DH and I work FT. He is a senior manager and I work in demtia care. He works Mon - Fri and I'm shift working.

I'm working all weekend, I love my Friday night TV and I like to engage with the tv. Probably a running commentary in his eyes. His days are filed with zoom calls etc mine aren't so I really enjoy my soaps and talk through them/with them.

He has one eye on the tv and another on his iPad watching sport. I've been told off for engaging and talking.

Sounds like you would be a good candidate for Gogglebox OP Smile!

SnarkyBag · 02/07/2021 22:03

Oh god yeah people who commentate over tv are very annoying sorry! I’d probably just go elsewhere whilst you watched to be honest

PatriciaHolm · 02/07/2021 22:05

I wouldn't have married you ;-)

Intensely annoying!

wizzywig · 02/07/2021 22:05

I think maybe you've forgotten you aren't at work so you don't need to do the commentary thing?

MadeOfStarStuff · 02/07/2021 22:05

Yes that sounds really annoying!

lljkk · 02/07/2021 22:06

I think you're hilarious OP (genuinely, I mean it nicely).

He could get headphones?
You could learn to whisper?

There's room for compromise.

cantgetmyheadroundit · 02/07/2021 22:09

Yes, it would drive me mad. DP goes through phases of constant blathering shite sometimes, and I have to tell him to shut up.

Summertime21 · 02/07/2021 22:09

That would annoy me

Katefoster · 02/07/2021 22:10

I'm like this but so is my husband. Our friends hate watching tv with us because we love talking about it/pausing to talk about it. If a program is an hour Wel spend another hour with it paused. I can see how this can be annoying tho!

CanIBeACurlyGirl · 02/07/2021 22:10

Ha ha

Oh well...

I guess I'm more annoying than I thought. Poor DH, I like me though!

You sound endearing yet hugely annoying 😂 sorry op I'm with your husband on this. Time for you to get a TV in the bedroom to watch.

Panaesthesia · 02/07/2021 22:14

Watch TV by all means but don't talk. He isn't watching, he doesn't want to hear your 'running commentary.' I don't watch TV and would leave the room if someone insisted on babbling over it.

whatthejiggeries · 02/07/2021 22:15

That sounds very irritating but funny

MuchTooTired · 02/07/2021 22:17

I’m sure you’re lovely, but this would drive me mad! Sorry Blush

Ifitquacks · 02/07/2021 22:17

It would drive me fucking insane Grin. Why would I want a commentary on something I’m not watching or interested in? I presume you did this before he married you though so he knew what he was getting into 🤷🏻‍♀️

Rillington · 02/07/2021 22:19

You would drive me crazy. I would be buying you some large gobstoppers.

Couchbettato · 02/07/2021 22:19

To me, TV is something you watch and shut up while you're watching it.

chickenyhead · 02/07/2021 22:19

I quite like it. I like people to be enjoying themselves and engaging. I also like people to feel comfortable in their own home. You can come watch it at mine. I will be on my phone. Grin

SwanShaped · 02/07/2021 22:20

Watching gogglebox must be a very intense experience at your house! You talking at people on the tv, talking about people on the tv. Maybe he needs to go and sit in somewhere else.

DragonDoor · 02/07/2021 22:22

If he’s on his I pad, he is clearly not following the programme.

Would you talk to ‘the TV’ if he wasn’t there, or are you looking for responses from him?

You can be engaged in a programme without verbalising your thoughts. I wouldn’t like it.

Twylar · 02/07/2021 22:23

Really, really annoying. Sorry

SparklyLeprechaun · 02/07/2021 22:23

DH does that sometimes, although probably not as much as you. I leave the room. It's incredibly annoying.

MolyHolyGuacamole · 02/07/2021 22:24

I don't do it by myself but I like talking through things about what's going on In the show with other people. Why does he have to sit in there anyway if he isn't even watching, can't he watch in the bedroom?

imacuddler · 02/07/2021 22:24

My oh constantly talks when we are both watching the same programme so I am constantly pausing and re winding as I've missed something. It drives me mad.
I wouldn't be able to stay on the room if I wasn't even watching it.
So you would drive me mad!
You need separate rooms!

wizzywig · 02/07/2021 22:24

Imagine this on a plane
