As a wife, would I annoy you?

DH and I work FT. He is a senior manager and I work in demtia care. He works Mon - Fri and I'm shift working.

I'm working all weekend, I love my Friday night TV and I like to engage with the tv. Probably a running commentary in his eyes. His days are filed with zoom calls etc mine aren't so I really enjoy my soaps and talk through them/with them.

He has one eye on the tv and another on his iPad watching sport. I've been told off for engaging and talking.

AIBU?

Really weird. Do you not have any other means of expression other than speaking for characters on soaps? Sounds depressing as hell

Livpool · 02/07/2021 22:47

It does sound rather annoying OP

Holothane · 02/07/2021 22:48

My ex talked over everything it drove me nuts, today if I’m not In the mood to talk I don’t. Dh knows now if we watch something not too much chat and Dr who if new he is told silence😂😂

Umbra · 02/07/2021 22:50

No, it wouldn't annoy me - I'd be in a different room!

No reason he can't wear headphones for his sport watching and let you enjoy your soaps in peace.

Planty13 · 02/07/2021 22:50

BEYOND annoying. The only people I know who do this live alone

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 02/07/2021 22:50

do you mean you are guessing what will happen next or maybe later?

DH & I both do that. we had a phase when we'd accuse every new character "a bit dodgy". then of course it morphed into randomly calling completely innocent things dodgy. we found it hilarious 🤣

I'm more expressive so yeah I will comment or react more, but it's not polar opposite to what he does.

so to answer your question I think I'd get on well with you but only if you are happy to play the "what was he/she in" and "love child" games.

but in your DH's shoes I get that he finds the running commentary annoying. I don't always want to talk, especially when knackered.

Ilovenandos · 02/07/2021 22:52

Sorry but you would bore and annoy the tits off me 🤣

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 02/07/2021 22:54

Is this you two?

FunTimes2020 · 02/07/2021 22:54

Sorry OP, but you sound very odd!

SilverRoe · 02/07/2021 22:55

I’d find you extremely annoying. But I also agree it’s a bit depressing that your weekly highlight seems to be chattering at soaps? Is that really what you enjoy and how you relax and express yourself?

Maggiesfarm · 02/07/2021 22:57

@Mansplainee

Yeah that would annoy me too, sorry OP
Me too.
blueshoes · 02/07/2021 22:57

I read the OP and have no idea what you are doing. If you are doing what I think you are doing - commenting to no one in particular about what is happening on TV and anticipating lines - I think I might pound you into the sofa and give myself up to the police.

TheCrowening · 02/07/2021 22:59

That would drive me bananas to the point I couldn’t sit in a room with you, and if my husband started doing this it would definitely bring on the ick. I know that’s also in part my intolerance though.

RaginaFalangi · 02/07/2021 22:59

You would drive me insane, my friend would do this when we went to the cinema once

CommanderBurnham · 02/07/2021 23:00

My
Husband does this when scrolling on his phone.

Drives. Me. INSANE

Thekindofwindowsfaceslookinat · 02/07/2021 23:01

C'mon OP. What could possibly be endearing about this?? Grin

peachyandkeen · 02/07/2021 23:03

This would annoy me no end. Sorry.

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 02/07/2021 23:09

Yanbu. I have no interest in tv especially tv soaps, but if it’s your thing then take your iPad & pods and do it wherever you want

kindaclassy · 02/07/2021 23:12

You talk to the TV and he stays in the room?

The man is a saint. Or deaf.

pasturesgreen · 02/07/2021 23:12

That would do my head in, sorry OP.

Yes, that would bother me.

I hate it when people give a running commentary or ask 'what do you think will happen' hold on, I'll get my crystal fucking ball out shall I?! Just shut up and watch the programme! (Not you OP people I know... my DP!).

PigletJohn · 02/07/2021 23:22

Please don't ever go to the theatre.

Kentuki · 02/07/2021 23:24

It’s not so much annoying as it is odd.

I couldn’t tolerate it, because I’d be forever picking at you trying to figure out WHY you were doing this weird thing.

It’s sort of redolent of people who have those reborn dolls. It’s the same category of odd. It would make me uncomfortable!

VerticalHorizon · 02/07/2021 23:24

I would never talk just to myself.

Yes you would!

Fair enough, I would.
