me and my parents are having a (light hearted) argument over how many chicken burgers a person needs. she thinks that my dad should have 2 or 3, i think 1 is enough (she also serves with chips and baked beans, and the burgers are in the buns).
yabu - 2 or 3 is appropriate
yanbu - 1 alongside chips and beans is more than enough

Use a thimble as a cookie cutter to make small burgers, and don’t forget to remove the crumb!

ChubbyLittleManInACampervan · 14/07/2021 14:27

The men in my house (DH plus 2 teens) would love 2 each, but would accept 1 and not complain (and then just eat a pound of chips each )

1 per person is ok, but if you are catering and want to be a generous host, I’d do 2 per person

idontlikealdi · 14/07/2021 14:28

Depends entirely on the size of the burger! one of this orange birds eye not much chicken ones, 3 at least. A proper chicken fillet burger, one.

Although I'd probably have two, no bun, no chips and definitely no beans.

TheFairyCaravan · 14/07/2021 14:29

I’d eat one because I have a tiny appetite and am inactive due to disability. However, DH, DS1 and DS2 would eat 2 because they’re over 6ft2’ tall and are on their feet all day so need more calories.

DustyMaiden · 14/07/2021 14:33

One for me. She is talking about her DH so probably knows he would like 2. Maybe she’s like my DMIL who would serve to burgers on a plate with chips, no bun, no salad.

Sceptre86 · 14/07/2021 14:35

I would want two but would probably forego the beans and chips.

MindTheBumps · 14/07/2021 14:38

I would have one bun with chips and salad, not beans. How many burgers go into the bun depends on the size. The rubbish cheap thin ones would be two burgers one bun, the nice thick Birdseye ones with the rice crispie coating it would be one burger and one bun.

MouldyPotato · 14/07/2021 14:39

1

Ilovecaviar · 14/07/2021 14:41

There is no debate, the right answer is as many as your dad would like to eat. Nobody should be dictating other people’s portions. Just because your full after eating one doesn’t mean everyone is.

Does my head in when we eat at someone else’s house and there’s not enough food to go round for everyone to eat plenty. Because of course ‘one is plenty’. And everyone out of politeness says how full they are.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 14/07/2021 14:49

I am adding to the beans confused but I thought it might be some British thing😂

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 14/07/2021 14:52

For lunch I'd need 2, for dinner I'd need 1. I'm always hungrily at lunchtime.

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 14/07/2021 14:52

*hungrier

Laufeythejust · 14/07/2021 14:54

We have chicken burgers for tea with a corn on the cob on the side. I have one and DP has 2 although I cook 4 and he will normally eat the last bit of chicken on its own later in the night (secretly and pretend someone broke in and stole it Grin)

Bluntness100 · 14/07/2021 14:54

I put you’re unreasonable becayse irrelevant of your Dads weight it’s his decision on how many to eat not you and your mums 😃

Aprilx · 14/07/2021 14:55

One for a meal but if I were buying for a BBQ I would get at least two per person and probably a few spares.

20viona · 14/07/2021 14:57

One for me two for husband.

Clutterbugsmum · 14/07/2021 14:59

Surely a quarter pound chicken burger is the same as quarter pound beef burger so I don’t understand the argument that a chicken burger needs to be 2 while a beef burger is 1.

Anyway back to the question. 1 quarter pound burger in a roll is a normal serving especially with chips. Of course teenagers may require more food.

The problem is your parents are obese as you say then they have completely lost sight of what a normal meal would look like. So they will think 2/3 chicken in buns are a normal size.

i think those birdseye ones are the exact ones i’m talking about

DH and I would have never be each but DS has been known to eat 4 in buns with a huge salad.

I'd say for a grown adult who doesn't have an active job one is plenty.

Pazuzu · 14/07/2021 15:05

Size of the burger and size/age of the guest.

If it's something off Man V Food, probably one. A chicken sandwich more than one.

One of those kids with the metabolism of an industrial waste disposal plant may eat more than a couple.

Just don't be one of those calorie counting stingy hosts.

SpindleWhorl · 14/07/2021 15:06

@Bumzoo

Beans with a burger? I'm shocked to my core.
My favourite lunch ever was the Newcastle University lower bun room's offering of burger in a bun, chips and baked beans for £1.30. Bloody delicious to a hungry student, and worth queueing up for.
NightOwl19 · 14/07/2021 15:07

My DP has a huge appetite and would have one burger but doubled up and there would either be something like bacon or pulled pork added in aswell as spicy cheese and salad

MikeWozniaksGloriousTache · 14/07/2021 15:15

Christ I’m obese and 2/3 buns and burgers sounds vomit inducing alongside beans and chips! I can understand 2 patties in one bun depending on the size / quality but not 3 buns chips and beans.

Briarshollow · 14/07/2021 15:19

Three is obscene. Frankly, with all the accoutrements two is too much, too.

NetballHoop · 14/07/2021 15:19

Just like any burger, they can vary a lot in size. One small one is enough for me but my teenagers would happily eat more.

As an aside I went looking for chicken burger sizes and clicked a link to Bird's Eye "4 Chicken Burgers" "Made from 100% chicken breast". A nice bit of marketing as the first item on the ingredients list is "Chicken Breast (46%)"
