I hope England do win even although I'm not a football fan. I don't want to be a pessimist but I think the odds are against a win. We'll never hear the end of it.

OP posts:

Plus all the poor women who will be the victims of the spike in domestic abuse that always occurs after England lose Sad

Marmite27 · 10/07/2021 20:58

Tbh I don’t think people mind going out in the final as much as they do in the earlier rounds.

BlatantlyNameChanged · 10/07/2021 20:59

And the damage that will be done to property. Our parish council has got to replace three bus stops that were smashed by dickheads "celebrating" the win on Wednesday.

Bairnsmum05 · 10/07/2021 21:00

If they win we will never hear the end of it either.

It’s very sad I agree, beaten up if they loose, raped if they win.

It’s not a reason to ban sport though imo. The majority of people watching don’t abuse people afterwards. Plus an abuser would just find another reason to abuse, football is just the excuse, not the reason.

RandomMess · 10/07/2021 21:03

I'm dreading the fall out, people drinking for hours beforehand to keep their table in the pub.

Any Italian supporters out are going to be a target whatever the result.

siblingworries · 10/07/2021 21:05

@Cloudninenine I saw a very powerful picture being shared on Facebook earlier from national centre for domestic violence NCDV. It said exactly this, but was blood on her face as the England flag. Not said domestic violence increases 26 percent if they win, 38 percent if they lose. Sad

BlatantlyNameChanged · 10/07/2021 21:06

No, but the FA and UEFA could do more to address/tackle the link.

How awful. I do agree, though, that football only provides another excuse. The likely alcohol ignites violence too.

This always plays on my mind when there is football on, the DV spike isn't just for games England lose.

I've been feeling sick about what will be inflicted on so many women this weekend. It feels like it's accepted.

Cushionsnotpillows · 10/07/2021 21:15

I only hope they win so they can finally shut the fuck up about 19 sixty bloody six. 55 sodding years of "it is now!" GrinGrinGrin

Lockheart · 10/07/2021 21:17

I'm dreading the mobs in town and also the spike in domestic violence.

Alannawhorideslikeaman · 10/07/2021 21:18

I hope they lose as I've got a bet on Italy winning Grin

MimiDaisy11 · 10/07/2021 21:21

You’ll never hear the end of it if they lose?
Surely it’s more likely you’ll never hear the end of it if they win?
That’s one reason I don’t want them to win as I’ll have to stop watching the tv for weeks Grin

PhilSwagielka · 10/07/2021 21:24

The nastier fans are going to cause trouble no matter who wins. Me, I'd like England to win but I won't be too sad if Italy win instead.

@Marmite27 you're serious? Rapes go up when England win?!

Toottooot · 10/07/2021 21:26

It’ll be someone/something else’s fault though I’m sure. 🇮🇹🇮🇹

morepizzapls · 10/07/2021 21:30

I love football and I do get into the international tournaments but truthfully, part of me is dreading the aftermath of the game tomorrow.

I really want us to win though because I think behaviour will be worse if we don't.

Yes agree that abusers just use it as an excuse. Same way many use alcohol as an excuse, often drinking a little and then pretending to be "drunk" so they can blame the assault they already had planned on the alcohol and pretend not to remember.

Would they use it as an excuse if society didn't accept it though? "Oh, well, emotions were running high, I'm sure he didn't mean it..."

Property will be damaged regardless of the result unfortunately. That's what hooligans do.

Probably have been better if bojo had announced a temporary lockdown before the final was here, then there would be less damage. Maybe. But he needs the money so here we are. Clean up on Monday.

FanOnCurtainsClosed · 10/07/2021 21:36

I used to work for social services. The duty team for children were busiest around The World Cup. No other sporting event and not Christmas caused as much misery.

I've never felt the same about it since.

Bryonyshcmyony · 10/07/2021 21:39

It's not football, it's alcohol. Think about that when you drink your glass of prosecco as you are moaning about sport.

Exactly. DV is the fault of the perpetrators and no one / nothing else.
User135644 · 10/07/2021 21:40

Oh for goodness sake, they aren't going to lose. England are going to win.

User135644 · 10/07/2021 21:41

If they did lose it'd be forgotten about in a day and people will move on. It's the win that'll be dragged out a bit.
Demelza82 · 10/07/2021 21:41

I'll be thrilled if they lose, people have lost their heads
