....AIBU to think WTF?!

What is actually going to her? I feel so sad waking up to that news this morning. Is the judge on the payroll too or something? It’s just awful Sad

Any judges here that can shed any light on why she can’t be free to live her life?

The judge will have more information than we do on which to base their decision.

MyFloorIsLava · 01/07/2021 07:30

Shock link?

ShirleyPhallus · 01/07/2021 07:31

I wonder if it’s to do with setting precedent for people with mental health issues. The judge knows much more about the case and the specifics than we do.

Sad outcome though.

giletrouge · 01/07/2021 07:31

Same day Cosby is released too.
Misogyny rules, obviously.
Poor Britney.

Sparklingbrook · 01/07/2021 07:33

I don't get it. But assume the judge has more information to go on than we do.Confused Maybe if we knew it too we'd understand?

Sirzy · 01/07/2021 07:35

Even if she still needs the guardianship surely at this point someone more appropriate should be appointed ?

Whinge · 01/07/2021 07:35
Shock

Obviously the judge will know more than we do, but does this mean everything will stay the same for her?

Some of the changes she was asking for were so small but would make a significant difference to her life. Like being allowed therapy at home, rather than travelling to it. Sad

OrrisRoot · 01/07/2021 07:35

Pending something else or just flat out denied?

OrrisRoot · 01/07/2021 07:38

Well that article is shoddy. BS certainly did not claim to have “been forcibly fitted with a contraceptive device”.

Maybe in an hour or so a more insightful account of what is going on will be available.

SpindleWhorl · 01/07/2021 07:39

I just read a news report on this and I now don't understand it at all, or indeed the supposed roles of anyone involved.

PegasusReturns · 01/07/2021 07:42

I think it’s to do with the removal/change being requested without a medical assessment of Britney.

Brittney wants her father removed - there needs to be sound reasons for that happening and a challenge on the medical evidence that lead to the conservatorship being put in place would make sense but apparently hasn’t happened.

At the same time her father is also opposed to the current carer becoming the only personal conservator. Suggesting she is in some way dodgy. So that needs to be assessed.

It’s a total mess and seems extraordinary, but assume judge has info we don’t.

U2HasTheEdge · 01/07/2021 07:42

@Sirzy

Yep.

It really doesn't make sense.

Bagelsandbrie · 01/07/2021 07:43

I don’t think any of us can attempt to understand this when we only have half the information- we will never have access to the medical records etc that they do. They’ve obviously based their decision on something within them.

NutellaEllaElla · 01/07/2021 07:43

How disappointing. If she still requires a conservator of such a restrictive type, why does it need to be her father when she objects so strongly?

PoisionIvy22 · 01/07/2021 07:47

To be honest, I’m starting to not give a shit what reasons the judge had to say no because IMO in 2021 there is NO reason why a grown woman cannot have access to her own money, to spend it the way in which she chooses, to not be able to drive, to not be able to get married or have a child, to be able to go wherever she wants and move freely around etc, etc, the list goes on.

Britney Spears had a breakdown, shaved her head and took a baseball bat to a car. Is it any wonder really? But that seems (publicly) to be the extent of her ‘crimes’ it ISN’T illegal for someone to have mental health issues FFS. Think of all the A-list Celebs out there that have mental health issues, that are hooked on drugs, that go around doing ‘bad ads’ shit, yet no one is locking them up?

If she wants to be free and wants to bloody overdose on class A’s and die the first night of the end of the conservatorship (and I don’t believe she will, I believe she’ll just want to live a quiet life for a while and enjoy being ‘free’) then that’s up to her and she should be allowed to do that if that’s what she wishers, because let’s face it, lots of others do.

So ignore my earlier comment about why the judge has denied. There isn’t any justification IMO.

Totally agree with this.
TheReluctantPhoenix · 01/07/2021 07:48

If anyone has seen ‘I Care a Lot’, you will know that there is something deeply rotten in the US conservatorship system.

Of course we don’t know all the facts but this truly stinks. Surely some high profile US lawyer should be taking this on on the basis of only getting paid if she regains control of her funds?!

OrrisRoot · 01/07/2021 07:50

It does feel as though a legal mechanism for dealing with incapacitated seniors has been misapplied. Surely there are different arrangements for articulate young people with MH problems?

I think there’s a public head of steam that will demand more of the authorities now. Some kind of generalised clarification of the legislation, at least. It’s all looking a bit Kafkaesque.

unwuthering · 01/07/2021 07:50

God, it's like the olden days when your male relatives could just have you committed to an asylum, on the most tenuous of grounds, for the term of your natural life, if you displeased them in some way.

PatchyTwat · 01/07/2021 07:51

There is no justification at all.

She’s got to be in this state partly due to upbringing and being used as a child, if she needs a conservatorship then it should be someone independent the court appoints. This is absolutely cruel.

If she can be used again to work and do shows and make more money they she can’t possibly be too mentally ill to make some independent decisions. She’s not a fucking pet.

Eviethyme · 01/07/2021 07:51

I also don't understand it... How can someone have such control of someone else's life, and everything she said in that case was dreadful... Don't know how they can let it continue :S

Whinge · 01/07/2021 07:51

I believe she’ll just want to live a quiet life for a while and enjoy being ‘free'

I get the same feeling. I think she just wants to be out of the limelight and live her life without the constant pressure of having to perform and make money for those around her. Unfortunately she's a meal ticket, and those who benefit aren't keen on this idea for obvious reasons. Sad

I worry things will change for the worse. I imagine her father is royally pissed off she has dared to challenge him like this and he still start dictating even more. Increasing meds, increasing workload… I wouldn’t be surprise if she attempts suicide soon, she can’t live like this it’s heartbreaking.
