because the child refuses to eat burger and that half is always left anyway - we give them cheese as well. If they actually ate burgers I'd expect to do 1 for me, 2 for DH, 1 for DC .

NotMyCat · 15/07/2021 11:57

I would have one but I like toppings in the burger too so lettuce tomato cucumber etc then chips and beans

SillyLittleBiscuit · 15/07/2021 12:02

My mum once made toad in the hole for 4 of us with 6 sausages each. 6 sausages, enough batter to surround them all, veg ... and mash.

1 burger with chips etc, 2 if at a BBQ and grazing over a period of time.

Aloethere · 15/07/2021 12:04

I don't think I have ever eaten more than one burger in a sitting and I wouldn't consider myself to be particularly virtuous when it comes to food.

PurpleDaisies · 15/07/2021 12:06

At a bbq, two burgers and a hot dog is what I’d allow per person.

As part of a meal with chips, just one. Get those beans off the plate though! Onion rings and coleslaw are what you need.

ISaidDontLickTheBin · 15/07/2021 12:07

Maybe 2 if they aren't big. But both in the same bun, not 1 bun per burger!

LizzieMacQueen · 15/07/2021 12:08

Do many adults eat (home made) burgers & chips as a regular weekly meal?
Clearly my food naivety is showing.

It can easily be part of normal weekly diet. I don't have them wwekly but if I wasn't losing weight I proba would😂 I make awesome burgers (pats own shoulder)

We have them as a Friday/Saturday night fake away. We’re a long way from a McDonald’s. They probably make it on to the food plan about twice a month. My burgers aren’t home made though.
