40,000 Fans and No Masks

DadAManger · 29/06/2021 18:44

Watching the football. Yes, I like the football.

But WTF, no masks (literally not one mask) and hugging and kissing like it’s a San Francisco in 1980.

This pandemic is over then? My kids aren’t being sent home from school again, I can spend time sitting with my grandmother at home? I know I will be told ‘life has to go on as normal’. I think I have lost my mind - I just don’t understand anymore.

England won. Shock

Ponoka7 · 29/06/2021 19:03

"It's a trial event."

It isn't. We had concerts and festivals as trial events. I agree with it going ahead, but this has gone ahead to please the men, because we can't have them miss out.

rooarsome · 29/06/2021 19:03

I just feel sad seeing all of these fans cheering on the football, whereas I couldn't even watch my son's first sports day.

Littlecaf · 29/06/2021 19:04

The football is a test event, everyone has to submit negative test results 2 days before. Of course it doesn’t stop someone catching it after the test and before the event then spreading it but hopefully if that happens it’s minimal.

It is weird seeing that many people though, I agree.

Personally I’m not ready for all restrictions to be lifted. I think it’ll result in more positives and more children off school / more isolation impacting on my life negatively - my children being in school and my life is my priority, seeing live football is theirs. I think we’re in for a few tough months but hopefully once all adult (as many as possible) get the jab then hopefully that’ll be the maximum we can do for now.

BoomChicka · 29/06/2021 19:04

What happens if you don't complete the day 2/5 tests after an event?

Blossomtoes · 29/06/2021 19:04

About bloody time.

Sparklingbrook · 29/06/2021 19:05

I don't see the comparison with schools sports days. There was a thread about this (or two, or three) last week and schools can have Sports Days if they choose to. Some have done.

BoomChicka · 29/06/2021 19:05

Have to say I would bloody love to have been there, what an atmosphere!

Sparklingbrook · 29/06/2021 19:05

No idea. DS2 did his for the cricket.
Garraty47 · 29/06/2021 19:05

But schools are allowed to have sports days. It's up to the schools themselves if they allow parents to watch.

Etinox · 29/06/2021 19:06

@korawick12345

I mean you have a point but nothing to stop you sitting at home with your grandma!
Another fan here, but... It’s contagious! I can’t sit at home with my Nan for ever. I have to go to work. I have a holiday booked, family to see and travel to see and kids booking tests and having to quarantine and, and, and. 40,000 unmasked spectators jeopardises all that. And that’s just my selfish ramblings, let alone variants, reduced immunity from vaccines needing top ups, etc.
Notwavingbutdrowing3 · 29/06/2021 19:06

OP can't sit with her grandmother in a carehome without following National Covidsafe guidance issued to all care homes initially in Mar 2020 and updated several times since - which involves visitors wearing PPE inside, waiting for results of a LFT done at carehome prior to entry and visit taking place in a separate room or pod, away from communal area.... OP probably can't take DCs in to visit their great GM at the moment and all visits to care homes are booked in ahead of time , due to taking up staff time to supervise COVID safe arrangements , they have to manage visits - so if grandma has designated visitors already from grandad eg daily or from others, OP might be waiting for her visit appmt.

Sparklingbrook · 29/06/2021 19:06

Yes, that's what I gleaned from the other threads about it. It's down to the school.
maddening · 29/06/2021 19:07

You can sit with you gm and you can socialise without masks now?

This is outside, reduced numbers so there is space between groups. They have had tests prior to entry.

If we all tested before socialising I am sure we would have less spread.

Taliskerskye · 29/06/2021 19:09

@Notwavingbutdrowing3

Like I said. I go all the time.

The only part of PPE I can see would be an issue is the mask. If you’re in room visiting then you can put it on your chin. The staff knock before they come in.
You are allowed 2 visitors in room, so why can’t she take someone with her

Why is waiting 1/2 hour for a PCR a big deal.

I lm not saying it’s easy, but it’s bollocks it’s not possible.

I guess if you’re trying to make excuses to not regularly visit then this is perfect excuse

Taliskerskye · 29/06/2021 19:10

@Notwavingbutdrowing3
She’s also allowed 2 visits per day.
Also her grandad is dead.

ThursdayLastWeek · 29/06/2021 19:11

I’m more cross about the G7 TBH.

Fucking love seeing this atmosphere at Wembley again.

Doyoumind · 29/06/2021 19:11

YABU. Holding managed large events like this, with testing and analysis by researchers, is what will ensure we have accurate data on the risk of such events that will allow things to open up again. But you know this as this thread has been done to death.

maddening · 29/06/2021 19:12

Her gm is a v different thing to healthy younger people at a match. That is about protecting v vulnerable people with a v stretched staff. I can go and meet friends, should I not do that as ops gm is vulnerable in a care home?

cyclingmad · 29/06/2021 19:12

There have been lots of trust events already, I think its great to see so many people at the stadium, it really is time to learn to live with it and get back to normal. I for one am counting down to days to no more masks or distancing.

bristolone · 29/06/2021 19:13

You know you can do a test without swabbing and upload that. Test can be done 48 hours before - doesn't have to be the day. It's all a joke.

QuimKardashian · 29/06/2021 19:13

Who won?

DadAManger · 29/06/2021 19:14

@ rooarsome and @ Littlecaf - same, not allowed to attend sports day or transition days. On Zoom for the new school welcome. And 1/20 kids off school again due to a positive test in the year. Hard for the kids and hard for us. Grandmother is the one that has really suffered in my opinion.

I don’t think we should cancel the football totally, it just seems amazing that we have this two-speed approach and to see 40,000 pissed fans and many that have had only one (sometimes no) vaccines (based on their age) jumping around and hugging without masks. The rules do say masks must be worn - no surprise that that gets ignored. Not foreseeable.

whynotwhatknot · 29/06/2021 19:14

i dont mind as theyve had tests but i do know that wimbledon ticket holders only had to do a laterel flow to get in and no follow up test so dont know why each even is different

Sparklingbrook · 29/06/2021 19:14

@QuimKardashian

Who won?
