help me settle this argument over how many burgers per person?

me and my parents are having a (light hearted) argument over how many chicken burgers a person needs. she thinks that my dad should have 2 or 3, i think 1 is enough (she also serves with chips and baked beans, and the burgers are in the buns).
yabu - 2 or 3 is appropriate
yanbu - 1 alongside chips and beans is more than enough

I find a couple of sesame seeds picked off the top of the bun is more than enough for me.

brittleheadgirl · 14/07/2021 15:25

Jeez, that is so much food!
Unless there is a back story eg he's underweight and needs the calories, why would anyone eat, 2 or 3 burgers, the accompanying buns and then chips & beans?
Way too much food for anyone.

gogohm · 14/07/2021 15:27

One in a bun plus sides is plenty though as I generally buy a packet of 4, dp has two as my dd is veggie

user1471538283 · 14/07/2021 15:43

I would only manage 1 even without sides. My DS and bf could easily eat 2 with all the sides.

There are still manual workers, gardeners, professional and amateur sportsmen, etc.

Ridiculous to make sweeping generalisations about calorific requirements. People vary enormously.

warmfluffytowels · 14/07/2021 15:54

I'd manage one with chips and beans, but DH would definitely have two!

WeatherwaxOn · 14/07/2021 15:58

If the burgers were 'naked' with the other things then I'd say two. Given that they're in buns, 1 should be sufficient per person.

ChubbyLittleManInACampervan · 14/07/2021 16:01

@brittleheadgirl , we are all 6ft-6ft4 and do lots of sport, and need 3000 cals a day

We are not greedy freaks

People have different appetites

We are just not petite and dainty

BlueCupOrangeCup · 14/07/2021 16:07

If it is dinner, at dinner time, at a dinner table...then yes 1. Maybe 2 (the 2nd being on its own, no bun.)

If at BBQ then a good rule of thumb is about twenty eight burgers per person 😝

maddiemookins16mum · 14/07/2021 16:24

Depends if it is the cheapo 10 for a £1 Farmfood ones or not.

RhiWrites · 14/07/2021 16:28

Last night I served two sweet potato and chickpea katsu burgers per person with fried potatoes and veg. Calorie cost 656. But I didn’t add buns or beans and the potato had almost no oil.

help me settle this argument over how many burgers per person?

“Calorie cost”? Confused

Food is fuel. Nutrients. It’s necessary. It’s a credit not a debit. We are becoming a eating disorder culture, I think.

FedNlanders · 14/07/2021 16:31

I would have 2 and so would my kids. Husband would probably have 2 burgers in one bun x 2!

SupermanWithTheGreyHair · 14/07/2021 16:35

Maybe your dad could decide for himself how much food he wants to eat. 🤷🏻‍♀️

hopefulmama36 · 14/07/2021 16:36

I'm going to be awkward and say it depends on whether we're having a side or not. So we would usually have 2 burgers in small bread buns if were only having burgers. If we were having say chips or salad with we'd have 2 burgers but no bun or one burger in a bun.

That's not burgers then. That's just basically flat meatballs 😁

If you are on a diet you do count it like that. I treat my calories like money. Want to spend them well 😁

@ChubbyLittleManInACampervan
Your username suggests you're not anywhere near 6ft!

How do you know I'm small and dainty?

3 burgers, 3 buns, chips and beans is a ridiculous amount of food for anybody,
It's just pure greed.

ItsSnowJokes · 14/07/2021 16:48

Does it really matter in the grand scheme of things in life? If he wants 2 let him have 2, hell if he wanted 24 let him eat them! He is a grown man who can take care of his own needs and health.

These threads wind me up as you always get the competitive undereating on MN where a chicken burger will feed them and their family for a week.

brittleheadgirl · 14/07/2021 16:49

@RickiTarr
I know quite a few amateur sports people and they wouldn't touch that sort of food!

And yes, people with very active, physical jobs need more calories but they don't need to eat to excess!

Well I’m not qualified to calculate the exact energy requirements of 6’3 athlete, but I know a few who eat like horses and remain slim, so it’s clearly possible.

Micemakingclothes · 14/07/2021 16:54

1 is probably enough for most, but I’ve seen some very trim people eat more. ,

if I was hosting a meal, I would provide more than 1 per person because I never want to risk my guests going hungry.

This doesn’t compare the the meal stated in the op….as it’s not burgers in a bun, chips and beans!

If we were having that meal op would only have 1 burger. Even Dh would struggle with 2 never mind 3! if it was just burgers, no chips or beans then we’d have two.

Youdiditanyway · 14/07/2021 17:04

2 if you were purely having burgers, 1 if it’s with chips and beans as you mentioned.
