40,000 Fans and No Masks

DadAManger · 29/06/2021 18:44

Watching the football. Yes, I like the football.

But WTF, no masks (literally not one mask) and hugging and kissing like it’s a San Francisco in 1980.

This pandemic is over then? My kids aren’t being sent home from school again, I can spend time sitting with my grandmother at home? I know I will be told ‘life has to go on as normal’. I think I have lost my mind - I just don’t understand anymore.

@LucilleTheVampireBat

You saw the pictures last night (and in the media this morning) and you honestly claim there was "socially distanced seating" amongst the 40,000 last night? Honestly?

How long do you honestly expect to keep this shite up for? Honestly?

Good point - not indefinitely for sure. Just for as long as I (and others) feel strongly about this point.

And for as long as the moronic challenge the good.

WeAreTheHeroes · 30/06/2021 13:11

@Thiscantreallybehappening - I've neither the time nor the inclination. We cannot go on with these measures indefinitely.

Thiscantreallybehappening · 30/06/2021 13:12

Sky News Breaking:

Nearly 2,000 COVID cases in Scotland have been linked to football fans watching Euro 2020 fixtures.

Of the 1,991 cases registered by Public Health Scotland (PHS), two-thirds said they had travelled to London to watch England V Scotland on 18 June.

A Total of 397 of these were fans at the game at Wembley Stadium.

A PHS report said 55 cases were linked to a fanzone in Glasgow, while 38 and 37 respectively were linked to Scotland v Croatia and Scotland v Czech Republic at Hampden Park.

TheRosesOfSuccess · 30/06/2021 13:13

And for as long as the moronic challenge the good.

That's a very interesting moral judgement...

Thiscantreallybehappening · 30/06/2021 13:21

@WeAreTheHeroes

I totally agree with you but I would love everyday life to be back to normal and I am concerned that the rise in cases is going to lead to a variant and derail another school year. I really want my DC to have a normal academic year from September.

I know we need to think about money, economy etc and these sporting fixtures are important in lots of ways. However, it won't look like such a good idea if we have another very difficult Autumn/Winter with schools, non essential shops etc having to close again.

I would just like the Government to have done the test events in a slightly more restricted, controlled way with post event tests having to be done by attendees. That way there would be more data and information. Maybe, care home, hospital, schools etc could be operated more normally too.

WonderfulSave · 30/06/2021 13:25

Actually it's a negative LFT required. And the proof that they are done is on trust. I think they have to have the code of the LFT but no one knows it's been done!

A family member attended Wembley.

Yet my child is isolating and being denied an education yet again. This needs to end NOW. LFTs for primary school children if necessary although they are hideous in themselves.

whynotwhatknot · 30/06/2021 13:32

no sd at wimbledon they were all put down the lower half all sitting next to each other-also no follow up tests

Swansridinghorses · 30/06/2021 13:33

The difference is if people at the football get ill they’ll have to self isolate etc. If anyone in GP practice has seen someone positive they’d have to isolate and not work but if they catch covid a large number of people in the practice may have to isolate/they may have to close the GP surgery temporarily and then nobody can be seen. I appreciate its not ideal for some things but that’s the reason behind telephone assessment first…

Thiscantreallybehappening · 30/06/2021 13:36

@Swansridinghorses

People going to these sporting events have jobs and quite probably could work in hospitals, GP surgeries, schools etc - if they get infected at the event and then go into work before they have symptoms, when they are diagnosed their close contact work colleagues will have to self isolate too!!!

Thiscantreallybehappening · 30/06/2021 13:38

surely GP surgery might have to temporarily close in that situation too.

tonystarksrighthand · 30/06/2021 13:46

@Aposterhasnoname

It's not - Royal Ascot guests didn't have to be supervised

tonystarksrighthand · 30/06/2021 13:47

@Thelm

I want to know why I am stuck in the house for ten days. Despite having had both jabs and a negative test.

When it seems like others can do what they want. I’m being hounded daily by track and trace. They won’t leave me alone.

We are either back to normal or we aren’t.

Why do you not just ignore it?

tonystarksrighthand · 30/06/2021 13:51

@User135644

Still can't believe this was allowed to go ahead. Why is football a priority right now over things like weddings?

Because the public are accepting this bollox.

People need to take a stand. Nothing will change with this pathetic complying.

You are stuck in for 10 days for a reason, either returned from an Amber country or q close contact, which is the same rules for everyone, including the people at the events, if any of them are a close contact they will also need to isolate.

maddening · 30/06/2021 14:14

Why don't you just ignore it*

I would not ignore it, someone a family friend knows came back from an Amber country and did ignore it, when track and trace did call them they were on a gold course, and t&t knew despite them saying they were home! They said they would meet them at their home, did and fined them £5k.

How did T&T know where they were? And how quickly did they get to their home?
LeSquigh · 30/06/2021 16:49

@GingerAndTheBiscuits @WeAreTheHeroes

Even if they were designated as such, they definitely were not. I have been to a group game and a second round game.

toocold54 · 30/06/2021 16:51

I don’t know what the actual rules are but I assume I’d lose my job if I was seen out when I was meant to be isolating.

AliceLivesHere · 30/06/2021 18:11

@Demelza82

Football fanaticism and culture is a disease in this country. England doing well in the Euros is the worst Possible outcome in a pandemic.
Yawn. Fill the mouth with this Biscuit
AliceLivesHere · 30/06/2021 18:15

@Doyoumind

Do the people on this thread (and all the other similar threads) not understand that in 3 weeks' time, as the plan stands, restrictions will be lifted? It's not as if we're bang in the middle of a total lockdown and some people are being allowed to mix in large crowds.

Restrictions are being lifted and these events are part of that. They involve adults. Keeping other measures in place until the school holidays means more children can carry on learning without disruption until the end if term and more adults can be fully vaccinated before we return to normal.

Actually I think some people are a bit thick and have forgotten that.
Whammyyammy · 30/06/2021 18:20

G7 summit garden party, Ascot, football, Wimbledon.....not a mask in sight. The only mugs wearing them are us plebs.

ineedaholidaynow · 30/06/2021 18:42

@Whammyyammy DH went to Ascot and had to wear a mask apart from in the hospitality box they were in or when outside

Seriously !! have you seen the news and how many children are having their learning disrupted?

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 30/06/2021 19:22

Then campaign to change the rules on self-isolation in schools rather than railing against rule relaxations elsewhere?

I have been, one of my DC has had a particularly bad experience and I have have been in touch with my MP numerous time, plus the Education Select Committee.
