40,000 Fans and No Masks

DadAManger · 29/06/2021 18:44

Watching the football. Yes, I like the football.

But WTF, no masks (literally not one mask) and hugging and kissing like it’s a San Francisco in 1980.

This pandemic is over then? My kids aren’t being sent home from school again, I can spend time sitting with my grandmother at home? I know I will be told ‘life has to go on as normal’. I think I have lost my mind - I just don’t understand anymore.

Completely agree and I HATE football! It's absolutely stupid.

korawick12345 · 29/06/2021 18:48

I mean you have a point but nothing to stop you sitting at home with your grandma!

theliverpoolone · 29/06/2021 18:49

Just thinking the same, having just had to manage a work event with people carefully grouped in bubbles HmmHmm

mum2jakie · 29/06/2021 18:49

My grandma is 91 and I took all my (unvaccinated) kids to visit at the weekend. If not now, when?

I'm not a fan of football but nice to have life looking a bit normal again!

TeddingtonTrashbag · 29/06/2021 18:50

Masks are pointless. So yes YABU

millymollymoomoo · 29/06/2021 18:50

The problem is not maskless fans at football it’s the other restrictions that need dropping

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 29/06/2021 18:55

Time will tell if there's spike in cases directly related to this but so far there hasn't been from the test events and neither was there last summer when all of MN was up in arms about beaches and BLM marches

Obviously I know that there's the delta variant but well over 80% of adults have one jab, over 60% two, I'm not too worried about it

We've got to get back to normal

Sparklingbrook · 29/06/2021 18:55

Thought this would be you OP. How many threads is that now? YABVU.

Garraty47 · 29/06/2021 18:56

Why can't you sit with your grandmother?

SuperstoreFan · 29/06/2021 18:56

I thought it was 60000?

DadAManger · 29/06/2021 18:57

Sorry for the typo - I meant at THE home. My grandmother is 92 and in the old folks home. She has dementia and finds the PPE very confusing now. My grandfather was there until January, when he died with Covid unfortunately.

It’s a trial event. Negative PCR to enter, and on days 2 and 5.

But you know that. And judging on a few places I’ve been to work lately, plenty of places are the same. Birmingham, Leamington and Leicester had next to no masks in sight. Solihull was almost completely masked.

HelplessProcrastinator · 29/06/2021 18:57

The restrictions should stop for everyone. No year 6 celebrations for my DD but thousands at the football. I can’t see any sense in it.

Taliskerskye · 29/06/2021 18:57

Why can’t you sit with your grandma
Random Random random

MyDcAreMarvel · 29/06/2021 18:58

@TeddingtonTrashbag had to check the date then, June 21 and still the ignorance.

Taliskerskye · 29/06/2021 18:58

Why can’t you sit with your grandma In A home
I do 🤷‍♀️

Sparklingbrook · 29/06/2021 18:58

'Old folks home'. I don't think they are called that any more are they? Sad

ineedaholidaynow · 29/06/2021 18:59

It's a trial event.

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 29/06/2021 18:59

Why the faux “is the pandemic over” question, surely we're way past that kind of pretending?

Sparklingbrook · 29/06/2021 19:00

@ineedaholidaynow

It's a trial event.
Yes, DS2 went to a cricket one. Lots of covid tests required. Before, after then a week after.
Soulstirring · 29/06/2021 19:00

@millymollymoomoo 💯 agree

sotiredofthislonelylife · 29/06/2021 19:00

I entirely agree!

I have an idea - if we dress in sports gear (any type), we can go anywhere with impunity. The olympics, the tennis, the cricket AND the footie. You simply have to pretend that you can do the sport - and it might be fun to invent a new one, at which you would be bound to excel.
You can go to any country in the world for your ‘sport’; no need to quarantine/wear a mask etc.

Of course, you can always go on holiday, but say ‘it’s work’. I don’t think you have to prove anything.

Or be a politician maybe? Travel around the world no worries! Of course, don’t go to Germany. Angela Merkel doesn’t want us. How come footie fans have come here though? Aha - they won’t be able to go home again because they’ve been to ENGLAND………

Seriously though, I think ordinary people are heartily sick of all the double standards. Roll on freedom day!!

Ponoka7 · 29/06/2021 19:01

Welsh fans had to pass through at least three countries to get to the Wales game. It just makes a mockery of the rules. Matt Hancock made it clear that Covid wasn't going to stop the football, though.
I think that we did need to come out in June as first planned. We couldn't attend my grandchildren's sports day, on a big field. We could pack on a pub and watch the football though.

sashagabadon · 29/06/2021 19:01

It’s brilliant! The atmosphere seems electric. Ed Sheran there too. Come on England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿
